XII The Faeries Secret (Glory's version)
I froze time earlier to explain my story, by putting my two hands together as if I was 'ready to clap''.
Luckily, all faeries could do that when we wanted to ... " stop time just for a little bit" so we could ponder our thoughts without others eavesdropping on us. And that was another hidden trait 'the big man upstairs' couldn't touch!
I twisted my head around, to exercise the muscle spasm in my neck. I received it earlier from carrying Jill, since that girl had sturdy hands as she clung on to me. Of course, she didn't know I was there, and that was my fault. But I just couldn't remain visible and fly with someone on my back ... that would be preposterous! Remaining quiet and keeping the siblings out of harm's way was my best bet.
The other faeries wanted to harm our visitors!
Not on my watch!
Since I was the 'chosen one', I will do as I please; even if it meant that I had to abandoned my home for it. It's bad enough to lose our fairy independence and be fooled by monsters who treat us like slaves when they feel like it!
Okay, maybe I feel different now; I don't have a clue how to take care of these brats, but there's something about them that told me that I shouldn't go on with the 'plan' to kill them.
I'm taking a big risk here, but it's what I believe in. The trip alone to Aurora's house was not in the itinerary, and know I will be scolded again for that.
So, therefore I'm now proud to be the 'chosen one'. The enlightened one didn't know who she just messed with!

The day before the Marquez siblings entered the land of Barrymore.

It was out of the ordinary to be called during Our Day of Freedom, which was celebrated in observance that we were no longer under the rulings of the ogres and the dwolls. But rest assured, I knew something odd was going to happen ... it's called a fluttering instinct!
Not for one second, did I believe the monsters living above us would leave us alone. It's a ploy I tell you! An actual lie!
But would 'the other faeries' listen to me? No!
I'm just some badass punk fairy that doesn't know better to most of my people.
However, some faithful friends sided with me like Aurora the Healer, Flo the talkative one and my faithful mare, Destiny, for they all knew the truth as well.
There wasn't anything such as freedom for my people: we must fight for what is rightfully ours!
Sigh!
Being an unconventional fairy isn't easy work!
Thus, that day wasn't a holiday for me. It was just a normal one where you could play mud ball.
But getting back to my story.
Ahem!
As I was saying, everyone in the land was required to come, including the wild unicorns, who only obeyed us faeries! Thus, it was an extremely important event, since we hardly brought our animals before the 'enlightened one'.
~~
There were about 50 faeries and more than a hundred of their beautiful stallions, who assembled in the grassy arena before the gray-haired pixie. She was known as the enlightened one, the wise elder, basically our ruler of the fairy world.
Hyacinth, kept blowing her precious seashell-like-horn for everyone to come before her, when I came in the picture. She always had that shell with her whenever she went; perhaps it was like her tool to whisk away the evil spirits.
Anyway, I was running late as usual, so I flew like crazy to join the meeting, but unbeknownst to me, I ran into the old hag herself as she turned around.
Oof!
A shriek of fright came before me, but I paid more attention to my own painful tush, since it hit the hard ground. Thus, I didn't pay attention to what or who broke my fall.
But then my question was suddenly answered as I turned around. Hyacinth's dark, cold eyes stared back at me. And at that moment I knew I was in deep trouble! Once again, I was her enemy, someone she loved to berate.
Honestly, she was just there, when I was about to land to join the assembly!
I believe she was just at the wrong place in the field, and my arrival was purely accidental! It's not my problem!
Well, I shouldn't have said those last words of mine, for it landed me into this tangled web of lies!
Let me tell you more about Hyacinth. Being the eldest fairy in the land, she had her perks when guiding us. Just like the purplish flower growing in the nearby gardens, her name explained it all. She was edgy, 'violet' tempered; meaning her face would turn that color when pestered. A common flaw of hers I assume.
Hardly anything could pass by Hyacinth, and due to her fusty attitude, she would eventually find out if you messed with her decisions. That's one thing I was afraid of. And that was why I would always look behind my back to see if she was following me in some odd formation.
I used to be able to outwit her at her own games. But lately, it's been the other way around.
It's not every day that I heard Hyacinth's bugle in the forest.
I was playing catch with the wild unicorns, for they loved to hang out with me. My dark hair was twisted in a bandanna for I was playing in the mud with them and didn't want my dark curls messed up. But as I was tossing the ball to one of the mares, one of the fairies by the name of Crescent, tapped me on the shoulder.
She warned me to get cleaned as we were supposed to be meeting our leader, but since I could not find a nearby lake, I could not wash myself or Destiny. So, I decided ... what's the harm in going with my dirty attire and smelly unicorn. We were going to be late for sure, and cleaning up would take up more time. So we left, but of course Crescent flew like a 'speedy roadrunner' that I couldn't catch up to. She was just a messenger fairy, nothing of importance. But Crescent was also an impatient one!
~~
And let me go back to where I left off.
Oh yes, the crash happened, where the old hag yelled at me. I endured Hyacinth's short lecture, but she reprimanded me to sit with her during the whole ceremony. She also didn't enjoy the fact that the mud residue got on her face. Thus, she made me sit next to Leon.
I couldn't help but secretly laugh, as I covered my mouth in shame. But her odd glare told me to put on my appropriate 'sincere' face and shush. I knew then she would begin her announcement at any time now since she wanted the crowd to remain silent.
With her loudest voice, Hyacinth spoke up through a shell- like amplifier that echoed around us that even our mares neighed to show their obedience to the enlightened one.
"My sisters, brothers and unicorns, we are gathered here for this meeting, because our boss in the upper realm has alerted me that we will soon have two visitors arriving soon. These two human teenagers have angered the ogres and dwolls; so now it's up to us to 'entertain' them. They will be coming to our part of the Abyss through a human hamster ball, but somehow those monsters up there are forcing us to be a part of this scheme of theirs. And you all know that I do not like the villainous ways of life Brutus and his clan do, but he will be 'watching' our every move! It is now our duty to get rid of them!"
She didn't have to say the exact words, I just knew what the plan was about. Those beasts upstairs don't know when to stop, do they? It's enough that they took our land years ago, but to take over us is 'out of this world'!
Turning to my side, Hyacinth looked like she was about to lose her 'violet' temper with her beady eyes and Cheshire grin; but calmed down at the last second.
"Glory, it was so nice for you to join us. Would you care to be our first volunteer?"
I kept nodding my head no, but I'm sure Hyacinth did not see it that way. At that time, I didn't have a clue what she meant, but knew I didn't want to be a volunteer for this escapade. But I was out of luck.
Ouch!
I had to say something though out of respect and the only think that came out of my mouth was an excuse for being dirty.
"I'm so sorry about my tardiness, Hyacinth. Please forgive me, but I was playing mud ball with the wild unicorns that I lost track of time, until Crescent told me about our gathering. I'll do anything to make it up to you my 'enlightened one', just don't make me the volunteer."
I should've stopped there because I noticed Crescent winked at Hyacinth ... indicating to me that there was some message that was relayed between them.
Damn, that Crescent, I knew something fishy was going on here. She was always a favorite of the elders.
"Hmm, perhaps, there is a way! Oh, yes ... you'd be a great guide!" The elderly woman looked at me as she placed her hand on her chin.
A what? I didn't have a clue what Hyacinth was getting at, but I knew this wasn't what I wanted.
The old pixie went toward me and touched my tattered fish stockings.
"Yes, we'd have to change your clothes."
I was alarmed, my face probably became the color of a bright tomato!
"And what is wrong with my clothes?" I questioned.
Hyacinth kept flying around me as if I were being scanned as a product.
"Not motherly look, we will be dealing with children this time."
And with a trickle of her silver wand my tattered clothes were replaced with what I'm wearing now.
Poof!
My long hair was now tied with a blue cloth in the style of a pony tail, I had a red dress on, along with brown leather boots on my feet.
"Ahh ... much better!" Was all the old hag could say to me, but was rather embarrassed.
Laughter was heard among the crowd, but Hyacinth's deep frown appeared before them. This certainly wasn't a time for giggles, but couldn't do anything to prevent this scene from happening.
My friend, Flo, took pity on me and tried to talk back to the enlightened one, but that was a bad move on her part. No one brave enough, has ever criticized the elder.
"And for that remark, Flo ...you can help our young visitors through the labyrinth and through the gates of Wrath".
Drats! I had to complain. I didn't want Flo to get in trouble for me.
"Look Hyacinth ..." I was about to finish my sentence when I was interrupted.
"Another outburst like that Glory, and I'll have to limit your powers." I then kept my mouth shut and nodded.
And that's what happened. Honest to Mother Nature! If I were lying may lightning strike me now!
Thunderbolt!
Okay, okay maybe I twisted the story a little bit.
Thunderbolt!
Fine! I'll tell the real story! Sheesh! The 'man in the mirror' is always there!
