Chapter 15
Lara's POV
"For StarClan's sake couldn't they afford some lights in here?!" I heard Hawkfrost complain on my right.
"StarClan? Is that Nicki Minaj's new song or something?" I heard Supah snort. I forgot for a second he didn't know shit about Warriors. My mind just automatically accepted the word StarClan.
"Let's split, I can tell by our echoes that this room isn't too small" I suggested. Supah nodded and already casually went ahead.
"Be careful." I hissed. Halfway through the room Supah turned around and looked at us.
"Are you sure Jerome's in here? This place seems pretty empty if you ask me." Just as he said those words a pair of big red eyes opened behind him and stared at him. The red light that came from it illuminated the rest of the creature, showing it's size and brown fur. It certainly wasn't a small villain.
Me and Hawkfrost stared at it, wide-eyed.
"The hell is wrong with you?"
"B-Behind you...." I said. Supah's face turned pale as he slowly turned his head around to see a big hairy monster, hungrily staring at him with open mouth, revealing big fangs. As soon as Supah saw him clearly he jumped and sprinted back to us. The villain who was most likely Jerome was now watching all three of us. His eyes were the same as KillerCanadian's. Pure red with a darker outline, pupils small and black. Sorrows told me that having them stare at you sends chills down your spine. Now I know what she meant. The rest of his body was what I assumed was some monsterous bacca. Big claws and fangs, brown fur, and he was the height of three people.
"Any battle plans? Now would be a nice time." I leaned to Hawkfrost, but keeping my eyes fixed on Jerome. Hawkfrost stood still, figuring out the best way to attack.
"On my sign, you go to his left, Supah you go to his right. When I attack him you do the same. Understood?"
"Understood." Me and Supah replied on the same time.
"Go." I ran as quickly as possible and waited in the darkness, waiting for Hawkfrost to attack. Jerome's head had already spun halfway to me but luckily Hawkfrost got its attention.
"Hey fluffy!" He shouted. Jerome looked at him and growled "I'm your opponent, not them!"
With that he sprinted forwards with a battle scream. Jerome got up on his feet and lifted his paw up to swipe towards Hawkfrost. Hawkfrost changed his direction slightly to the left, confusing Jerome. Then he leaped high and cut through its skin with his sword. Jerome growled in pain and tried to shake him off but Hawkfrost had always had a tight grip of him. Now's my turn.
I ran toward and jumped as high as I could when in the air I swung my sword forward, creating a deep wound.
With that we started a decent fighting strategy. Our attacks weren't near deadly but swift. Due to his big body, Jerome wasn't able to keep up with our fast moves and that was our priority.
At a certain point Hawkfrost leaped too high. He hurt Jerome pretty badly but came crashing to the ground. He yowled in pain and put his hands tightly around his ankle. But as if we wouldn't see anything he casually he attempted to stand up.
"Don't, you're hurt!" Supah ran to him.
"I'm fine... Get out of my way." Hawkfrost clenched his teeth in pain.
"No you're not! And I'm not letting you back into battle." Supah argued. Hawkfrost angrily looked away but kept still.
"Lara?" Supah looked at me "Can you keep Jerome distracted for a while?"
"Sure thing." I said. Yes I finally got to do heroic mocking speech.
"YO FISH FACE!" I said loudly and smirked. The monster Jerome's head slowly turned to me as he narrowed his eyes.
"Over here!" I yowled as I started running. Jerome snarled and hurled himself after me. I was a bit easy going at that point and because I was getting tired I slowed down a bit. Big mistake. To my surprise Jerome had sped up and was standing right above me. His paw swiped towards me and he pinned me against a wall.
I struggled and struggled but it was no use. He held me close to the wall and I just couldn't escape. When he saw that he had captured me smiled a little. Then he opened his mouth widely and I saw every single teeth. I remember how I was teasing my dog one day and she tried to bite me in the face, something she usually never does. It lasted less than a second but I still remember clearly to this day how the inside of a canine's mouth looks like. That has always been my little anatomy trick. I have the perfect reference kept in my memories. But what could've been the coincidences still scare me. Now I was facing a much larger creature and it's mouth were nearing my head, slowly. I could see every single tooth and fang. They were not sharp but by the size and probably strength of the jaw as well, I simply assumed that wasn't needed to damage its opponent badly. Salvia was dripping down it's chin and its breath was so bad I did my best to keep my vomit back. I knew what its intention was. Chomp my head off.
"Hey Jerome!" I heard Supah yowl. We both looked to our side to see Supah running towards "I'm doing you a favor by doing this!"
He was running fast and was only speeding up as he was coming closer and closer. At last, he paused for less than a second and then leaped high, raising his sword. He still didn't jump to the his head though, but right below it. I watched as his sword raked through the monster's throat. Everything seemed to be in slow motion that moment.
Then Jerome collapsed on his side, inhaled deeply. I fell as well but landed on my feet. His pupils were even more dilated and his claws scrapped the ground below us. The wound wasn't deep enough and it just left it suffering.
"Just kill it already, I can't watch this." I said. Supah gave me a quick nod and grabbed the handle of the sword with both of his hands. He lifted it up and with a well placed hit, widened the wound and killing the monster. Then it happened.
At first it was a breeze. Not a light one but not strong enough to be called wind either.
"What is going on?" Supah asked me confused. I shook my head, not knowing the answer as well. I looked at Hawkfrost who was sitting in the corner of the room. He also felt it and he was also puzzled. Suddenly, a white heavenly light erupted from the killing wound. The breeze became a strong wind and the force threw as back. As soon as I could, I looked up to see what seemed to be streak of white light filled with tiny sparkles and stars. I gasped as I saw Jerome. But not the real Jerome. Rather an angel form of him, being transparent white and having little wings. The only thing that I didn't expect was the fact that it was barely a foot big. Like a mini Jerome.
"The heck...." Supah narrowed his eyes. I couldn't have said it better myself, at that point. When Jerome looked down he saw us and waved, grinning. I was frozen in place, unable to do anything. The figure then got pulled up. All the white light and Jerome himself disappeared into a tiny, lonely star in the sky.
We all sat around the fire in silence as Sorrows was going through Jerome's notebook.
"Here's an interesting thing..."
"We are waiting for a decent theory, not a stupid fun fact." Hawkfrost rolled his eyes.
"Hawkfrost!" I scolded him. Sorrows cleared her throat.
"Jerome didn't just put his theories and sketches here. He also noted down important incidents,,take this for an example; Day 15, me and Jason trained hard for days to try and take Skybrine down. Tonight, on full moon we finally did it."
"Wait, Jason?" I asked confused. I knew Jerome knew Mitch before he was a villain but, Jason as well?
Sorrows nodded "I think I will find some more information in his notebook, but that's for later. As I was saying, day 20, we encountered Skybrine again today. We managed to get away but the part that confuses me is that I was sure we had killed him, he was dead, after all. If I get some more pieces of information I'll try to put a decent theory together..... One day."
She finished reading and looked up.
"If there was something with the white glow you described, Jerome would've written that down as well."
"Your point is...."
"Yes Supah, Icee is still alive."
"But I don't get it, how come we were able to kill Jerome but not Icee? What were we supposed to do?" More and more questions came out of Hawkfrost's mouth.
"Jerome told us to think bizarre and that's what I did. And I believe this theory makes sense." Sorrows took a pause and then continued "It's not in when, how or with what they are killed with, it's in who kills them."
Sorrows's theory got my attention "Explain."
"Who killed Icee?"
"Me, Hawkfrost and Olivia..." I said.
"Sure sure, but who gave her the final blow?"
"That was Olivia." I looked at Olivia.
"I bet Icee didn't even know the name of her killer. And who gave Jerome the final blow?"
"Supah. I see we're you're going but we know nothing about monster Jerome." I said.
"Don't we Lara?" I could tell by her voice that she was enjoying this. It was a right choice to make her the brain of the group "Who was the first and the only person to ever kick Mitch's ass?"
"That was Supah...as well...."
"Think, after that, KillerCanadian would want to be after Supah as well, but for one villain to be after two survivors, me and Jerome, he couldn't be after Supah as well. So it would make sense if he sent his first villain after Supah."
"I see, that makes a lot of sense." Hawkfrost said.
"So my theory is, the villain needs to be killed by the survivor they're after. The survivor can take others in battle with them, but in the end, that survivor must deliver the killing blow."
"I guess me and Lara are going to take down WitherMU and Skybrine then." Hawkfrost said as he high-fived me.
"I'll have to defeat KillerCanadian." Sorrows said and smiled.
"Does that mean..." Supah said.
The excitement of taking villains down stopped at that point as everybody felt sympathy for Supah.
"I can't kill Enderlox, he was my friend!" Ross said startled. Hawkfrost looked at me.
Oh he expects the everybody-are-friends-Lara to give an advice.
"You're doing them a favor by killing them. You'll set their spirits free with that, I'm sure none of them enjoys being a villain."
"I'll try.... I guess..." Supah muttered, kinda anxiously.
"So the plan is, everybody trains hard. If we encounter a villain, the person the villain is after steps ahead." Hawkfrost announced.
Then he stood up only to fall on his knees.
"S-shit." He groaned in pain.
"We need to get that treated." Sorrows kneeled down to him.
"Why don't you get some food or herbs? We're running out of everything..." Sorrows looked at us.
"All of us?" Olivia widened her eyes.
"You go, we'll be fine." Hawkfrost said.
"Come on, I'll lead the way." I nudged ahead and started walking and everybody followed me.
