Chapter 11
Sorrows' POV
"To block attacks you just turn the flat part of the sword towards the direction of the enemy."
"Like this?" Olivia copied Hawkfrost who was teaching her. I looked to my right and saw Lara and Supah throwing round piles of dry grass at some members of our team who were trying to block or dodge them
"What's that for?" I walked to them
"We can expect attacks like that from WitherMU, considering to Lara?" Supah explained.
"But much more painful." Lara added "Trust me, it's not a nice way to start your quest of surviving."
It seemed like nobody needed my help so I decided to go pick up some herbs.
"Sorrows!" I lifted my head up when I heard my name. "Sorrows!"
I stuffed the last pile of herbs in my bag "Coming!"
I ran to the direction of the voice which wasn't all that
"They sent me to look for you, it's pretty late, everybody are sleeping. " Bashey said. I looked up and narrowed my eyes so, trying to tell the time from what I could see of the sky.
"Why did you venture off so far? Y-you know I don't like going so deep into the forest, especially at this time." Night was always longer than the day here, but most part of the night was somewhat bright, making it less scary. But this was what we called midnight. Darkest part of the night, when the sky was pitch black. This is when most of us took a nap, and the night guards watched the place.
Shame we still had to stay up most of the night. I could really use some extra sleep. Maybe I will once all of this is over...
I followed Ross back to the camp. As soon as we got there he snuggled up with the rest of our crew and fell asleep in less than a minute. I wasn't all that sleepy.
The only two left awake were Hawkfrost and Jerome.
"Get some sleep Sorrows." Hawkfrost said, not looking at me but at the flames dancing on the fireplace. "You'll need it." I've never heard him so tired, so stressed. He was usually eager and full of energy, ready to battle, not worried.
"Is there something I don't know?"
"Full moon is tomorrow night." Jerome said "And you know what that means. "
"You mean, Skybrine and WitherMU are going to attack tomorrow?"
"I'm almost sure about it." Jerome said and sighed as he looked away.
"Well we trained hard for 3 days and 3 nights straight." I tried to give them some more courage "We can expect a good result."
"I know, I know, I just..." He ran his hair through his hair and inhaled deeply. He opened his icy blue eyes and breathed out again. "Do you ever get doubts, Sorrows?"
"Yes." He looked away again.
"I think we should tell Sorrows about her role in the battle." Jerome broke the silence.
"Oh that's right! Sorrows, come closer." I sat down next to Hawkfrost.
"You'll be hiding in the shadows and when somebody gets hurt, get to them as fast as possible and...uhm...heal them or something."
"I have some herbs that soothe pain, but not numb it completely."
"Alright, that's just what we need. How much of them do you have?"
"Well, I figured out we could use them in the battle so I got lots of them."
"Perfect." Hawkfrost said.
"But seriously though." Jerome said "Get some sleep."
"Alright alright." I said and walked to the others who were sleeping.
"Oh and Hawkfrost." Hawkfrost turned around. "Believe in your team, it might not be much but with a great leader like you, they'll do great tomorrow."
"Thank you, Sorrows." Hawkfrost smiled.
"You're welcome." I said "Good night."
"UP UP UP RISE AND SHINE." I rubbed my eyelid and groaned. Hawkfrost usually woke us up but never this early. I was one of the first ones to wake up.
"Well he sure looks better." I whispered to Jerome.
"I'm pretty sure he forced himself to, he's hiding his feelings behind." Jerome whispered back. "Well I guess a leader should never show fear to his team." He simply shrugged the topic off. After the many attempts to wake Lara up, everybody were awake and standing in a line.
"Now here's the thing. Jerome's theories tell us WitherMU and Skybrine will attack tonight." Hawkfrost was walking from left to right, speaking like some kind of a general "We have only 6 hours of day left so train as hard as you can. And when the battle comes, show them we're the one kicking asses here."
Everybody yowled in agreement.
"Now go out there, and give me the best you got!" With one last yowl, everybody went to do their training. I just stood there, unsure of what to do. Hawkfrost walked up to me.
"In my old world we'd used cobwebs to stop bleeding." He said.
"Cobwebs?"
"Sorry, I meant spider webs." He corrected himself and chuckled nervously. "Anyways, you should try looking for some of these perhaps."
"Hmmm, you're right." I said "Well, I guess I'll take a short trip to the forest then."
"Just be careful, you play an important role in this battle you know?" Hawkfrost said seriously. I nodded and went off.
As I was kneeled down, my hands searching through the undergrowth for spider webs and anything else that's useful I heard voices and footsteps. Barely audible but they sure didn't sound familiar. I his myself in the brambles, ignoring the fact that some throne tore through my skin and scratched me. Just as I thought, only a few minutes after Skybrine and WitherMU were standing right next to me.
They didn't see me and I keep quiet as a mouse. They had no awareness of my existence.
"So they trained themselves?"WitherMU said quietly.
"How pathetic!" Skybrine snorted.
"At least I hope they trained themselves well, I don't want a boring battle."
"I must admit though, all these months I've been living here I have not yet met survivors as though as them." Skybrine said, almost impressed.
My mind was racing. If I stayed here they would be caught off guard and vulnerable. But if I leave and give them a short warning before they attack, they'd have more time, little but still something. But in that case I would risk my own life which would lead to the worst possible scenario.
Think Sorrows, think!
Knowing what cocky villains like them are like, they'd probably make a long speech before getting to the battle part.
All out of sudden I jumped out of the brambles. I felt Skybrine and WitherMU turning their heads towards me, surprised but I kept on running. I stopped in front of Hawkfrost who had already opened his mouth to speak but I was first.
"They're here." Only a few seconds after that being spoken WitherMU and Skybrine stood on the edge of the clearing and the forest.
"It's nice to know you prepared ourselves for our visit." Skybrine spoke loud enough for everybody to hear him "Makes me feel warm in my heart."
"You think this is a joke?!" Supah growled.
"Joke? No,no. Rather a friendly visit to see how my soon-to-be-friends are doing."
"Well we trained ourselves to kick your fat gay asses." Olivia smirked.
"Kick our asses? That's silly I thought you were smart enough to knows we can't be defeated." WithetMU said.
"Listen here both of you." Hawkfrost spoke. He sounded serious, demanding. "You came here to have a battle and we trained to do so. So I say enough rambling and let's actually fight."
"I think that's your sign." Jerome whispered in my ear. I gave him a tiny nod and moved backwards. Nobody noticed me.
Skybrine narrowed his eyes. He was no longer mocking or sarcastic. He was serious now and his yellow eyes shone in the darkness. "Then let's do this."
