Ever was leaning on the second floor railing, watching Melanie finish clean up a spilled cup of coffee. Annie had locked him out of the room for no given reason. He had been out there for a little while. Watching as Melanie and Monsieur Fredrick rush out of the office. Fredrick ordering Melanie rather harshly to clean up the mess. Then disappearing back into his office. He watched the scene play out while he tried to figure out Annie's recent behaviour.
A door down the hall opened and Grim emerged, looking rather bleak. "Grim" Ever called out. Grim turned and shuffled over to Ever, resembling a zombie. "Yo" he said, leaning on the railing next to Ever. Looking at Grim up close, he noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and his face looked a bit flushed. "You okay man?" Ever asked. "Yeah, might be catching Malinda's sickness" Grim replied. He was about to interrogate Grim further when he was distracted by a door with a 'Employees Only' sign tacked onto it opened and Monsieur Fredrick came out. But he never left his office, Ever thought.
"Grim, you saw that the manager just left that room across the lobby, right?"
"Yeah" Grim responded, sounding completely uninterested. "He just went into his office a few minutes ago, but he didn't come out. Yet he came out from that Employees only room. Now that I say this, I'm thinking they're connected" Ever told him. "Uh-huh" Grim said, now looking more alive than he did when he came out of his room.
"Oh yeah, I need you to help me figure out what Annie's deal is" Ever said, changing the subject. "I can't, I'm busy" Grim said nonchalantly. Ever stared at him in shock as he turned away. "What...? But Grim she's like-
"I said I don't have time to deal with Annie's problems" Grim interrupted, not turning back as he continued toward his room. Ever went from shocked to appalled. Grim didn't DEAL with his friend's or their problems. He always cared and always tried to give good advice, even when the person didn't want it. Granted, sometimes Grim was a little to honest with his opinions and sometimes his advice wasn't much help. However unlike most people, he really did have your back no matter what.
Ever's Blood began to boil. He stormed over to Grim, while he was getting his key from his pocket. He grabbed Grims collar and slammed him into his room door. "What the fuck is wrong with you?! Since when do you 'deal' with your friends problems?" Grim didn't answer. he just stared at Ever coldly. "Look, I don't know what you're going through, but wait your turn for help. Annie was in line way before you" Ever said, dragging Grim by the collar to Annie's room. Ever knocked loudly on the door with his free hand. "Grim's here to see you" He called before any objections could be made. He then left Grim standing awkwardly in front of Annie's door.
A few minutes passed before Annie opened the door and let him inside. "What's up?" she said. Sh looked and sounded normal, but the way she looked at Grim said otherwise. Grim closed and locked the door behind him. "Neither of us is leaving this room until you tell me what your problem is" Grim said, leaning against the door and crossing his arms in front of his chest. He was in a hurry. After hearing what Ever told him by the railing, he needed to launch another investigation. He wanted to get this over quickly. Annie's feelings meant something, but her life wasn't the one in danger right now.
"I don't feel like talking right now"
"Well then, neither of us is leaving till you do"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you"
"Try me"
Annie sighed in defeat. "That maid is my problem"
"What's wrong with her?" Grim said. "She's tricking you Grim, and your falling for it". "What are you talking about?" Grim played dumb. "Ever since we got here yesterday, you've been drooling over her"
"I haven't, because there is nothing like that going on between us" Grim responded.
Annie made a growling sound in aggravation. "Damnit Grim! I've seen the way you've been looking at her, and its not your usual 'checking out a hot chick' look. I've also seen the way she looks at you, and it isn't the same as how you look at her." Grim didn't say anything, because Annie was right. Melanie had been leading him on, he had heard it himself earlier. Annie was also right about Grims feelings. Even now, knowing about Melanie's betrayal, his feelings hadn't changed.
"I already know Annie" he said softly. It was Annie's turn to be silent. She had expected him to argue and whine like a child, and he also didn't think he was aware of Melanie's true nature. "You don't need to worry, I'm taking care of it right now" Grim said as he turned around and unlocked the door. Before leaving he paused.
"This ends tonight" Grim murmured under his breathe, closing the door softly behind him.
