"Why do you keep looking around in the bushes?" Melanie inquires.
"Oh, I thought I heard something run through the bushes" Grim lied.
"You can barely hear anything in this storm" Melanie replied. As if on cue, there was a deep rumble of thunder. "So why'd you want to help me get cleaning stuff?" Melanie asked as they walked to the storage shed behind the main building.
"As a gentleman, I couldn't let you come out into this storm alone" Grim said.
'Gentleman, right...' Melanie thought to herself as they arrived at the shed door. She spun around to face Grim, giving him an irritated look. "Cut the crap" she said coldly.
"What are you talking about?" Grim asked. "You know exactly what I'm talking about" Melanie sighed as she opened the shed door. "You lied to your friends in the dinning room earlier" She said as she stepped into the shelter of the shed.
Grim followed her into the darkness of the shed silently. When he shut the door, there was complete darkness.
"Melanie...?" Grim called into the pitch black. "Right here, just trying to get this flashlight" Melanie said from somewhere in front of Grim.
Getting a little uneasy, Grim reached out to Melanie for comfort. "There you are" he said, grabbing her. She yelped and tried to move away, but Grim grabbed her with his other hand.
"Chill, it's just me" Grim said. "I don't want to lose you while the lights are out"
Then, there was a click and a flash of light, and Grim could see. Melanie had the flashlight aiming upward from under her chin, revealing Melanie's face. She had wide eyes and a face as red as a tomato, like she was caught doing stealing cookie's from the cupboard.
"What's wrong? You scared or something?" Grim said with a grin.
"You're touching my..." Melanie trailed off.
"What's wrong with touching your shoulders?" Grim said, squeezing them a bit. Melanie yelped again, nearly dropping the flashlight.
Grim's smile disappeared. "Wait, these don't feel like shoulders..."
"T-that's because they aren't my s-shoulders" Melanie stammered.
Grim narrowed his eyes at her "Huh?"
Melanie slowly aimed the flashlight toward her chest, where Grim's hands were planted.
"OH SHIT" Grim yelled. he stumbled back, tripping over a box and falling flat on his butt. "I'm sorry, I couldn't see... I thought they were your shoulders..." Grim apologized, scratching the back of his head.
"Don't worry about it, it's fine" Melanie mumbled as she looked away, making it obvious that it was the opposite of fine. "We should find that cleaning stuff"
"Right" Grim said, getting up from the concrete floor. They walked through the stacks of cardboard boxes, old furniture and gardening tools until they reached the far wall. Melanie turned right and aimed the flashlight downward.
Sitting at her feet was a small plastic tub filled with an assortment of spray bottles and containers, which were filled with liquids of various colours. Leaning against the wall next to the tub was a mop and a broom.
"Get that tub, and the mop as well" Melanie ordered.
"No need to be so bossy" Grim muttered under his breathe. Tucking the mop under his arm, he picked up the tub with both hands and turns to Melanie. "Ready" He said.
Melanie turned around and lead the way back to the door, with Grim making annoying sighing sounds as he followed.
"So, why'd you lie to your friends at dinner?" Melanie asked without looking back at him.
'Nothing gets past this chick' Grim thought to himself as he sighed. "One of my friends went missing before dinner, so I didn't want to make anyone worry"
"I see" Melanie said, as if she didn't believe him. "So have you found her yet?"
"No, unfortunately" Grim replied softly. "Do you know where she might be?"
"Can't help you there, I just started working here a couple of days ago, so I don't really know my way around" Melanie explained. Grim didn't reply.
They walked in silence for a while, making Grim wonder how big the shed was. When they reached the door, Melanie turned to Grim, seeing the depressed expression on his face. "Don't be such a baby, its only been a few hours" she said with such a harsh tone, Grim nearly dropped the box he was carrying. "As a matter of fact, she's probably up in your room right now!"
Grim starred a her for a few seconds, then smiled. "Thanks for that"
"Don't mention it" Melanie said, smiling back.
"Oh, what we talked about in here has to stay in here, I don't want one of them knowing I lied" Grim said, remembering what Ever said at the table earlier that night.
"I see" Melanie said. She flashes back to the misunderstanding they had after they entered the shed. "Agreed" she said, crossing her arms across her chest defensively.
