Chapter Thiry-Eight: Hole In One

Luna's Pov

I was laying in bed on my side, just staring at the wall while playing with my necklace.

I was bored and don't really have anything else to do.

Suddenly I felt some soft lips on my cheek and I smiled.

"Hey bubba" I said while turning to face him.

"Hey sweetheart" Chase smiled as he laid down next to me.

"So, what were you doing in here?" Chase asked but I just shrugged while playing with his hair.

"Nothing much, there wasn't anything to do so I thought I'd just stay in my room and enjoy the peace and quiet" I said.

He smiled and nodded as he started caressing my cheek.

"You look beautiful" Chase whispered, making me giggle.

"You tell me that every day" I whispered back, making him chuckle.

"That's because it's always true, not matter what you always look beautiful every day" Chase said and I smiled.

I moved closer to him and pressed my lips onto his and he immediately kissed back.

He wrapped one arm around me and pulled me closer towards him.

I rested one hand on his chest as he deepened the kiss, making me moan.

"Pumpkin! Chase! Get down here I've got something to show everyone!" Dad yelled from downstairs.

Me and Chase pulled away and we both groaned in annoyance.

"Can always count on my dad or someone in this house to ruin our moment" I groaned.

Chase chuckled before pecking me on my lips one more time.

"Come on sweetheart, let's go see what he wants" Chase said as he got up from my bed.

I nodded as I got up from my bed and held hands with Chase the entire time.

Once we got downstairs we made our way to the living room where everyone else is and stood by them while still holding hands.

Dad was near something that was being covered by a white sheet.

"Hey, guys, check this out. I picked this up at auction today, and it only cost me a million dollars" Dad said with a smile.

"Wha--? For a sheet? Well, I guess I'd better start saving up if I'm gonna be a ghost for Halloween" Adam said.

"It's a painting, Adam, by a very famous artist named Von Schtopp" Dad said before pulling the white sheet off.

Soon it revealed a really weird and disturbing painting.

"Hm. I wish I would have been there to "Von Schtopp" you from buying it" Leo said and I nodded.

"What is it?" Adam asked as he narrowed his eyes at the painting.

"It's abstract art, Adam. It's whatever you think it is" Dad said.

"I think it's a crying woman" Bree said.

"I think it's a crying woman" Chase said.

"I think someone just blew a million bucks" Leo said.

"I think that's you crying when you realize that you wasted your money on a useless painting" I deadpanned.

The others laughed while dad glared at me.

Soon dad's phone rang as he took it out of his pocket.

"That's me. Davenport Industries. Hello? Uh-huh. Oh, boy. All right" Dad said as he was quick to hang up the phone.

"Looks like I've got to put out a fire at work" Dad said.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Betty from accounting got her head caught in the positron collider again" Dad said with a sigh.

"Ooh!" we all cringed.

"That's gonna be messy. Can you guys put that in the art vault for me?" Dad asked.

"Wait, you have an art vault?" Leo asked.

"When are you guys gonna learn? I have a everything" Dad smirked with a small chuckle.

"But whatever you do, do not touch the Davenportraits" Dad said.

"What in the name of hells is a Davenportrait?" I asked in annoyance but dad had left before he could answer my question.

We all went into the elevator to head down to the place dad told us to go.

And once we got there we were all shocked, scared and disturbed.

There were paintings of dad everywhere. Like for example, the Mona Lisa. Dad's face was on the painting.

Another one would be Leonardo da vinci.

Every painting had dad's face on it and it was fucking weird/creepy as hell.

"Am I screaming out loud or just inside my head?" Leo asked.

"Sometimes I really wonder how I can stand that man I call my father" I said while looking at the paintings in disgust.

"I'm just gonna say it. Davenport is one weird dude" Chase said and we were all quick to nod in agreement.

Adam walked over to an empty stand and we walked over to him.

"Ah. Voila. The Von Schto--" Adam started but stopped when he realized he was going to sneeze.

"Ew, gross, gross, gross...!" Bree said in disgust.

"Turn around! Not on me!" Leo said as he turned away.

I hid my face in Chase's shoulder as he wrapped his arms around me to protect me.

Adam then sneezed and turned back to us. All of our eyes widened in shock when we saw a hole in dad's painting.

"Holy shit!" I yelled.

"Adam, what did you do?" Chase asked.

"Oh, I think that sneeze accidentally triggered my heat vision" Adam said.

"Big D is going to freak out!" Leo said and I nodded, "yeah, what are we going to do?" I asked.

"Let's not panic. This hole is barely noticeable" Chase said and we all nodded.

Suddenly Adam sneezed once again and this time he made an even bigger hole into the painting and our eyes once again widened in shock.

"That, however, is incredibly noticeable!" Chase yelled, clearly scared and worried like the rest of us.

"Adam, if you're going to destroy paintings, do it to those!" Leo yelled while pointing to dad's paintings and we all nodded.

"Yeah, nobody wants to see those" I said.

"Adam, I cannot believe you just destroyed Mr. Davenport's million-dollar painting!" Chase yelled.

"Mr. Davenport's gonna kill us when he sees what happened" Bree said.

"What are we going to do?" I asked.

"Ok, well, maybe he won't notice if we fill the room with things that look much more hideous" Adam suggested.

"More hideous? Have you seen the Daven Lisa?" Bree asked while pointing to the Daven Lisa.

We all looked at it and immediately cringed.

Soon we heard the elevator coming down and our eyes widened in fear when we knew it was dad.

We were quick to cover the painting up with the sheet and surround it to cover it up some more to avoid dad seeing it.

Dad walked in and looked at us weirdly.

"Hey. Big D. What are you doing back?" Leo asked.

"Uh, I forgot something. I forgot that I left my million-dollar painting in the hands of the four most destructive teenagers in the world!" Dad deadpanned.

"Please tell me it's okay?" Dad asked in worry.

"It's fine" Chase said.

"Looks great" Bree nodded.

"It's fine. Great" Adam said.

"Define ok" I said, making the others glare at me and Leo nudge my arm.

"I mean, yeah, it's looking really great dad" I said with a smile.

Dad sighed in relief and nodded as he tried walking twoards us but Leo quickly stopped him.

"Hey, wait. Hey. We've already seen this one, and it's boring" Leo said and we all nodded.

"I would like to know more about this beautiful" Leo said as he led dad to another painting of his.

"What are we looking at?" Leo asked dad who smiling at the painting they were looking at.

"Yeah, I remember posing for that one. You know, it took us hours to get the fruit positioned just right?" Dad said.

It was a fruit painting and let me tell you it was horrible.

"Well, you've just killed apples for me" Leo said and we all nodded.

"I was gonna be the big banana, but I thought that'd be a little too much" Dad said.

"Oh thank gosh" I sighed in relief, making the others laugh while dad glared at me.

Dad once again tried going to the painting but Chase stopped him.

"Don't do that!" Chase yelled.

"Why not?" Dad asked.

"Because. B-Because I... have an idea. You should pose for a Daven-Sculpture" Chase suggested and we all nodded.

"Daven-Sculpture! Yes! Chase, your brilliance is only matched by your good taste" Dad smiled.

"I'm gonna get to work on that right away. Oh! Get ready, guys, for six feet of stone-cold me!" Dad said in excitement while the rest of us looked at him confused.

"Six feet?" me and Bree asked.

"There's a pedestal!" Dad yelled as he walked back into the elevator.

In The Lab

We all went into to the lab once dad had left to come up with a plan to fix his painting before he comes back.

Chase walked in the lab with the destroyed painting.

"Okay, Mr. Davenport's gonna be at the sculptor's studio for a few more hours. They're only up to his knees" Chase said.

"How do you know that, bubba?" I asked.

"Because he's giving me a photo play-by-play" Chase said as he took out his phone and showed it to us, making all of us cringe.

"I can't unsee that" I said to Bree who nodded.

"Okay, there's got to be some way to fix this painting" Leo said.

"I know. We can make a replica. I can pull an image of the painting from my internal hard drive and project it onto a blank canvas. Then we can trace it and paint over it" Chase explained.

"That'll never work. We can't paint that fast" Leo said and we all nodded.

Soon we heard someone clearing their throat and looked to see that it was Bree.

"Hey, do you mind? We're trying to think over here" Adam said and I glared at him.

"I can paint that fast" Bree said with a smile.

"Good for you. Quit bragging and help us come up with a solution" Adam said.

I smacked him upside the head and glared at him, "you dumbass, she's saying that she can use her superspeed to paint really fast and make a new painting for dad" I explained.

"Oh" Adam said and we all rolled our eyes at him.

It took us a few minutes but we finally got the art supplies we needed for Bree to paint.

"All right, here we go" Chase said as he walked towards the blank canvas.

He pressed his fingers against his temple and started scanning the canvas and soon the image of the painting was on the canvas.

"All right, Bree, do your thing" Chase said as he moved out of the way.

Bree nodded and immediately started painting.

She used her superspeed and started painting left and right and up and down.

Chase wrapped one arm around my shoulder and I wrapped one arm around his waist.

'Please, please, please work' I thought.

Soon Bree finished and she smiled at us.

"Done and done. What do you think?" Bree asked.

We all walked over to the painting and smiled, it was perfect.

"It's perfect" Chase said.

"Can't tell the difference" Leo said.

"Still ugly" me and Adam said together.

"All right, well, we don't have much time. We'll go hang the replica. Adam, you take care of the original" Chase said.

"What? What am I supposed to do with it?" Adam asked.

"Hide it someplace that dad will never find it. Make it disappear!" I said and Chase nodded.

"Okay, but I'm gonna need a magic wand and a volunteer from the audience" Adam said as he looked at all of us before his eyes landed on Bree.

"How 'bout you, young lady?" Adam asked.

"Just go" Bree sighed, making Adam nod before he ran out of the lab.

Back In The Art Vault

We all quickly ran back into the art vault to put the new painting in it's place before dad gets here.

Chase quickly place the painting on the empty stand.

"There. Mr. Davenport will never know the difference" Chase said.

"Okay, let's be honest. If it's not a mirror or his bank account, he's not really paying attention" Leo said.

"Good point" I said.

Soon the elevator doors opened and we all turned around and saw dad coming out of the elevator.

"Hey! What are you doing down here?" Dad asked.

"What are we doing down here? Well we're...we're down here because your painting really spoke to us" Chase said and we all nodded.

"That's right and it said uh, 'I'm lonely. Come hang out with me'" Bree said.

"It's a lot like you that way" I said with a small smirk, making the others laugh.

Dad ignored my comment and walked up to the painting while we moved away from it.

"Did you guys really think I wouldn't notice?" Dad asked.

All of our eyes widened in fear, please don't tell me he found out what we did.

"What do you mean?" Chase asked.

"You are looking at it upside down" Dad said with a smile as he changed the painting to its right side.

We all sighed in relief and nodded.

'Thank goodness, he didn't find out' I thought in relief.

The Next Day

School had finished and the five of us had left school to get back home.

Once we got there we saw dad in the living room with the painting.

"There you are" Dad said.

"It was him!" the trio and Leo yelled while pointing to Chase.

"Just take the hit. We all know you're his favorite" Bree said as Adam pushed Chase to the front.

"Good news. I sold the painting" Dad said with a smile.

"What? Why?" I asked while placing my bag on the couch.

"Some wall street guy emailed me and said he'd buy it for a million more than I paid for it. Guy came by, looked it over, and he went straight to the bank" Dad explained with a smile.

'Why do I have a bad feeling?' I thought.

Soon the doorbell rang and dad smiled.

"Hear that? That, my friends, is a seven-figure ding dong" Dad said as he started singing a song about money while walking towards the door.

He opened the door and there were a bunch of people outside.

"Donald Davenport?" one of the men asked.

"Uh-huh" Dad nodded.

"I'm Special Agent Ryker. We got a call from a prospective buyer that you were attempting to sell forged art" Agent Ryker said as him and some other agents walked into the house.

My eyes widened and fear started crawling up my skin.

I held onto Chase's hand to calm myself down and luckily it worked.

"Forged art? What are you talking about?" Dad asked in confusion.

"I am talking about this" Agent Ryker said as he walked over to the painting.

"The buyer reported that this canvas still had the price tag attached and that it was purchased at the art depot..." Agent Ryker said as he grabbed the painting and turned it around to reveal a tag.

"On sale" Agent Ryker said.

My eyes widened in more fear, how the hell did we miss that?

"I don't understand" Dad said.

"It's when a store offers a product at a discount" Agent Ryker explained as he set the painting down.

"Mr. Davenport, selling fake art is a felony. You could be facing up to 20 years in prison" Agent Ryker said as he started handcuffing dad.

"20 years?!" I yelled, clearly scared.

"Well, at least you'll be out in time for Adam's graduation" Leo shrugged, making me and dad glare at him.

"Guess I'd better start studying" Adam said with a smile.

"I don't understand how this could have happened. That painting is an original. It's got an I.D chip embedded in the canvas. Scan it" Dad explained.

Agent Ryker scans the painting and it buzzes but in a really bad way.

"That sir, is the bad buzz. Which means no chip" Agent Ryker said.

"But there is a Chip in prison, and he is mean" Agent Ryker said and dad's eyes widened in fear.

"Wait. He is telling the truth. We painted the fake" Bree said.

"You what?!" Dad yelled.

"We accidentally ruined the real painting, so we forged a copy so you wouldn't find out" Chase said.

"You what?!" Dad yelled once again.

"Okay, we're going to have to act it out for him. Chase, you be the painting. I'll sneeze a hole in you" Adam said.

"Adam, one that's not gonna work and two, please shut the hell up" I said in annoyance.

"Look, I'm sure this is a big misunderstanding. Chase, go get the original and show it to the nice man with the big badge and the tiny little scanner" Dad told Chase.

"Sure" Chase nodded as he was about to walk away but stopped and looked at Adam.

"Wait. Adam, where is it?" Chase asked.

"Oh, I threw it in the dumpster at school" Adam said.

"What?" me and Chase asked in shock.

"You told me put it where he wouldn't look. Did he look there? No. You're welcome" Adam said.

Yeah ok, he's got a point there.

"Okay, maybe it's still there" Bree said as she turned to face Agent Ryker.

"If we get it back, will you let him go?" Bree asked.

"I suppose. If you produce the original, then his story checks out, but until then, I've got a warrant to search the place" Agent Ryker said.

"For what?" Dad asked.

"Any forged art. We'll have to check every room in the house. Don't worry, we'll be careful" Agent Ryker reassured dad.

Then all of a sudden the agents started trashing the house.

Throwing things onto the floor, some glass broke and some vases broke as well.

"Relax, Big D. You didn't break any laws...that they know of" Leo said and the trio nodded.

"Alright, listen here. Do whetever you want to the house, but you and your agents better stay away from my room" I told Agent Ryker.

"Little miss that's not how-" before he could finish I grabbed him by his collar and pulled him closer to my face.

"No, you listen here mister. You or your agents go in my room and trash it then you will know what it will feel like to get your ass kicked, by me. Do you understand?" I asked while glaring at him.

"Yes mam, absolutely mam" Agent Ryker nodded really fast.

"Good" I smirked before letting him go.

He walked away from me while I looked at the others who were staring at me in shock.

"What? I have my ways" I shrugged.

Dad snapped out of his shocked state and began talking.

"Look, have you thought about what happens when they find the lab and how to explain it? That would be bad!" Dad said.

"Hey, don't worry about this. I got it" Adam said as he walked over to Agent Ryker.

"Hey! Mr. Agent. We've got nothing to hide. But say we did, how would we go about doing that?" Adam asked.

We all glared at him while I grabbed his arm and dragged him back to where we all were.

"The three of you go find that painting" Dad said to the trio.

"Leo, pumpkin, you two stay here with me and help me distract these agents" Dad said.

Adam and Bree were quick to leave but Chase quickly pecked me on the lips.

"Hurry back" I said and he nodded.

"Of course" Chase said before leaving the house.

Me, dad and Leo walked over to Agent Ryker to distract him as best as we could.

"So...you're an art cop. Hope you don't plan on framing us" Leo joked with a smile, making Agent Ryker look at him weirdly.

"I'm sorry, this is my first brush with the law" Leo joked once again.

"Leo, stop it. Let these men do their jobs and canvas the area" Dad joked, making the both of them laugh.

"Please don't make me get the German shepherd" Agent Ryker said.

"Please do. Their jokes are beyond terrible" I begged, making dad and Leo glare at me.

A Few Hours Later

The agents were still looking around the house and the trio still haven't come back.

"Well, last room in the house and no forged art, so as soon as the kids get back with that original painting, I am scot-free" Dad said as he was getting unhandcuffed.

"You know, interestingly enough, I went to high school with a guy named Scott Free, and ironically, he went to jail" Dad said.

"Dad, please shut up" I said in annoyance.

"You talk a lot. You know who else talks a lot? People with something to hide" Agent Ryker said while glaring at dad.

"Well aren't you just Mr. Smarty Pants" I said in annoyance.

He glared at me but I glared back at him, with more anger and hate, making him look away.

"Well, then you should probably go find some of those. This has been nice" Dad said, trying to get them to leave.

One of the agents removed a painting from the wall and soon revealed the button that reveals the elevator.

'Oh shit' I thought nervously.

"What's that?" Agent Ryker asked while walking towards the button.

"That? That—That is a- That's a-- That's a doorbell" Dad quickly said.

"A doorbell?" Agent Ryker asked.

"Yeah" Dad nodded.

"Inside the house?" Agent Ryker asked.

"Mm-hmm, sure. Well, I mean I have the one that rings inside the house. This one rings outside so I can mess with the pizza guy when he comes. You know--" Dad explained as he started immitating the doorbell sound and laughed.

"I hate pizza" Dad said.

Agent Ryker sighed before pressing the button, making the elevator appear.

"You have a secret elevator?" Agent Ryker asked.

"Course I have a secret elevator. Who doesn't have a secret elevator? Right, Leo? Punpkin?" Dad asked.

Me and Leo smiled nervously and nodded.

"Right! We're—we're rich. We need to blow our money on something!" Leo said as him and dad started laughing a bit.

"What are you hiding, Davenport?" Agent Ryker asked.

"Nothing! Nothing! We're not hiding anything! Right, Leo? Pumpkin?" Dad asked.

"Right!" me and Leo yelled.

"Well, then, I guess you wouldn't mind if we take a look" Agent Ryker said and once again my eyes widened in fear.

"No, we don't mind at all. Right, Leo? Pumpkin?" Dad asked again.

"Will you stop saying that!" I yelled at him in annoyance.

"Let's go" Agent Ryker said as he started pushing us into the elevator as the other agents followed behind us.

Once we all entered the elevator the doors closed and we started going down.

While in the elevator a song started playing and we recognized that singing voice of dad and he was singing twinkle twinkle little star and let me tell you he sounded horrible.

"Is that you singing?" Leo asked.

"Yeah" Dad nods with a smile as he looks at all of us.

"It's new. I thought I'd spice things up a little bit. If you want a copy, I still have 3,000 CDs left" Dad said with a smile.

I sighed and placed my hand on his shoulder.

"Dad, I love you. I really do. But I think I can speak for everyone when I say, we're good" I said.

All the agents and Leo nodded in agreement while dads smile turned into a frown and he just nodded.

Soon the elevator stopped and the doors opened and we all stepped out into the art vault room.

"And this is my art vault" Dad said with a smile.

"So you're not a forger, but you have a secret room full of copied paintings" Agent Ryker said as the rest of the agents started looking around.

"These are originals" Dad defended.

"That I believe" Agent Ryker nodded.

"If you ask me, these paintings should hang themselves" Agent Ryker said as he walked away.

Me and Leo looked at each other and nodded before dad grabbed our arms and pulled us away so the agents wouldn't hear us.

"When are they gonna get here with that painting?" Dad asked me and Leo.

"We've been texting them, but Adam says they are playing putt-putt with Perry" I said and Leo nodded while dad looked at us weirdly.

"What does that mean?" Dad asked.

"We don't want to know" Leo said and I nodded.

"We have to distract these agents before they find the lab" Dad said.

"How are we going to do that?" I asked while crossing my arms.

"Don't worry, I'm on it" Leo said as he slowly walked up to Agent Ryker who made his way back over to us.

"Hey, wanna hear a joke?" Leo asked.

"No" Agent Ryker said.

"Twenty Questions?" Leo asked, again.

"No" Agent Ryker once again declined.

"A poem it is" Leo nodded with a smile and I sighed in annoyance.

"When the night turns into dawn, lights, shadows, a new day has begun" Leo said with a smile on his face.

Me and dad looked at him weirdly while Agent Ryker smiled and stopped him from continuing.

"Hey, I've got one for you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, Stop talking" Agent Ryker deadpanned.

I stifled a laugh as Leo's smile faded into a frown and Agent Ryker walked away from him.

"Well, since that's the last room in the house, I guess that means--" Dad started but was cut off.

"You've got another floor" Agent Ryker said and soon I was panicking once again.

"N-no I don't" Dad said.

"Then what was that unlabeled button on the elevator's control panel?" Agent Ryker asked.

"Uh...That would be a question for the elevator operator, and he is not here today. Right, Leo and pumpkin?" Dad asked.

"We're not going to jail with you" Leo deadpanned and I nodded.

"You're on your own" I said while crossing my arms at him.

"You either take us there, or I'll make you take us there" Agent Ryker said and dad started getting scared.

Before he could answer the elevator doors opened, revealing the trio coming in with the original painting.

"We have the painting!" Chase quickly said.

"Ha! They have the painting! I'm free! I'm free!" Dad yelled in happiness as he hugged Agent Ryker, who looked really uncomfortable and annoyed.

Dad realized what he was doing and was quick to let go.

"I mean, thank you for coming, officer" Dad said, going into slight serious mode.

"Yeah, this proves that Mr. Davenport is innocent" Bree said and we all nodded.

"Well, I'll be the judge of that, Miss" Agent Ryker said as he scanned the painting and this time it buzzed but in a good way.

"Kid's right. It checks out" Agent Ryker nodded and I sighed in relief.

"Sorry about the inconvenience, Mr. Davenport" Agent Ryker said to dad who smiled and nodded.

"Good luck with your singing career. You've, um... really got something" Agent Ryker said before him and the other agents entered the elevator to leave.

"My album's available online, so..." Dad said with a smile causing Leo to look at him.

"What's an album?" Leo asked but dad just rolled his eyes at him.

"That was close. Too close. The feds were just about to discover the lab" Dad said.

"We didn't mean for any of this to happen. Things just got out of hand" I said to dad.

"We're really sorry, Mr. Davenport" Bree said with a frown.

"Yeah. We promise we'll always tell you the truth" Chase said as he walked towards me and wrapped one arm around my waist.

"Yeah" Adam nodded as he walked up to dad and sighed.

"You're selfish, you're bossy, and I wish I didn't, but I love your voice" Adam suddeny said, making dad's eyes widened in shock while I giggled.

"Man, I'm so happy I got that off my chest" Adam sighed in relief, making me giggle even more.

Dad glared at him before snatching the painting from him, "give me that" Dad said in annoyance.

He then walked over to the empty stand and placed the painting on it.

"It's destroyed. Why are you putting it up?" Leo asked.

"So that every time you look at it, you'll remember that you owe me a million dollars" Dad said wtih a smile.

We all sighed in annoyance, "should've seen that coming" I whispered to Chase who nodded.

He placed a kiss on my temple, making me smile and lay my head on his shoulder.

Good thing dad didn't end up going to jail.

That would've been really bad.
