7. Daddy.
Just as Harry is about to enter the interview room, a guard waltzes in and announces a request from Harry's boss. Minutes later, he's watching heavy shackles being locked on to Louis' handcuffs and ankles, restricting him to the table and the floor. The guard walks over to him and holds out the keys. "Don't let him get these, alright?" He thanks the guard and tries to regain his confidence. Harry stuffs the keys into his pocket and straightens his clothes. The second the door clicks shut, Harry puts on a hard expression. Harry's shoes click off the linoleum, he clenches his teeth and carefully sits in the metal chair before La Reine, the folder grasped tightly in his hands.
"Kitten, what time is it?" Louis' voice rings out softly, his eyes still shut and head tilted back.
Harry's eye twitches at the nickname. He checks his watch. "It's nearly eight."
"Is it raining outside?" The Donna inquires, stretching slightly.
Harry's eyes drift to the clear skin of the mafia Donna's neck. "Uh," he watches Louis gulp. "Yeah, it is."
"Do you like the rain?" His tone was airy yet intimidating.
Harry opens and closes his mouth several times. "Well, I can't say I hate it."
"And, you can't say you love it either." Louis finally sits up, his eyes immediately trained on the agent's face. "That's exactly how I feel about this." His stiletto nails gesture between himself and Harry.
Harry stiffens, he would rather not talk about anything other than La Reine, even if he be in the equation as well. He knew where the man was planning on steering the conversation, and it ends with Harry being called into his boss' office and leaving the building with no job.
"Let's get to know each other," Harry suggests. "I'm Harry."
"You are aware I already know that, yes?" A hint of his French accent is audible.
Harry clears his throat, he's willing to do anything in his power to get a confession out of La Reine—as long as it means he'll be out of the room the moment after. "Your name is Louis."
For a split second, La Reine is caught off guard. His blue eyes waver between Harry's face and his hands clad in shiny rings. "Are we on first name basis?"
"Would you like to be?" Harry wants him to keep talking, taking up time and eventually, Harry will be called out of the room for not making any progress or La Reine will slip up which is less than likely.
"If you want answers, don't reply with questions." Louis tuts softly. "I'm smarter than you think, Agent."
"That's wrong." Harry tries to keep the conversation going. "I think you're very clever."
"Flattery won't get you far, Mr. Styles." The Donna chuckles softly. "How about we make a deal?"
The green-eyed man looks at the two-way mirror, his eyes begging Liam or the other agent for help, but none arrives. He sets his eyes on Louis, the latter with a small smirk on his pink lips. "Okay," Harry agrees. "What's the deal?"
"You unlock my cuffs," Louis lifts his arms, gesturing to the glimmering silver around his wrists, "and I do whatever you want." His gaze drifts to Harry's torso, his button up fitting him nicely.
"No." Is Harry's first reply. Then, he thinks it over.
La Reine was defenseless, though Harry is aware of his skill and manipulation. If anything went wrong, Harry had a gun on his belt and two other agents behind a sheet of glass. He takes one last look from Louis' wide eyes and parted lips to his delicate wrists, but something goes over Harry, and he stands his ground. "No."
"C'mon, daddy." Louis pouts. "Please?"
Harry chokes on his breath and blinks rapidly. His must be losing his mind, it seemed like the only logical explanation. Every moment Harry was in the same room as La Reine, it was just another hour on a rollercoaster.
Louis laughs and bites his lip. Watching the agent's cheeks flush. "Que dirais-tu d'un tour de magie?"
The small furrow in Harry's brow is enough for Louis to repeat the question.
"How about a magic trick?"
"Okay," Harry looks at him suspiciously.
Louis sits up with his shoulders perfectly straight and clasps his hands over the table. "I know that there are two agents behind that two-way mirror on my right." The blue-eyed man faces the reflective glass with his arms crossed. "Shaun Gerald, born April 4, grew up in the heart of Los Angeles. Currently not married but surely a player. Has hit on almost every agent in the department. He visited his mother last week at the Kingston Retirement home and brought her a bouquet of tulips because it is her favourite."
Harry's lips slightly part, as he listens with rapt attention.
"Liam Payne, from right here in my city. Born August 29, son of Judith Collingwood and Immanuel Payne. Attended Rosemont Middle School before graduating from Loyola High School." He fixes his hair in his reflection. "Mr. Payne went straight into starting his career, getting his bachelors degree in law. He graduated at the top of his class and now at the age of 31, he's one of the most dedicated agents in this department." Louis turns to Harry whose eyes are wide, a smirk on his lips. "Though, Mr. Payne was not one of the nicest students at Loyola, isn't that right?" He turns back to the glass. "In senior year, Mr. Payne and his friends met a new boy named Victor Caldwell." At that moment, the door of the room swings open right after its signature beep. Liam had rage pooling in his normal calm and kind brown eyes. His cheeks and neck red with fury and lips turned into a scowl. His abrupt appearance only fuelled La Reine further. "It was football tryouts and Mr. Payne was the captain, he had told Victor that he made the team, miraculously so. Mr. Payne and his friends came up with the great idea of tying a blindfold around Victor's eyes and pulling down his pants before pouring hot water on his body."
"Shut up." Liam clenches his fists.
"Everything was being streamed on every television in the school. Victor felt humiliated, and ran out that locker room with horrible burns."
That was when Liam lunges at Louis, but two arms hold him back. He recognizes the tattoos. "Harry, let go of me," he struggles in the other agent's grip. "Shut up." He hisses at La Reine.
The Mafia Donna only continues, his hands clasped on the metal table and icy blue eyes daring Liam to act out. "Victor committed suicide two days later by hanging himself in his bedroom."
Harry's grip flatters for a moment with the newfound information and Liam escapes. The man lets his temper get the better of him and wraps his hands around La Reine's neck, and squeezes. Harry watches in horror as his best friend, a man who he's known for years, choke the most wanted criminal in the world. La Reine is caught off guard and immediately pulls at Liam's wrists and scratches his stiletto nails into the latter's skin, drawing blood. Harry finally regains himself and charges, pushing Liam off La Reine. The agent crashes into the wall, and Harry holds him against it, his elbow just gracing La Reine's hair. He slams Liam against the wall, "calm the fuck down."
The man's face changes from anger to realization to regret. Liam chest is rising and falling rapidly, his breath fanning over Harry's cheeks.
"Do you realize what you just did?" Harry booms, and releases Liam, not before pushing the man against the wall once more. He takes Liam by the arm and forcefully pulls the man out of the room and into the observation room.
The other agent sits there, mouth agape and eyes wide. An eye witness to everything.
"Liam, what the fuck?" Harry interrogates and slams the door shut.
"I'm sorry." Liam's voice is exasperated. The man sits on a chair, burying his face in his hands. "Oh my god."
"Are you crazy?" Harry huffs and pulls at his hair. "If boss finds out about this—"
Those words change the air in the room, Liam stands and knocks his chair back. "He's not going to find out."
Harry shakes his head, "Liam,"
"Delete it." Liam faces the other agent who's just been observing everything. "Delete the footage."
"I—"
Liam surges forward, holding the agent by his collar and accidentally knocks over the man's cup of coffee. The hot liquid seeps into the buttons and little cracks of the panel. All three of them watch as the screens on the panel flash and blink with scenes of today before completely going black.
And at that exact moment, the power in the entire building goes out.
Harry recognizes the loud beep sounding through the room, it was the door being unlocked.
