CHAPTER ONE
The first time Derek Hale ever saw Celia Arias was when he had showed the truth of the Argent's to Scott, she was sitting all alone outside of the hospital, her skin was slightly pale and she had a lollipop in her mouth, he didn't speak to her, he didn't need to ask her why she was at the hospital, he could smell it on her, she was incredibly sick and for some reason, that made his heart thump in sadness.
And she was in the same spot now, right in front of the hospital, a lollipop in her mouth and headphones over her ears, he could hear Zombie by The Cranberries playing, Celia instinctively moved her head to the music, humming softly and Derek found that amusing, he also found it very unfortunate how bad she was in her surroundings, Derek was now standing right behind her, the stench of her sickness seeping into his nose and he didn't like it one bit.
Derek blew out a sigh and sat right beside her, the shift of his body snatched Celia's attention who slowly looked to the side, her eyes widened at the sight of Derek who simply stared at her, she knew who he was, she knew the accusations that were placed on him and the fact that he was right beside her made her freeze, with the cherry lollipop still in her mouth and her key chain that had a pink pepper spray attached to it, she lifted her hands and slipped her headphones, keeping it around her neck.
" Hi, Celia " Derek spoke, a gruffness to his voice, Celia froze, subtly shifting the pepper spray to her hands fully " I'm not Celia, my name is not Celia, my name is, uh — " Her eyes flickered around the front of the hospital and took notice of a bush of Ivy " Ivy! My name is Ivy, you got the wrong girl "
Derek arched a brow seeming amused " You can't lie which is sad but I don't care for that, I care for you right now " Celia scrunched her nose up and leaned back as she slipped her empty hand into her pocket, grabbing her pink taser " I'm sixteen " She stated the obvious with a hint of disgust.
Derek shook his head, a scoff of disgust escaping his lips " No— No! Look, there's this thing I can do, I can give you a bite that can — " Celia cut him by spraying her pepper spray in his eyes and tasing him again his chest, Derek fell off the bench in pain, placing his hand over his eyes rubbing the pepper spray away, the harsh ache against his chest began to evaporate.
Celia ignored the discomfort in her abdomen as she stood from the bench to quickly, it was one of the symptoms of her condition " Look, dude " Celia said holding her weapons out as Derek stood, his eyes were red as he rapidly blinked, Celia was confused, he shouldn't be standing, he should be on his knees, still groaning in pain like he was doing a few seconds ago but he seemed fine, as he healed miraculously.
" Just listen " Derek snapped dragging his index finger over his right eyelid, it was sensitive, a small ache to his eyes but it was slowly healing " Listen to how you want to bite me, yeah no thanks " She scoffed as she stepped back, and turned around, her hands gripping her weapons " I'm a werewolf! " He exclaimed urgently, Derek needed her to become his first Beta, Derek didn't know why, but he knew that Celia had what it took to become his first beta.
Celia froze and slowly turned around facing Derek, she held no fear, no utter surprise because she had a small inkling that werewolves indeed exist, she didn't know why, maybe it was that she overheard Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski jokingly talk about werewolves or maybe it was the stories her mom used to tell, she'd tell her these supernatural stories on creatures who howled at the moon, those who casted spell, her mother always spoke with so much passion as if she knew but as a child, Celia always brushed it off, those creatures don't exist but Derek was living proof, unknown to her, she was proof as well.
" Werewolf? " Celia said slowly keeping a tight grip on her weapons, Derek nodded and smirked " Yes, I'm an Alpha werewolf and if I bite someone, they can turn into one, healing any sickness they have " He noticed how her eyes widened, shinning a bit brighter " I want to bite you, I know you're sick, I can smell it on you, and it's bad isn't it? "
Celia tensed beginning to feel a small ache to her brain, lack of oxygen, she gnawed on her bottom lip staring at him " I can heal you, Celia, I can rid you from this pain you have, you don't have to come to hospitals anymore, you won't have to feel pain " His voice was filled with a certain softness that made Celia frown, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
" I — " She shook her head closing her eyes, she didn't know what to say, her heart raced against her chest, the loud thumps filling her ears " You can think about it — " Derek said softly and she snapped her eyes open, staring at her, he held a soft smile on his lips and Celia thought that he rarely did that; rarely smiled " I'm going to give you my number and where you can find me " he pulled out a piece of paper and a ballpoint pen from his leather jacket and wrote down his number and the address of the underground train.
" Think about it " Derek said extending his hand towards her, Celia's eyes flickers to his hand and signed, she pushed her taser into her pocket and grabbed the paper warily, she looked down at the paper, memorizing his number and address when she looked up Derek was gone.
Celia sighed folding the paper in half as her name was called " Celia! " Melissa McCall's voice slipped into her ears, the teenager spun around hurriedly pocketing the folded paper into her jacket, her fingers grazing over the taser, she smiled immediately at the sight of her favorite nurse of all time " Hi " Celia greeted her as Melissa finally arrived in front of her.
" Hi " Melissa softly laughed smiling " I was looking for you, your mom called me and asked if I could drop you off, she's got a bit tied up but she should be on her way home right now "
It wasn't a new occurrence that Melissa would drop her off at her house, Celia's mother, Esperanza was a lawyer, she had her own firm in Beacon Hills called Arias Law Firm, she focused on Immigration, Family and Juvenile Criminal Defense which meant that she was busy a lot, it didn't mess with Celia's feelings, her mom was always active and Esperanza was always there for her hospital things, her mother would never miss important days.
Celia smiled and nodded " Okay " her voice was soft but in her mind she was wondering where her cherry lollipop had gone, it disappeared just like her favorite pair of sunglasses and her favorite pair of earrings, she had told her mother this but she always waved it off with a nervous smile.
★
Celia couldn't sleep, it was twelve in the morning, almost one, and she couldn't sleep all because of Derek Hale, he circled her mind like a hallucination. Celia sat up in her bed, swinging her legs over and her eyes flickered to her phone that sat charging on the desk beside her, she glared at it for a few seconds before she sighed and reached for her phone, taking the charger out, she needed to do this, it could heal her, she'd be fine and she wouldn't need to hear her mother's sobs through the walls of the house.
Derek.
Okay.
I'll uh, get bitten
Now
If you have time obviously
No rush
Meet me at the address I gave you
That entails me sneaking out
I've never snuck out
Do you have a window?
Yes?
Jump out of it then, easy.
Celia stared at the messages with a blank look, she blinked and sighed standing up throwing her phone on the bed before she got ready, she pulled on a pair of grey sweats over her black biker shorts, a bra, a black sweater, socks and then running shoes. She turned back to her bed, grabbed her phone, pocketing it and faced the window, she dragged her teeth across her bottom lip and opened the window, leaning out of it looking down " Okay, you got this " She muttered underneath her breath, her room was still dark, lights being turned off but the moonlight above gave her a natural light, she swung her leg over the window,
finding the hole in the trellis, once she did, she processed to climb down smoothly.
Celia couldn't believe she was doing this, sneaking out of the house to get bitten by a werewolf, the entire idea is a bit laughable to her but it needed to be done, from the ages of six to recently, Celia would overheard her mother sob in her room, the walls were a bit thin so her cries were loud and obvious, sometimes — no every time Celia heard those heart wrenching sobs, her heart would rapidly beat against her chest, her eyes would tear up and guilt would seep into her veins, she hated hearing her moms cries because it was her fault, she was the one who was sick and her mom was suffering, it was even worse because Esperanza didn't have that many people to help her, her husband died when three years after Celia got sick and Esperanza worked; she was indeed glad that she had Melissa McCall, the nurse was kind enough to occasionally care for Celia like her own.
The underground subway station wasn't far from Celia's baby blue and white two story Victorian house, when she had gotten home from meeting Derek, she researched the address, looked at the map various of times, she even memorized it just incase, it was five blocks away, so it was easy to get to the subway station but by the time she for there, she felt a discomfort in her back and dizziness but she pushed through it, ignoring the feelings she felt, she grabbed her phone out of her pocket and used to the flashlight app to make sure she didn't fall to her death.
Her footsteps were soft as she walked, a hand on her abdomen as if her hand could heal her pain. She could feel her thumping heart in her ears, the entire subway station was empty, she saw spider webs in some corner which irked her, Celia hated spiders, the thought of them made a shiver run down her spine.
" I hate spiders " she muttered.
Her heart pounded in her ears as she noticed light reflecting on a concrete wall, she noted a shadowy figure of a man, Celia gripped her hand tighter as she walked closer and she turned the corner, her presence altering the two people in front of her, Derek stood by the door of the empty subway, wearing all black as if he was ready to attend his own funeral and just a few inches away from Celia, Isaac Lahey turned around, his eyes, like Celia, widened in surprise, both were shocked to see one another.
" What took you so long? " Derek spoke up stepping out of the subway, Celia looked away from Isaac and to him " Severe Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia " Celia said turning off the flashlight app, she could feel a prick against her skin and her eyes slowly flickered to Isaac who immediately looked away, a tiny blush on his cheekbones.
" I assume you both know each other? "
" Oh definitely— " Sarcasm left Celia's mouth as she stepped forward, standing right beside Isaac, her lip curved up in a teasing way " all the losers know one another " She shrugged and Isaac couldn't help but laugh, she always did this, everything Celia saw Isaac or even Erica Reyes and Vernon Boyd, she'd greet them all with a hello fellow loser; she never meant anything bad about it, they all knew that.
Derek furrowed his brows at them, finding the both of them a bit weird but he waved it off, his fangs aching to create his betas, " Is— Is she getting, uh, bitten too? " Isaac asked awkwardly, his eyes flickering between Derek and Celia.
" I normally don't rush things but can we do this quickly, I can feel my lack of oxygen being delivered to my brain " Celia sent a shy smile to Derek and it made sense to Isaac on why she was getting bitten. Beacon Hills was a small town which meant everyone knew that Celia Arias has been sick ever since she was six, in and out of hospitals, the bite would heal her.
Derek rolled his lips " The bite may not work, sometimes it doesn't work " He warned her.
Celia shrugged her shoulder, slipping her phone into her sweater pocket, " you only live once " her lips quirked up softly thinking about her father, he always told her that you live once, that you always have to try something even if it may not work and if this bite would not only heal her but her mom's suffering, she'd try.
Derek hummed though he saw a hint of fear in her eyes, so he tried to distract her, Celia was a few feet away from him so he walked forward until he was at arms length, the fear in her eyes expanding until they drowned her brown eyes " Is that a spider? " He asked furrowing his brows looking behind her, Celia's eyes widened and she spun around " Where— Ow! " pain filled her bones as Derek bit her on her forearm.
Isaac's eyes widened as Celia fell to her knees, her hands touching the concrete floor, her eyes closing in pain, she breathed in sharply as Derek watched her with calculating eyes, he could smell her sickness fading away which made his lips quirk up loving his success. Celia could feel the change within her, something was thumping within her veins, a magical change, she felt good, powerful and most of all she felt healthy.
Isaac shifted nervously as Derek crouched in front of Celia moving her brown strands away from her face " Celia " She looked up and Derek gasped in utter amazement, her eyes weren't amber yellow nor were they her normal brown but violet, she had violet eyes and her fangs were sharper than any fangs he had ever seen. He had never seen anything like it before but it did seem familiar.
" Breathe " He ordered " You need to calm down, finding something that will make you relax "
Celia forced herself to close her eyes, the face of her mom and dad filling her veins, she could feel her fangs disappear and when she snapped her eyes open, her violet eyes were replaced with her normal brown eyes " Good job " Derek praised standing up, his eyes falling on Isaac who was both nervous and ready to get bitten.
Celia shakingly stood up as Derek moved past her and bit Isaac on the right side of his stomach, near his ribs, Isaac groaned out in pain falling to his knees, she turned around, her brows furrowing in slight worry at the sight of Isaac, he took sharp deep breaths, relax and calming himself, Isaac looked up, his eyes amber yellow, his fangs elongated, hair on his skin, Celia leaned toward Derek " I don't have hair on my skin right? " She whispered towards him, Derek looked at her blankly and she arched her brow wanting an answer, Derek sighed and shook his head making Celia sigh in relief.
Isaac's werewolf features faded and he shakingly stood up taking deep breaths " What— what do we do now? " He asked his hand grazing over his covered stomach, he could feel the bite slowly heal, his eyes flickering between Celia ( who held the same question ) and Derek.
" I'm going to teach you a couple of simple things, how to flick your claws out, show your fangs, and tell you about what it means to be a pack, and then you both can go home, " Derek said, his voice was gruff, no ounce of reassurance in his voice.
" What does it mean to be a pack? " Isaac asked.
" Family— " Derek said " a pack means family, it means you stick together no matter what, so the two of you? You're now sister and brother, you're friends, always remember that "
Isaac and Celia shared a look, they both didn't need to say anything but the two knew that they would follow Derek's advice on the family apart, they would stick to one another no matter what.
After, the three of them spent half an hour together learning simple werewolf stuff, it would've been cut shorter but Isaac couldn't flick his claws out and when he did he almost scratched Derek which made Celia laugh, her bones shaking.
It was 2:30 when Celia got back home, she climbed up her trellis with ease, no struggle like before and got into her room easily but she froze when the lights of her turned off, her eyes widened, her body still facing her window " Celia Marisol Inez Itzel Josefina Arias! Son las dos de la puta mañana! A Donde estabas " Esperanza yelled. It's Two In The Fucking Morning. Where have you been?
Celia cringed at her full name, pressing her lips together as she turned around, her mother was angry, her lips were pressed together in anger, her arms crossed over her chest, her right foot tapping the floor impatiently " Mamá! — " She smiled innocently but her mother clicked her tongue walking forward " Don't Mamá me, where have you been, oh my god, are you okay " Esperanza placed the back of her hand against her forehead and she flinched back in shock, feeling the Saywa magic slam into her veins.
" What did you do? " Esperanza muttered with fear and horror, Celia furrowed her brows, the wind hitting her back from the open window, she flinched when Esperanza grabbed her shoulder, a hint of urgency " What did you do, Celia? You, you have your magic back " she whispered the last part but Celia heard it light as day.
" Magic? What are you talking about? " Celia asked, genuine confusion stepping into her voice, Esperanza released her daughter's shoulder and stepped back, her teeth gnawing on her bottom lip in worry " What did you do? Just know? I need the truth, Celia "
She didn't like this — Celia didn't like this at all, her mom was acting different, weird.
" You're not gonna believe me " Celia said, her index finger tapping her thumb nervously, an act she did whenever she felt nervous, Esperanza laughed softly " Try me, Celia "
Celia licked her lips and swallowed her nervousness getting the courage to tell her mom the truth " I got bitten " she paused " by a werewolf which makes me one too but! I did it for a good reason! He told me it would heal me and it did, I'm good Mamá! I feel good! — " a bright smile stained her lips, it was so bright that her cheekbones began to hurt " you didn't have to cry anymore "
Esperanza's heart dropped, you don't have to cry anymore, it was obvious to Esperanza that Celia got bit for her, so she wouldn't suffer anymore, so she wouldn't sob and it made Esperanza heart bloom, her daughter always held the biggest heart and she blamed Matteo.
Esperanza ran her hand down her face and sat down on her daughter's comfortable bed, she dropped her face to her hands and Celia frowned, looking confused " What's wrong, Mamá? Aren't you happy I'm healed? " She was deeply confused, she didn't know why her mom was acting like it was the end of the world for her.
" Of course I am! " Esperanza exclaimed when she snapped her head up " I am, you have no idea how happy I am, I'm upset that it took a werewolf bite to heal you but my herbs never could — " Celia hummed, still confused, she ignored the vibration of her phone. Esperanza could still see the confusion on her daughter face so she patted the space beside her " Sit, I'm going to explain to you everything "
And Esperanza did, she told her daughter the truth in how she was raised, in a cult of dark witches and warlocks who did satanic rituals, sacrificed the people of Coyote Ridge, she explained how she was naive and manipulated to maim and murder, to kill certain people and how it took the death of her best friend, Josefina, to be shaken out of her brainwash, Esperanza left a couple things out on how she left like her possession and how she was at fault for the murder of her entire coven, by the end of everything, Celia was shocked, her brows furrowed, awe and confusion in her eyes.
" So, uh, I'm a witch and a werewolf? "
Esperanza nodded at her daughter " Yeah, after I left Coyote Ridge, I wanted nothing to do with magic so I stopped using it and when you were born, I locked your magic away but because you were bitten, it's back and I need to teach you everything about Saywa magic, above every piece of magic that you will learn " Esperanza was determined to teach her daughter the good side of magic, the good parts.
Celia kissed her teeth " But you said you stopped using magic " She pointed out, not understanding how her mom was going to teach you, Esperanza's lips twitched as she looked at her daughter, standing up from the bed " Magic thumps in our veins, forever, that is something I have always lived with and over the course of years, I have met good witches that taught me things, they even taught me how to use Supay Kawsay or Demon's Breath as it's called in English, in a good way, surprisingly . "
Celia accused her nose " Demon's Breath? That, uh, that sounds nice " Esperanza laughed at her sarcastic and gestured her head to the door "Come on, I'll teach you a couple of things now and more tomorrow " Celia stared at her mother for a few seconds before she stood, a small smile forming on her lips but deep down she wanted to know more about Coyote Ridge.
