Chapter Twenty Two
06.18, Christmas morning, Sandringham Estate, Scotland
The Queen marched towards the dining room, which had been occupied by her family every Christmas for breakfast. A smile was stretched upon her face as she rekindled her thoughts about the phonecall she had a couple of hours before. She knew a secret everyone around the table were dying to know. Another great grandchild, at least some light at the end of the last few dark months. She couldn't wait to hold him in her arms.
She was so delighted for her grandson, she knew how marvellous Harry would be as a father. As she seated herself at the head of the table, she waited patiently until she knew William's cellphone would ring.
"You seem very cheerful, mother." The Prince of Wales stated, happy that even though it was the first time without the Duke of Edinbrough on Christmas morning, his mother could smile.
"Well, it is Christmas morning." Elizabeth stated, nodding her head at one of the butlers filling her cup of tea.
"Are you coming to London with us today or will you sta-" Eugenie's voice was cut off by a classic iPhone ringtone.
William's eyebrows raised as he noticed the caller ID, "It's Harry."
"It's the first time he's home on Christmas morning, one would think they would sleep in." Camilla chuckled, not noticing the glint in her mother in law's eyes.
"That's odd." William mumbled, making a quick eye contact with his wife as though they were thinking the same thing. They knew a certain blonde would lose her mind if she gave birth on Christmas itself. She couldn't be in labour just yet.
"Harry?" William spoke, listening to the tired, yet enthusiastic voice of his brother.
"Yes! Hello!" The Duke of Clarence and Avondale spoke, "How is everyone?"
"Everybody's doing well here... How are you?" The Duke of Cambridge spoke, with a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"Evee and I are doing marvellous. We just want to wish everybody a happy Christmas. Can you put us on speaker?" Harry answered, almost blurting out everything at once.
"Evee's there?" William questioned and in the meantime putting her on speaker. "You're on speaker now."
"Of course I am, where else would I be?" The blonde giggled, trying to hold back laughter. "Happy Christmas everybody!"
The whole room seemed to chant a happy Christmas back as Catherine looked a little suspicious. She knew the blonde way too well. It had been three months since she heard Evee being this cheerful. There was no way she was still pregnant, else she would grunt her way through the phone, mumbling and whining about the fact that she was still the size of an elephant.
Waiting for everyone to be silent, William could hear some background noises through the phone. "Where are you guys?"
"In London, where else?" Harry piped up.
"I know that you're in London." The Duke of Cambridge spoke, nearly rolling his eyes at his brother.
There was a few moments of silence at the other side of the line and William was quite certain he heard Evee tell Harry to go ahead and say it. Catherine's eyes widened as she now knew for certain. Her sister in law had actually given birth. Even before the words were out of Harry's mouth, she let out a little squeal.
"Well, we have some news for everybody. We actually became parents last night."
The room immediately was deafened by shouting and people talking over one another. They kept asking what the gender was, what the baby's name was and how Evee was doing. Catherine could hear the couple on the telephone laughing about their reactions and when they finally silenced, Evee spoke, "We're all doing remarkably well."
"And we as in..." Charles spoke, a grinning face upon his features.
"We as in, me, Evee and Harry, your son..." The blonde spoke. "And who else... You tell them, Harry."
"And, your new grandson." The prince spoke with a grin.
"A boy?!" George had a terrible morning attitude but ears peaked at the sound of his uncle speaking the words he'd been longing to hear.
"Yes, Georgie, a boy." Harry grinned. "You have a little cousin."
Catherine looked at her son with a big smile, she knew that Evee and Harry were expecting a boy but she hadn't told George yet, she wanted to see the big smile upon his face when the baby was actually born. "When can we go see him, mummy? I want to go see him! Now!"
"We'll fly home as soon as you've been a good boy in church later on." Catherine spoke, looking at her son. "And after you finish that sandwich." She pointed at the bread in front of him.
"What's his name?!" Harry and Evee heard a female voice shout through the phone, they could only assume that it was Beatrice.
"Samuel." Harry smiled, speaking as he held his phone in his hands and looking at his son laying in his wife's arms "Samuel Philip William Alexander."
"Wait... my name is in there!" William spoke astonishingly, pointing to his chest. "And grandpa's as well!"
"It's a very beautiful name." Charles spoke, a glow of happiness in his voice.
"You named your child after me?!" The duke of Cambridge spoke, still not believing it.
"Don't think too much of it, Will, you're only third." Evee joked, teasing her brother in law. "Do you like it?"
"I love it. I really do. Thank you guys. I'm so happy for you both." William spoke, still not believing the fact that his brother was now a father. "As soon as the church ceremony is done, we're flying in. We should be there around two pm. We'll visit this afternoon. God, I'm an uncle. I can't believe it."
"Yes. Yes, you are and that's alright." Harry spoke, "Evee and Samuel can go home tomorrow morning. We will do the press then, take your time."
"I can't wait to meet him." Charles spoke, "I will come as well. Who does he look like?"
"His father, of course." Evee grinned, staring at the sleeping baby. She couldn't help but kiss his forehead, noticing the light ginger undertones of his hair.
"And now, the most important question." William spoke up through the phone. "Is the baby unfortunate enough to have the Spencer hair?"
Harry rolled his eyes but couldn't help but grin, "He has very light hair, it's still a little early to tell but we're almost certain that he'll be a light ginger, yes."
"He looks a lot like Harry, a lot." Evee spoke through the phone, being a little proud. "He has the biggest blue eyes." She heard everyone in the room "Ooh!" and "Ah!" and couldn't help but smile once again.
"But he has Evee's nose and lips. And ears, thank god." Harry interrupted.
"Samuel can't wait to meet you all." The blonde replied to everybody. The whole room seemed to reply in happiness once again and the last thing she heard from the phonecall was William agreeing with his son when he annoyingly questioned if they just couldn't get to London immediately instead of going to that boring church ceremony.
Unfortunately for the family, it was obligated to do so but as soon as the British Royal family had finished the Christmas morning ceremony and greeted the crowd, not mentioning anything about the birth of a certain boy, they all flew back to London with much anticipation to meet their newest and youngest family member.
