Chapter Eleven
The reactions of the public and the media in regards towards the pregnancy were very wholehearted. Since their popularity (especially Evee's) had taken a little plunge since the wedding, it seemed as if the nation were very keen on welcoming a new member of the royal family. People could not wait to see Harry as a father, they genuinely wanted him to have that happiness. They also wanted to see Wiliam as an uncle and Catherine as an aunt.
In the week after the public announcement, Kensington Palace had received tons of well-wishing cards and even gifts from all over the world. From little teddybears to unisex baby clothes. Since Evee had not shopped or looked around for anything herself, it was all a little overwhelming. She honestly wanted to wait until they knew the gender of the baby before she went in full shopping modus.
"Where are we going?" Evee wondered, sitting comfortable in the passenger seat of the Audi. Her husband was driving next to her, eyes upon the road.
"It's a surprise, I already told you that." He smiled, giving her a small glance.
The public had not seen the couple yet since their pregnancy statement and the blonde would have liked it if Harry warned her if they were going somewhere out in the open. "Is it a public place?"
"I would have brought James or Bob if it was. Don't worry." He spoke carefully.
"Okay then." She nodded her head, "Is it a long drive?"
"Just another half an hour, it's not that far." He grinned, turning his eyes back on the road. Trying to change the subject, he questioned, "Are you excited for tomorrow?"
"To find out the gender?" Evee asked, subconsciously placing her left hand upon her small stomach. "Yes." She told herself for days that she just wanted it to be healthy and she did, she wasn't very religious but she prayed every day that things would be fine. As their next appointment with the gynaecologist came closer, she couldn't contain her own excitement.
She honestly couldn't understand how people didn't want to know the gender until they gave birth. It would drive her nuts. She always had a curious mind, it was a treat she had in common with her husband.
"Any bets?" Harry excitingly spoke once again.
"Depends." She raised her eyebrow. "What are we betting on?"
She honestly wouldn't mind taking his motorcycle away from him a few months after the birth. Now that they were expecting a baby, Evee's worries about her husband's safety were even more severe than they had ever been before.
She knew he loved that motorcycle but it wasn't the safest vehicle in the world.
"If I win this bet, you can't call me names during labour." He shrugged, ignoring her wide eyed gaze turning towards him.
"It's the only actual time I'm allowed to do that! That's so unfair."
"Fine, you can only call me two different curse names, not in front of the doctor or midwife." He grinned.
"Are you going to pick out the curse names yourself?" She raised her eyebrow at him, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"I just might." He looked at her with an expected glance.
"If I win you won't drive your motorcycle the upcoming six months after birth." She shot back at her husband.
"What? No! You know how much I love it." He shook his head fiercely.
"It's for safety measurements." Evee smirked triumphal.
"These bets suck, let's not place any bets on our child." Harry mumbled, turning the car into one familiar road. Evee had only been here one time before, to visit Harry's father during the summer. "It'll be a girl anyways." She heard him speak.
"It won't. It'll be a boy." Evee shook her head, "I can feel it in my areolas."
She grinned when she heard Harry burst out laughing next to her behind the steering wheel. "Fine then. I'll pick five names for a boy, you'll pick five for a girl. If it's a girl, I can pick the name. If it's a boy, you can pick the name."
"Wait, can we veto for the five names?" The Duchess questioned.
"Of course, we'll discuss the lists. God, this is all so exciting, isn't it?" Harry grinned, turning the car into the property.
Evee raised her eyebrows at their driving path, "It is, but please tell me why we are going to Windsor Castle? Isn't your father at Clarence?"
"He is, he is. But this isn't about my father, this is about us." He stopped the car in front of a big, beautiful, white house. "This is Frogmore cottage." Harry unbuckled his wife's seatbelt and looked at her with expectation. "This is your surprise. Our surprise, really. Come on." He unbuckled himself and stepped out of the car, closing the door behind him to wait for his wife.
"I don't... I don't really understand." Evee looked a little confused as she raised her right hand to cast a shadow over her eyes. The sun was beaming proudly in the air, glistering off the massive white walls.
"I've actually asked to renovate this place for us towards my grandmother somewhere in November. We need a place to really call a home, away from the busy streets of London. Nottingham Cottage is great but I want our kids to have a massive garden to play in, woods to wander around in so they can have tree houses and have tea parties. Away from all the press, just something to call a home, a real home." He grinned at the blonde, taking her hand as she stared at him. "This is just a one hour drive away from London, it's perfect. Let me show you inside. I really hope you like what I've done to this place."
She let him lead the way, willingly following her husband through the front entrance into a cosy hallway. There was a big wooden staircase on the right. The ceilings were high. Everything was royally big and sophisticated but homey at the same time. Evee felt at immediate ease. "This place is huge, Harry."
"Well it is bigger than Nottingham, of course. Frogmore House is for the visitors in the Summer. There are guided tours here, but only during the summer in August. We wouldn't be bothered by it." He informed, leading her through some sort of library. The dark mahoney wood was shining fervently in contrast to the crème coloured walls. "I renovated this so you can stack all your books in here."
Evee grinned, looking up at him, "This is amazing, sweety. I can tell that this will already be my favourite room."
"You've only seen two rooms so far, there's much more to come." He spoke with excitement, happy that his wife was already beaming next to him. He was honestly a little scared of how she would react, her leaving London, him decorating all of this behind her back.
Harry always knew that she wanted to raise their children outside of London, where she could grow her own vegetables and Bennett could run around freely. The kids could run into the house with their dirty boots and she would warn them not to, it really sounded like music to his ears.
"This is the living room." Evee grinned at the big, cosy looking crème coloured sofa. It looked comfortable. Her eyes were drawn to another two things in the room though. The royally looking white crib in the corner of the room and a wooden dog basket with a "B" carved into the back next to the fireplace.
"Bennett will love this." She grinned, pointing at the basket and then turning towards the baby crib. Her manicured hands gently rubbed the delicate wooden carvings. "This is beautiful."
"That was mine actually." Harry smiled, looking at Evee staring at the baby crib.
"It was?" Evee grinned, "I think avocado will love it."
"I think it still sounds very strange when you call our kid that." Harry chuckled, throwing an arm around her neck and gently kissing her temple.
"It's the size of an avocado now. The more I say it though, the more it sounds normal and kind of catchy."
"We're not naming our kid avocado." Harry pointed out, already warning his wife. "Veto."
Evee scrunched her nose, holding back laughter. "How many vetos can we use?"
"Infinite vetos." He answered, laughing.
"Can you imagine the headlines?" Evee laughed, holding her stomach.
"The Duke and Duchess of Clarence and Avondale have decided to name their child Avocado of Clarence and Avondale." Harry spoke in a low voice.
"Your grandmother would have a heart attack. I think my mother would have a heartattack." Evee pointed out, already seeing the horror on her mother's face inside her head. "No, I'm serious Harry-" She almost laughed at his widened glance at her, "About the house, silly, not about the name. I love this place." She mumbled, suddenly being hypnotized by the view outside. Miles and miles of grass and trees and in the distance a beautiful lake. "Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve you, you're absolutely a gift sent from heaven." Evee continued, "Thank you. I love you. This is more than I could ask for."
Harry smiled, unconsciously smelling the strawberry shampoo he had gotten used to over the past years. Her small stomach bumped into his stomach and he thought everything he wanted was actually right there in his arms.
He would kill to keep these two safe and sound.
And he was dead serious about that.
"Harry?" She mumbled into the crook of his shoulder.
"Yes?"
"We're putting a fence around the lake, right?" She would absolutely lose her mind if their kids would play outside and one of them fell in before they could actually swim.
"An eight foot concrete fence with massive bricks." He grinned.
She sighed, "Okay. Something tells me that'll be necessary for that spawn of us."
Author's note: next chapter you shall find out the gender, any bets?
