Point of View: Patton, Third Person
Timeline: Flashback (cont.)
Patton turned around just as Logan paused in the kitchen entry way, now dressed in the unicorn onesie and holding his wet clothes. "The most intriguing thing happened to me today," Logan said, walking past the door towards the closet, where they kept the washer and dryer.
"Really? What happened?" Patton asked, turning on the stove and starting to boil water for Logan's soup.
"A stranger saw me waiting at the bus stop, down in Orlando," Logan explained loudly as he started washing his wet clothes. He paused in his story once the wash started and walked into the kitchen, leaning on the doorway - arms crossed over his chest. "And this stranger saw me waiting in the storm and gave me his umbrella."
Patton turned, glancing at Logan over his shoulder. "Really?" he asked before turning back to the counter, grabbing some Ramen. Logan didn't really like Ramen, but Virgil did and it was the only soup they had at the moment.
"Indeed," Logan moved from his place in the doorway, sitting at the wooden kitchen table. "I tried to return it to him, but he wouldn't let me. He said that I could return it to him when I saw him again."
"How does he know that you will run into him again?" Patton banged the Ramen bag against the counter loudly, breaking the noodles so it'd be easier to eat. "Did he give you a way to contact him?"
"No, no he did not," Logan hummed, mentally reviewing the encounter over in his mind. "But he said that he knew me - he remembered me from UFL."
"Well you do tend to make quite the impression on people so that doesn't really surprise me," Patton answered nonchalantly as he poured the noodles into the pot of now boiling water. "You're incredible, Lo."
"That's very kind of you, Patton," Logan waved a hand at the door, at the black umbrella. "Something about him... I don't quite understand. Why would he do something like that for me? Why would he care?"
"Well," Patton paused, considering his response. "You might not know each other very well, but he's human. And just like everyone else, he's got a heart."
"But that doesn't explain why he did that for me. He didn't have to. Why did it bother him so much that I was out in the storm? It's... remarkable."
Patton glanced back at Logan, hesitantly. No, it wasn't like... no, Logan wasn't... he didn't actually like-like this mysterious stranger...
Did he?
Logan wasn't look at Patton, lost in his thoughts.
Why had this man made such an impact on Logan? Why was this stranger's act of kindness worth more than his? What was Patton doing wrong...?

Cause I know you guys are curious: I DO have plans to write the aftermath of EMPTY, if people want it. It might not be its own book (well... I mean maybe - I guess it'll depend on how well these books do. I honestly only intended this series to be a Duology) but it is a strong possiblity :3
