Midnight snack

Hc: L doesn't help with you trying to regulate your child's candy intake at all.

Deep in sleep, blissfully unaware you were. Your husband half asleep in some pretzel uncomfortable position by your side. Your bedroom door silently swung open and stealthy footsteps approached the bed.

"Daddy"

Silence.

L felt something grab his sleeve and shake it.

"Daddy!" A hushed voice said.

"Hmm-?" He replied, rolling over and rubbing his eyes.

"I can't sleep. I'm hungry"

L sat up, turning to see his 4 year old standing by his bedside in her alpthabet nightgown with her bunny slippers and teddy in her hands.

"Shhhh... you'll wake up mummy" he whispered.

"I wan snackies!" She whispered back.

L, quite liking the idea of snackies, got up and picked his little girl up, quietly leaving the room and looking over his shoulder one last time to make sure you were asleep.

"Not too much ok? You'll feel sick" he replied, heading down the stairs and turning the kitchen lights on.

He sat his daughter in the counter and opened the cupboard, getting a bag of marshmallows and two metal poking sticks. He used to do this when he was a kid at wammys, sneak out to the kitchen, light a candle and roast marshmallows over it. A tradition he'd passed onto his own child.

Grabbing the nearby candle on the shelf, he lit it and stuck some marshmallows on the end of the sticks. Handing one over to the small child. She was a smart kid, she knew of fire danger. And after inheriting her fathers sweet tooth, she knew how to roast a marshmallow just right.

"Be careful ok? And don't tell mummy. We have to be quiet" L said.

The girl giggled and nodded, she liked the nights where she and her dad snuck around like this. It was a thrill, she got sweets out of it and it was fun to have this big secret with her dad who she loved so much. L loved it too, passing the few good parts of his childhood onto her, and just being able to be around her having daddy daughter time. He never thought he'd have his own children let alone be married. He was so scared of being a father when you told him you were pregnant 4 years ago, worried he'd end up like his own awful parents. But he pushed through it for you, and now he wouldn't have it any other way. He'd lay down his life for you and your daughter.

"It'll be hot remember, cool it down first and don't get your hands sticky this time" he said.

"Ok, I won't. It was yucky last time it got all over me" she replied.

Blowing on her marshmallows too cool them down, she decided on a good temperature before eating the sugary goop off the stick. Watching her smile as he ate his, L kept in mind to not give her too much. He wasn't as strict as you were with sugar, he knew that she had his sweet tooth for sure. But he didn't want her to end up with a not so great dental record like he had at her age.

"Daddy, more!"

She held out the empty stick, having L stick a few more marshmallows on the end for her to roast.

"When can I light the candles?" She asked.

"When you're older. Fire is dangerous" he replied.

"But it's so small"

"On a candle it is. Remember how big the bonfire was when we went to stay with uncle Matt?"

"Oh yeah! It was so big! And uncle Mello had those mini fire work sticks!"

Mini firework sticks? She meant sparklers. But I'm a way she was right they did look like mini fire works. The night in question was New Years with the rest of the wammys boys, now all young adults themselves. They loved L's kid. Near would share his toy collection, Matt would take her out on go cart rides and Mello always had some fun story to tell her. You always joked it was their turn to have kids since they loved yours so much but every time you were met with a 'Nah man, kids are cute but I don't wanna go through the toddler stage'.

Yes that stage was difficult, but worth it. Seeing your own child grow into the girl she is now and keep growing into he woman she will be is an amazing feeling.

As for feelings, right now you were cold. The coldness starting to wake you up. You rolled over to hug L and steal his body heat. But you were met with the cold sheet where he should be. You rubbed your eyes and sat up, opening them to see he wasn't next to you. For a moment you thought he just got up to get a drink or something, but then you heard giggling downstairs.

"What are those two up to now? Bloody troublemakers..." you chuckled.

Quietly getting up and heading downstairs, you overheard their conversation.

"I wanna see them again! I like Matt's go carts!"

"Maybe next holidays. Now be quiet or your mother will hear you..."

Too late for that L. Approaching the doorway you saw what they were doing. All these times you tell L not to let her have too much sugar and here he is, up way past her bedtime giving  her roasted marshmallows. You stood in the doorway, arms crossed and leaning against it.

"What have I told you two about midnight snacks?" You said.

They both jumped, turning to face you with an 'oh shit-' look in their eyes.

"Hey... sweetheart..." L awkwardly smiled.

"It was daddy's idea"

"Hey! You asked for them, way to throw your own father under the bus"

"L it's past her bedtime. And you know your dads a sugar addict and insomniac, unless it's an emergency, if it's past bedtime you don't listen to him" you said.

"Hey I'm her father, she can listen to me"

"I gave birth to her"

"I helped make her" L shot back.

"Wait! Daddy helped make me? How does that work?" Your daughter exclaimed in shock.

Both you and L stayed quiet for a moment, giving each other an awkward glance. She's much too young for the talk- think (y/n)...

"He read me the instructions" you said.

L started snickering at your reply, to which your daughter seemed confused.

"You read them didn't you L?" You playfully sneered.

"Yep- I read them-"
