I will never ever write or condone Lawlight. Please stop asking for it.

The ship is extremely abusive and was sparked by fujoshis fetishising gay relationships.

The three golden rules of shipping are:
1) no illegal age gaps
2) no psychological abuse
3) no physical abuse

Lawlight checks 2/3 of those boxes.

The idea that 'it's ok it's fictional' is so damaging to not only lgbt representation but people with relationship trauma themselves. Fiction does affect reality weather you like it or not and a ship like this being romanticised is harmful to young lgbt kids who are being told this is ok and people who experienced similar abuse actively trying to fight against it. As well as people in un-educated, not accepting of LGBT areas who desperately need good representation.

Both L and Light are in the wrong in this ship.

Light:
•Killed L through rem
•Punched him on multiple occasions
•Lies to him
•Manipulates him
•Disregard his feelings entirely when L admits he's depressed.

L:
•Kicked him on multiple occasions
•Lies to him
•Manipulated him
•Held him detained for months with no contact with the outside world (even if light wanted it, the fact L dragged it out simply because he doesn't like light and knew he was kira is bad)

All of those behaviours are not healthy at all, and make for a traumatic relationship. Even when Light lost his memories he was still abusive toward L (the fight scene)

The authors themselves have tried to deter people from shipping it by stating that L canonly hates light and light isn't interested in dating as a whole.

The relationship is meant to be read as two bitter rivals who are pretending to be friends to manipulate each other into revealing something and using each others intelligence to better their own cases.

In fact, most relationships in DN are toxic. Because it's a psychological crime show not a romance.

That isn't to say that you can't ship from a dark show, but even if the show is dark it's still so important to not romanticise abusive relationships just because it's gay. It just worsens so many sigmas we as humans are trying to break.

Now I know AUs exist but that's also a touchy subject. Because simply saying 'au where that never happened' is essentially sweeping the abuse under the rug and not acknowledging it properly.

I used to be indifferent on the whole AU thing, but after hearing from actual gay and bi men and abuse victims that doing that isn't helping and is still bad for representation and stigma I quickly changed my views.

I'm aware that some people project onto the ship since they've had an abusive relationship like it before, but I encouraged those to reach out to someone for help and find a safer, less damaging coping mechanism. For your own sake.

I honestly don't know what else to say, every time I try and explain why this ship is so bad and shouldn't be supported I get SOMOME yelling at me in the comments about how "it's not that deep". It is honey, it really is.

If we can't bad representation of lgbt and abuse to end all together, part of that is making it very clear what isn't ok, and calling that out. Of course cancelling Lawlight isn't going to solve all those representation problems instantly, but it's a good step in the right direction.

Cancelling a ship made and dominated by fujoshis is a good way to end the fujoshi problem too.

So let me say this one last time.

Do not ship Lawlight 'because it's gay'
That's fetishisation of mlm relationships and letting abuse within mlm relationships slide.

Do not ship Lawlight 'because the foot scene guys'
That scene is bible symbolism, and is meant to be read as sad. Even I, someone very against the ship can admit it came off a bit gay. But that's not an excuse.

Do not ship Lawlight 'because yagamane is toxic'
Lawlight is just as toxic. Light did everything he did to L to Misa too.

I understand people want gay representation. I do to. But this ship ain't it.

If you wanna ship L with a man. Matsuda, Aiber, the rest of the taskforce all exist and are much healthier.

If you wanna ship light with a man. Mikami, Aiber and even fucking Ryuk all exist. They're not too much better because light is a dick but it's much better than Lawlight that's for sure.

Also as L stans, why would you want him hurt??? Shipping him with someone that caused him harm and trauma and literal death doesn't seem like a very simpy thing to do man...

In conclusion: if you ship this, I can't stop you. But I highly encourage you to stop for more only your own reputation as shipping it comes off as a red flag for so many people, but the fandoms too. And most importantly for the lgbt community not being represented badly and all the abuse victims who had the same things happen to them.

If you absolutely can't let go of it then,,, I dunno what to tell you man. But seriously think about it, at least don't ship it publicly by writing fic or sharing fanart or something like that.

Don't ask for Lawlight from me. I will never write it. I will never condone it.

Plus, we all know L belongs to (y/n) and Light is only gay for himself.
