A/n: I just got two ferrets (called noodle and fruitloop) and they have me an idea. Also I'm not sure if I'll post tomorrow bc it's my birthday. I'm getting so old omg.

Prompt: Misa begs L to let her have a pet in taskforce. He finally caves and she drags him to an animal shelter where he find one of the workers there rather interesting.

"YES! THANK YOU RYUZAKI YOU'RE THE BEST!"

"If it will shut you up, and you actually take care of it..."

Misa was already forcing her feet into her shoes, eager to get out and find a new best fluffy friend. It's not that L didn't like animals, it's the fact he wanted to keep taskforce clean and knowing Misa she'd pick the fluffiest animal she could find and it'd shed all over the place.

"Come on, take me to the shelter!" She said.

"What? Why can't you go alone?" He replied.

"I'll need someone to help carry all the pet gear, let's go"

He sighed, seeing that none of the taskforce was even here to help. All at an ICPO meeting. Looks like he had to.

"Fine..."

So Misa practically dragged him by the shirt sleeve out of taskforce and into the car, rambling about what animal to get and all the possible names she'd pick. Well... at least he'd get to see some cute cats...

The shelter wasn't too far away, and they had all kinds of rescued animals in need of a home. Pulling into the parking lot he could already hear dogs barking.

"I hope you can afford all this because I'm not paying" he said.

"Don't worry I'll be fine!" She replied, dragging him into the front doors.

Almost immediately one of the girls at the front desk looked up at them.

"Hey, welcome to animal haven. Got anything in mind?" She asked.

"Hmm... not really. Show me everything you have. I'm just glad this killjoy finally let me have a pet" Misa said.

"Hey, if it'll shut you up. Also you haven't told light about any of this, what will he think?" L replied.

"It'll be fine! He loves me! Now about pets..."

The girl, who had Alyssa on her name tag, beckoned for them to follow.

"This way, we'll start with the dogs"

They followed her out the back doors and were met with a row of big play pens and kennels each with a dog running around inside, going crazy at the sight of a human.

They were categorised in three groups, field dogs who needed lots of space, couch dogs who could live in smaller apartments, and non-kid friendly ones. Alyssa took them to the couch dogs section.

"So, we have a greyhound, a Yorkie and a Pomeranian. They all do well in smaller places as long as you walk them daily and train them well" she explained.

L watched and waited as Misa sat in the pen and gave each of them hugs and ear scratches. He did have to admit, they were rather cute. But he didn't think a dog would go well in taskforce. But it was Misa's pet, not his decision. After playing with the dogs a bit, she got back up and out of the pen.

"They're adorable but I don't really think a dog would work in my situation" Misa said.

"Ok, well let's look at the cats next" Alyssa replied.

L followed them both to another building where there were several cat trees and cages along with a pen full of fluffy toys. Cats were chilling on all the cat tree platforms and some sleeping in their cages.

"Ok so, we have two available. The rest are all on hold or being adopted..." Alyssa began.

She picked up a sleepy tabby from a cat tree and handed it to Misa.

"She's about 2, very very friendly and calm. She can sleep all day if she wants. And this..."

She picked up a calico who wiggled around a bit and handed it to L, much to his surprise.

"He's very playful and a lot younger, about 6 months"

The calico pawed at his shirt and rubbed against him, it was tempting but he still didn't budge. He was adorable but would shed everywhere. He allowed the cat to purr against him as the girls talked, he wouldn't mind a cat. But again, it was Misa's pet.

"Hmmm, as much as I'd love a cat... the shedding I couldn't deal with" Misa said, putting the cat back in it's spot, as did L.

"Alright, I'll take you to the birds. Then the reptiles, then the small animals"

Each pet they saw, Misa wasn't sure about. They spent some time looking at birds and making them talk, then had some time letting snakes slither up their arms, until finally they were on their way to the last room. The small animals.

"Now I'm not an expert on these guys, I handle mainly the dogs and reptiles. So I'll hand you over to the girl in there who knows everything about all small animals we have. Bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and ferrets" Alyssa said.

She opened the doors and the room was full of tall cages with tunnels and running wheels, hides, little hammocks and lots of toys. In each fenced off section was a different type of animal.

"Hey (y/n), I'll hand these guys over to you. They've checked out all the other animals" Alyssa said.

"Sure, I'll take it from here"

When Alyssa left, L looked up to find a girl with (h/l) (h/c) hair and bright (e/c) eyes, holding a bunny walk up to them.

"Hi, first time with small animals?" You asked.

"Yeah, but they're so cute I'm bound to find someone here" Misa said.

L just starred at you, bunny in your arms as you talked. Unable to pull his eyes away, something about you drew him in. You turned to face him, catching him off guard.

"Yeah the bunnies tend to make people stare, they're such cute balls of fluff, anyway what type of house do you guys live in? " you said.

"Oh uh... apartment" L said.

"Ok that's fine, with a big enough cage and some free roam time every now and then it can still work" you said.

You started to show them the different types of animals and explain what they'd need. And for the first time all day L was actually focusing. Something about it being your voice made him want to listen. You let them in the pens, to play with the animals and scope out what they'd like.

"Aww look at him! He's so cuuttee!" Misa cooed at the Guinea pig she'd picked up.

Something told L she'd end up with the guinea pig...

"What about you? Looking for a pet?"

L turned to you, out of nowhere starting to feel butterflies.

"Uh... I shouldn't re-"

"Come on Ryuzaki! My pet and your pet will be best friends! Get one, I saw you looking at the bunnies" Misa said.

"One is enough Misa, the others don't even know you're getting this one! Light probably won't be happy with you"

"Nonsense! He's my boyfriend, if I get a fluffy baby that makes me the mother and him the father, he has to love it"

L gave her a 'are you sure' look, you snickered are the conversation and turned back to L.

"Here" you said, holding out the bunny you were holding.

He hesitantly took it, scanning it down as it's nose twitched and sniffed the air around him.

"Think about it, it is good for animals to have friends. Keeping different species in the same enclosure probably isn't a good idea but they're ok to roam together for a little while" you said.

The bunny was the most temping. And you were rather good at convincing him, the thought bounced around in his mind. Would he really cave and get the bunny?

"She's definitely gonna pick the guinea pig, what about you... gonna cave?" You asked.

"I dunno... what would I even have to do?" L asked.

"Well, they eat mainly vegetables and pellets made for them. They can be indoor pets if you have a big enough hutch, and maybe a fenced off area for them to roam. We have all the equipment in the adoption shop, and you'd have to come back here every few weeks for a month or two for mandatory check ups and then you're good to go. Of course hutches should be cleaned regularly and they need something soft to nest in but other than that they aren't the hardest pets to live with. And they're really cute" you explained.

A light went off in his mind when you said he'd have to come back for mandatory check ups... would that mean he'd get to talk to you again? Because for some reason he just couldn't take his eyes off you, couldn't help but listen to everything you said.

"Mandatory checkups?" He questioned.

"Yep, just to make sure everything is running smoothly. You'd come to out vet area, they'd be weighted and such to make sure they're healthy and adjusting to a new home well. I'm in charge of small animals so I'd be the one to check them up"

He thought for a moment. The bunny itself was tempting, soft, calm and cute. He had always wanted a pet as a kid, but Watari never let him. Now he was an adult and could do what he wanted... and if it meant having to come back and getting to see you...

Of course he'd actually take care of the bunny, but seeing you again was a major bonus.

"Alright, I so have to get this little guy! He's too cute!" Misa said, cuddling the Guinea pig.

"I thought you might pick him" you giggled.

"What about you Ryuzaki? Gonna get that fluffy baby?"

He thought again for a moment, but just couldn't resist.

"Yeah... yeah I will" he caved.

"Yes! I knew you'd cave!" Misa smirked.

With that you took them and their new pets to sign the adoption forms and gather up all the supplies they'd need for their new fur babies. Talked to them about anything else they'd need to know and with that, they had two new pets to roam around taskforce. You helped them carry everything to their car and load it up and considered it a job well done, two animals now having a home.

"Thank you so much, we'll take great care of them!" Misa said.

"I'm sure they'll love it, two new adoptions in one day is pretty damn good, and I'll see you both in a few weeks for checkups!" you replied.

"So bring them in on the 28th in their carriers?" L asked.

"Yep, I'll take care of the rest!"

"Thank you, bye!" Misa said.

With a few final goodbyes, they began to drive off back to taskforce. Misa petting her new pet though the bars of the carrier cage and L forced to drive with a bunny in a cage in his lap.

"I can't believe I caved..." he sighed.

"So... was it the bunny that's cute... or the girl that was holding it?" Misa teased.

"What?"

"I saw you blushing at her! You so thought she was hot!"

"S-she was pretty... I guess... why is that a problem?" L stammered.

"Ahhh you so have a crush on her! You're blushing so hard!"

"M-MISA-"
