Duet part 2
Today was the last day before you got the road to perform. The last day to rehearse, and the day you got to rehearse in the beautiful costumes given for the show.
You'd been working with the rest of the cast for months now, and everything had gone smoothly. Misa did get paired up with a cute boy. Well, cute to her at least. His name was Light, honestly he looked kind of annoyed whenever Misa went on and on about him but it was rather amusing to watch.
So there you sat, tying up your shoes in the beautiful dress you got to wear. It was white with a flowy skirt, going down to the knees, had gold on the seams ams rhinestones all up the front, two feathered wings on your back, small enough to dance buy big enough to be noticeable. Hair tied up in a neat bun with a gold headbands representing a halo. You were pretty stoked you could keep it, because it was so pretty.
The rest of the dancers scattered the studio, stretching and getting ready. And finally, late as usual, Ryuzaki walked in. Well... kind of Ryuzaki. After rehearsing with him for months you ended up finding out his real name was L, but Ryuzaki was like a second name because no one ever believed him when he said his name was just the letter. And he used to be bullied for it when he was little, so it was kept on the down low.
He was the only one who had two costumes in the performance. He started in a lose grey shirt plain pants, but once his character became an angel he had the same wigs you did, a shirt with see-through arms that made it look like gold swirls were painted onto him, white torso area with gold rhinestones, matching pants and a gold headdress. So in he ran, angel costume on a coat hanger and dance bag hanging off his shoulder.
"Damn you can never make it on time can you?" You laughed.
He dumped his stuff down next to yours and quickly got his shoes out, stuffing his feet into them and tying them up.
"I was busy packing. I didn't miss anything?" He replied.
"Nope, unless you count Misa's ten thousandth speech about why Light is perfect for her"
"Ok yeah I missed nothing"
The studio head walked in, clapping to get everyone's attention. This was a very important reversal, on stage, full costume, all costume changes, no breaks apart from intermission. It was exactly like the real show, just without an audience. On a tight schedule.
"Alright everyone, 5 minutes until curtains, tie up your shoes, finish your hair and get into places. This is it people, tomorrow is the opening show!"
Everyone scrambled to finish what they were doing and rushed out the doors to get to the stage, you could see the tech crew working backstage rush past to get everything ready. L frantically tied his last shoe up and grabbed his water bottle ams second costume.
"Come on we gotta hurry" he said.
"Says the one who's always late" you replied.
"Ha ha, come on were the main character we can't screw this up!"
"Wow no pressure then" you laughed.
You grabbed your water bottle and spare shoes just in case and followed him to the backstage area. Setting all your stuff down on the table and looking over at the clock every two seconds. You buzzed, this was the real thing in preparation for the big day tomorrow. Nothing could go wrong. Misa rushes over and dumped her stuff on the table.
Her costume suited her well, long sleeved white dress with a long circle skirt, when she spun the skirt would flare out. Hair tied back with a silver headband and angel wings on her back, she had a small prop harp and glitter on her cheeks.
"I've never been more exited, scared and stressed in my life and it isn't even show day yet" she laughed.
"Just imagine what it'll be like tomorrow" you replied.
"Oh god I'll have a heart attack"
"Same. I'll end up a real angel"
Light walked up, putting his stuff next to Misa's. You could definitely tell he was salty because he wanted the lead role and L got it, but he knew how important this show was, so he stayed out of it.
"How much time left?" He asked.
L looked at the clock.
"2 minutes"
Light grabbed the last part of his costume, the wings and frantically strapped them on.
"Shit, Misa we need to get into position" he said.
"We do. Good luck guys" she said.
You watched them rush off to get onto stage. You snickered, Light was so salty man...
"Notice how Misa wishes us luck and not Light? He's so salty at you" you laughed.
"Not my fault I'm a better dancer" L replied.
"You gotta get on stage too, I need to be ready at the sides for my entrance. Good luck"
You turned to rush to the side stage entrance when L grabbed your arm.
"Wait-"
You turned to face him.
"What? Better be quick, clock is ticking" you replied.
"I know it's not performance day yet but all this day-before-hype is making me jittery. Be careful ok? I don't want you stepping wrong and hurting yourself. Dancing with an understudy isn't the same" he said.
"I'll be fine, we've done this dance a million times. You be careful too ok?" You replied.
"I will, I don't really want you dancing with an understudy either"
"No way. This is OUR dance! Good luck ok? You'll do great"
"30 SECONDS TILL CURTAIN!" the stage manager yelled in the distance.
"Good luck, one last thing" L said.
"Yeah?"
Before you could comprehend anything, you felt him tug on your arm and pull you closer. He pressed his lips to yours, catching you off guard. You let it happen, you didn't mind the kiss. He pulled back and smiled down at you.
"Now go, you'll miss your que"
And with that, he turned and rushed off to his position on stage. You stood there for a moment, comprehending what just happened. But when you heard the countdown to curtain begin you snapped out of it and dashed to your position. Smiling like an idiot.
Misa was right... it was chemistry after all.
