Detention part 2

A/n: thanks for all the support on the last post guys. I still have a few finished oneshots lined up so the schedule change won't happen just yet. And yes you can all request things if you wish, just DM them to me.

AU: highschool. No Kira.

Every since that faithful day you got thrown into detention with L, the two of you became the best of friends. Although it was true L was getting a lot more detentions now that he was friends with you, it was always for something stupid that didn't matter. And you just ditched the rest of the day anyway when that happened.

It became a tradition to walk to his house after school for cake and tea. You'd hang for a while before having to head home yourself. You didn't live too far away from each other, just around the corner. He always had a spare spot on his messy bedroom floor for you to do your homework too. And there was always a strawberry shortcake slice on the table for you when you came over.

Eventually, your parents wanted to know who this boy you'd been hanging out with was. So today there was a change of plan. Instead of going over to his house, he was coming to yours for after school snacks instead. So when the bell rang at the end of the day, it was a different route back from school.

"What if your parents don't like me?" He asked.

"They will, you're a softie and they'll approve of that" you replied.

"I'll take that... as a compliment?"

"Yeah, softie is a good thing"

You turned the corner at the traffic lights, seeing your house at the end of the street. You hadn't really cleaned your room, but you knew L wouldn't care. You hadn't made any preparations apart from extra snacks but you knew it wasn't a big deal. You and L were buddies anyway, and it's not like he kept his room clean when you came over. Always a book or two on the floor and countless lollipop wrappers on the desk.

"What are gonna do?" L asked.

"Eat, then we can... go on the trampoline, watch TV, harass the cats, go to the park, anything really" you replied.

In all honesty you were slightly nervous. Even though you and L were buddies, your mum and dad knew all about the little crush you'd developed on him. You prayed they wouldn't bring it up. God that would be embarrassing. Walking up your driveway and to the doorstep, you reached for the door and pushed it open. You tossed your bag down and kicks off your shoes, telling L to leave his stuff by yours. He looked around at your house. Nothing too fancy, just a normal house, but it looked nice. Well decorated and clean.

"MUUUUMMMMMM! I'M HOME!" You called out.

"IM IN THE KITCHEN!" She yelled back.

"This way"

You beckoned for L to follow, walking down the hall and swinging around the doorframe. You went straight for the fridge, passing your mother at the counter.

"Not even a 'how was your day mum?" She joked.

"Can't talk, need food. You think I hate the slop at the cafeteria?"

That's when your mum laid her eyes on L, who was shyly standing beside you. From all the stories she's heard about him from you, he looked exactly how you described him. Soft, tired and tall. You pulled the chocolate truffles you made the day before out from the fridge and put them on the counter.

"Seriously these are so good, I can't believe you've never had them" you said to L, who took one from the container as you grabbed some bowls.

"I've always been a cake person I guess" he replied.

He took a bite, immediately liking what he tasted. It was sweet but has a chocolate- almost salty pang to it.

"This good! You made these"

"Told you you'd like them. And yes I made these"

You mother watched, wondering when you'd pick up on the fact you hadn't done a formal introduction yet. And it seems you picked it up pretty quick. The second you put the bowls down, a sudden 'oh right' left your mouth.

"Mum, L, L Mum. He's chill you dint gotta worry about him" you said.

"So I've been told, nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about your adventures in detention over dumb things" your mum said.

"Uh- Nice to meet you too. Yeah, detention had been our second home ever since we started hanging out" L replied.

You pulled some chopped fruit and chocolate bars from the fridge as well as some bottles of iced tea, plating up two bowls for the both of you. You both sat at the breakfast bar to eat and conversed with your mum about school. Your mum didn't like the school either, but as it was the only one in your area you were stuck there.

"So, any detentions this week?" She asked.

"Surprisingly no" you replied.

"It's a miracle" L added.

You noticed your mums confused glance over at L when she released the way he sat, but she didn't seem to mind. You had some strange pretzel positions sometimes, nothing new.

"So what are you two gonna do after eating?" She asked, giving you a sly smile.

You glared back at your mum, slightly shaking your head.

"Not sure, probably screw around on the trampoline or something. Because you know, we're in high school but have the minds of five year olds" you replied.

"That sounds fun, if I had spare clothes I'd suggest we stick a sprinkler under it and cool off. It's bloody hot" L added.

"Ah, if only. Maybe we can go swimming on the weekend or something, it's gotten really hot recently"

You heard the back door open, then close. Knowing it was your dad coming back from presumably gardening you didn't stress it too much.

"You know what we could do? Bring a slip and slide down to the park with the big hill. We can hook a hose up to the drinking fountain taps and slide down the hill" you said.

"Yes, that sounds fun! I have body boards we can use too"

You liked when L got exited over something, he lit up. He had a resting sad face and when he got existed it's changed to happiness, his smile made you smile. Literally, as soon as he smiled you did too. You knew you'd get playfully teased about it when he left but you didn't care. As long as he was happy. Moments like that just made you fall deeper in love.

"What sounds fun?"

You both turned to see your dad walk in.

"We're gonna get the slip and slide out on the weekend and take it to the park with the hill so we can slide down the hill" you suggested.

"Oh! You know what we should do? Bring soap so we slide super fast" L added.

"I like this guys style" your dad laughed.

"Oh yeah. This is L, L this is dad"

"N-nice to meet you" L stammered.

"You too, I've heard a lot about you"

You shot your dad a death glare so he knew not to pull any funny stuff and spill the secret of your crush.

"You have?" L questioned.

"Sure have, you two seem to practically live in detention for things you didn't do"

You mentally sighed I'm relief. Your crush was a secret for now. But you knew if you stuck around any longer it could potentially be a spilled secret.

"Hey, last one to the trampoline is a loser" you said.

"Bet" L replied.

The two of you scrambled from your seats and swung around the door frame, skidding down the hall to the back door. Your parents watched you giggle as you raced down the hall and left.

"What do you think? We'll be seeing him more often?" You mum asked.

Your dad smiled, glad you finally had some friends. And he could tell there was something more just waiting to happen.

"That right there, is a pair of high school sweethearts"
