Appetite part 2

A/n: oops I was out WAY later than I thought I'd be yesterday. Soz for no post guys but here it is now.

It was almost like a walk of shame. Your hand protectively on his back as you walked down the hallways, he felt so much fear.

The night had been a roller coaster of emotions. First sadness, then dread, anger, shock, shame, happiness and now fear.

L, the worlds greatest detective, has an eating disorder and is severely underweight. While his newfound love knew, and was trying to help, his foster dad didn't know. And if he wanted to heal at all, he needed to confess. He was worried, would Watari be mad? Did he already know but just didn't anything out of fear? Will he send him off to a hospital? Will he be upset? Will he be... disappointed?

Disappointment, that's what he feared the most. There was no worse feeling than disappointing someone you cared about.

You walked into the mans office, where he was going over the recent reports from the police station about Kira. It want unusual for L to be awake this late, but when he turned and saw you there too, and L looking down at the ground with tear stained cheeks he was confused.

"What brings you here so late?" He asked.

You looked up at L, reassuringly rubbing his back.

"You have to tell him..." you said.

"I- um..." L stammered.

Watari was very confused. Seeing L like this was odd, especially around another person.

"I've... been..."

The fear of disappointment was just too much, tears falling down his cheeks again, he turned to you and buried his head in your shoulder.

"I can't... I can't..." he sobbed.

Now Watari was beyond confused. He'd only ever seen L cry when he was a traumatised child back when he was first orphaned. It had been over a decade since he'd seen L so upset. You sighed, obviously this was soo hard for L.

"Do you want me to tell him?" You asked.

He nodded, trying to wipe the tears away. You turned to Watari with another sigh.

"He's severely underweight... for months he's been throwing up everything he eats at night. hes got an eating disorder..." you said.

That was something Watari didn't expect. He knew L was rather thin, but not underweight. And he didn't suspect an eating disorder at all with all the cakes and fruits he requests on a day to day basis. But the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. Why he could eat so much and still be hungry, why he was as thin as he was, why he was so defensive of people trying to get onto his floor any why he disappeared at night.

It hurt L to look his caretaker in the eye. But he had the same question as you did.

"Why..? Why do you feel the need..." he said.

"B-because I can't stand the way people look at me like I'm some kind of alien... this whole time I've been taking those looks as disgust, but (y/n) swears it's just worry and fear... I just don't want to feel like it's all eyes on me and have people think I'm some... creep. If I meet societies standards then maybe it'll all stop" L explained.

Watari knew L. He knew what he'd had to endure before he came to the orphanage. It was so surprise he was still having issues later in life. But self esteem wasn't something he expected, L always seemed like he didn't care about looks at all. It was silent for a moment as the information was processed.

"I'm not mad... just, I didn't think you'd end up like this" Watari said.

"I just wanted it to stop..." L replied.

It was no secret L didn't know how to process emotions well, but this was definitely new, and very odd to see. It was so out of character for L. But even the strongest people have weak minds behind a mask. Watari sighed, it didn't matter you were there, it was time to go into father mode. If L had already let go in front you, there was no point trying to hide that he and L had a family dynamic behind the masks of the Kira case.

"Come here" he sighed, opening his arms for a hug.

L accepted, walking over and letting the only father figure he had embrace him.

"I'm sorry..." L whispered.

"There's nothing to be sorry about" he replied.

You let out a mental sigh of relief. Thank god this went well. You didn't think it would go badly but a situation as tense as this would make anyone anxious. You had always known that L and Watari has a hidden family dynamic. You could tell from the seemingly telepathic bond they had. There'd be times when L could just look and Watari and he'd know exactly what to do. It was nice to see them actually be a family for once. It mustn't be very nice having to hide that you cared for someone.

"I always knew something like this would happen, you never did have a good mental health record. I just didn't know what or when it would happen. Quite frankly I'm more surprised you even let (y/n) in on this" Watari said.

"She knew. She always did, she just didn't know how to bring it up. But you can't really hide anything when they catch you in the act. Out of everyone in taskforce she's the most trustworthy... don't tell anyone else I said they they'll get all salty" L replied.

Slightly giggling at the last part you smiled at him.

"Yeah, maybe don't mention that last part" you added.

The hug broke and there was a sense of relief in the air. Now that this was out there, and everyone important to L knew, he could start to fix things.

"We has kind of a plan of how to try and fix this. For a while I'll make him breakfast, starting small and slowly getting bigger. Then we just have to watch him and make sure he doesn't relapse into the mindset again" you explained.

"That's sounds like a good start, eating more than just sugar and carbs would help too" Watari added.

"But meat and vegetables are gross" L said.

"Not if I'm the one that makes them. I'll have you know I make five star spaghetti bolognese" you said.

L smiled at your sass.

"I'll be the judge of that thank you very much"

You just laughed and shook your head. At lest his sense of humour was still in tact. The next hour or so was spent working on a plan, what to eat and how much of it. Who'd be keeping and eye on L over the next few months, weight goals, how to build back his broken confidence.

You'd come up with a whole system, and what foods to eat that he wouldn't complain about. L's the type of person that would eat a carrot cake and count that as a vegetable. So you did have a bit of trouble finding non-sugary foods he'd actually eat without complaining but you eventually figured everything out. After that whole fiasco, you sent L off to bed, him needing to get some sleep after all the stress. Watari thanked you for stepping in, and keeping and eye on his foster son. You were glad that if for some reason you couldn't be there, L had someone else to go to. You were glad to see them be a family for once.

But you had one last thing to do before you went to bed as well.

When L woke up the next day, a little later then he should have admittedly, he could already smell those pancakes you'd promised. In all honesty, he was actually pretty exited for pancakes. Pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream were the best breakfast in his opinion.

He sleepily walked down to the kitchen where you'd already dished up two small pancakes and topped them with fruit and cream.

"Good morning" you said.

"Good morning. I'm guessing you've cooked for the whole taskforce?" He replied, seeing the extra dishes by the sink.

"They're like seagulls, the second they smell food they gotta have some"

He laughed at your comparison. You definitely weren't planning on making this many pancakes but here you were. You slid his plate over to him, he could now see the cream in the shape of heart.

"Take these and go ahead. I've still got to make myself some breakfast. I'll meet you out there" you said, leaning over the counter to place a kiss on his cheek.

He accepted with a shy smile and took his plate, knife and fork. He went out to his desk in the monitor room where everyone was already awake and either working or eating your delicious pancakes. Putting the plate down and sitting at his desk, he was about to poke his fork into a strawberry when he saw something on his computer screen.

Where his reflection would usually be in the glass, was a pink sticky note.

You're so fucking beautiful. You're going to beat this.

His heart skipping a beat, something told him that those sticky notes would be a daily thing.
