Ultimate Sacrifice (Hercules)
Kyra beamed, love hearts in her eyes, as she swung from the power tower. Her heart was a flutter and a smile was permanently painted on her face. She just had the most amazing date with Eliza who was just the most beautiful, gorgeous, funny, genuine girl she'd ever met. She knew now that she loved her more than words could tell. If only Kyra knew the truth.
Jet sighed as he watched her from the sidelines, a pang of guilt in his heart. Kyra seemed so happy and he didn't want to ruin that but Kyra deserved to know the truth. She was his best friend and he couldn't stand seeing her hurt. Taking a big gulp of air and preparing for the worst, he slowly approached Kyra.
By now, Kyra had jumped down and was happily swinging on the vault. She noticed Jet out of the corner of her eye and her grin widened, her concentration not faltering. His expression completely constrasted hers as he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, a frown upon his face.
"Hey Jet" Kyra beamed before noticing his disheartened expression. Yet she refused to let the joy in her heart falter. "What's gotten you so down?"
"Kid, we need to talk" Jet spoke in a solemn tone.
Kyra however didn't notice this, too overwhelmed with happiness and excitement. She jumped down and picked him up by his horns, spinning his around. "Oh Jet I just had the best day ever!! I can't stop thinking about Liza!" She let go of Jet as he spun like a whirlwind into the floor. Kyra swung on the power tower before jumping on top of it and lying there. "She's something else" a massive dopey grin was plastered onto her face.
Jet stood up, brushing himself off. "Kid, I'm trying to talk to you! Would you come down here and listen?" He called up to Kyra, his words proving pointless.
"How can I come down there when I'm so high up?" She giggled as she jumped into the air, her body now in the clouds just like her head.
Jet huffed, his frustration slowly growing. "Ha ha very funny. Now what I'm trying to say is-"
Kyra clearly wasn't listening as she was elated with love and thoughts of Eliza. She landed gracefully on her feet. "And if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have met her" she hugged Jet tightly, squeezing him despite his resistance. "I owe you little guy, really I do"
Jet squirmed out of Kyra's hold with great difficulty, really wishing she would listen and not make this any harder than it already was. "Listen to me!" His face was now turning red as he was unable to contain his anger. "She's-"
"My dream come true?" Kyra cut him off, running the other side of him and forcing him to turn around.
"Not exactly"
"More beautiful that Aphrodite?" Kyra's glee and butterflies refused to leave her body and she didn't want them to as right now, she was the happiest she'd ever been.
"Aside from that"
"The most wonderful-"
This time, Jet cut Kyra off as he grabbed her hands and yelled into her face. "She's a fraud!" All his frustrations were let out now yet Kyra still seemed unaffected. Jet released Kyra's hands, pushing her back. "She's been playing you for a sap!"
Initially, Kyra didn't, or refused to, believe Jet, quickly dismissing his claims. "Oh come on. Stop messing around" She walked away from him, that dopey grin still painted on her face.
Jet pulled himself up onto the vault, to get to her level, clearly agitated that Kyra refused to believe him, his anger once again growing. "I'm not messing around" he now stood to his feet. "You're missing the point here kid"
Kyra turned around, her grin slowly fading as she poked Jet's chest. "The point is I love her!"
"She don't love you!" He put his hands on his hips as Kyra huffed, once again dismissing him.
"You're crazy"
"She's nothing but a two timing-"
"Stop it!" Kyra begged, the two interrupting eachother and their faces turning red with anger for the other.
"No good, lying, scheming" he neared Kyra and Kyra had finally had enough of him.
"Shut up!" She yelled, pushing him so hard that he was propled back and hit a pile of training equipment. Her eyes widened as her jaw dropped, clearly not meaning to do that.
Jet looked up at her, hurt and betrayal in his eyes. He let out a deep sigh and shook his head as he brushed off the equipment and pulled himself to his feet, starting to walk away.
"I'm sorry" Kyra's voice was softer now.
Jet brushed himself off, refusing to look Kyra in the eyes. "You won't face the truth? Fine" he started to walk away.
"Jet wait! Where are you going?" Kyra called after him, debating whether to follow or not.
"I'm hopping the first barge out of here. I'm heading home" he refused to look back as he spoke as he continued walking.
"F-fine! Go! I don't need you!" Kyrs tried to hide her sorrow as she continued lifting equipment, trying to erase all Jet had said from her mind.
Jet sighed as he leant against the wall on his way out. "I thought you were gonna be an all time champ not the all time chump" He muttered to himself as he took one glance back at Kyra before leaving.
The arena was dark now and Kyra's joy about Eliza had been replaced with both guilt and anger about Jet. She tried to brush away any thoughts though as she continued to lift weights, a solemn expression now replacing her dopey grin.
A sole torch kept the arena alight, thought it was flickering and slowly dying. Suddenly, without a fight, the light vanished as if blown out by some unseen wind. A sudden chill filled the warm, Theben air. Kyra sighed, knowing exactly what this meant and dreading what would happen next.
"Geez what got his goat huh?" A smooth, unfamiliar voice called out yet Kyra knew exactly who it was. She refused to look at the source and instead tried to focus her attention on her training but it proved to be fruitless. A puff of smoke appeared beside her to reveal a dark grey figure, his blue flame atop his head the only bright part of his appearance. "Hades, Lord of the dead. How you doing?"
"Not now" Kyra sighed, dismissing him as she trudged away from his direction. But Hades was persistent and refused to take no for an answer.
He appeared infront of her again, his voice smooth and quick. "It'll only take a few seconds. I'm a fast talker." Kyra tried to back away but Hades merely took a step forward every time she took a step back. "See, I've got this major deal in the works and Kyra, you seem to be constantly getting in the way" he pinched her cheek with a sickening smile.
Kyra pushed his hand away, pushing him to one side as she tried to walk away. "You've got the wrong girl" she sighed, not in the mood to put up with any of Hade's shenanigans.
Hade's sleek blue flame turned red with anger for a moment. He appeared behind her and grabbed her shirt, pulling her around to face him "Come here you little-" He shook his head, taking a deep breath as he quickly regained his composure, his hair turning back to its usually bright blue. He placed one of his grey arms around Kyra, much to her dismay. "Just hear me out okay? I would be eternally grateful if you would just take a day off from this hero stuff of yours"
"You're out of your mind" Kyra scoffed as she pried off his arm and now began to head towards the exit.
"Not so fast" Hades grabbed Kyra again before she could get far. "Because I do have a little leverage you just might want to know about" He poked her chest before clicking his fingers.
Suddenly, as if out of no where, Eliza appeared. She glanced around for a moment, confused and trying to understand her surroundings until it hit her. Her eyes widened, realising the big mistake she had made.
"Liza!" Kyra called out, an arm outstretched towards the one she loved.
Eliza began to run towards Kyra, desperation in her eyes. "Don't listen to h-" before she could finish her sentence, she was pulled to the floor. Grey, shadowy restrains slithered up her body and eventually around her mouth. She lay there helpless, her hands tied behind her back as she tried to yell but her voice was muffled.
Kyra desperately ran towards Eliza to save her but she vanished in a cloud of smoke. Rage and panic now glowed in Kyra's eyes as she sharply turned towards Hades. "Let her go!" She demanded, running towards him to attacking him but falling through, landing on her face.
"Here's the trade. You give up your strength for 24 hours, say the next 24 hours" Kyra pulled herself to her feet, brushing herself off as Hades clicked his fingers and Eliza appeared seated on a stall, the strains tightening each second. "And Eliza here is free as a bird and safe from harm. We dance, we kiss, we schmooze, we carry on, we go home. What do you say? Come one"
Kyra thought about it for a moment, her head hung low. She glanced at Eliza who was frantically shaking her head then back at Hades, despair in her eyes. "People are going to get hurt aren't they?"
"Nah. Well it's a possibility cause you know, it's war. But what can I tell you? Anyway, what do you owe these people huh?" He head over to Eliza and grabbed her chin, her eyes pleading Kyra to refuse. "Isn't smoochy face Liza here more important to you than them?"
"Stop it!" Kyra yelled, knowing what Hades was trying to do and trying desperately not to let him win.
"Isn't she?" He squeezed Eliza's cheeks tighter and she tried to speak but her pleas were muffled by the restraints.
"You've gotta swear she'll be safe from any harm" Fury raged in Kyra's eyes now.
"Fine okay" Hades let go of Eliza. "She gets hurt and the deals off yadayada. Fine print blah blah blah. So, what do you say? Shake on it and it's done" Hades was now infront of Kyra and held his long, boney hand out for her to shake. Kyra still hesitated, unsure on what to do. Hades rolled his eyes, growing impatient "Come on I don't have all day. I need an answer now. Going once. Going twice"
Kyra's eyes widened, her heart racing as she really didn't know what to do. She glanced back at Eliza one last time and could see she was in pain and agony, yet for different reasons than she realised in the moment. Despite Eliza desperately shaking her head, Kyra turned back to Hades. "Alright!"
"Yes! We're there! Bam!" Hades clasped his long, boney hand around Kyra's and the two shook hands. As they did, a bright blue light shone as light slowly drained from Kyra's body, her strength slipping away from her. She let out a groan of agony as she fell to the floor, her muscles aching and her body weak.
"You may feel queasy, kinda natural. Maybe you should just sit down" Hades through a weight at Kyra and despite her best efforts to catch it, she fell under its weight, all her strength vanished. Hades grinned, his sinister voice nearing Kyra. "Now you know how it feels to be just like everyone else" he put his face against Kyra's, his warm breath on her neck. "Isn't it just peachy?" His grin widened, his teeth sharp and pointy.
"Oh and there's just one more thing. I think you'll love it" he headed over to Eliza, who quickly glanced away. "Liza babe. A deal's a deal. You're off the hook" He clicked his fingers and the restraints vanished, freeing Eliza. She let out a gasp for fresh air and before she could do anything else, Hades delicately grabbed her hand, pulling her up. "And by the way Kyra, isn't Eliza here just a fabulous little actress?" He pulled Eliza close to him mimickingly despite her groans and squirming to escape his grip.
"Stop it" she begged.
Kyra just about managed to pull herself off the ground and stared at the two in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I mean your little sweetie pie here has been working for me the whole time" Hades grinned, pulling Eliza closer despite her eyes pleading him not to. Eliza looked over at Kyra, a sincere, quilty look planted on her face.
"You're...you're lying!" Kyra yet again refused to believe the truth that was right in front of her. She loved Eliza too much to believe that she would trick her like that. Eliza sighed as she shook her head, confirming what Hades had said.
"Couldn't have done it without you my little sugar-poo. My sweetheart babe" Hades mocked Eliza, tilting her chin to look into his eyes.
"No! It's not like that!" Eliza freed herself from Hade's grip and ran towards Kyra. "I didn't mean to...I couldn't...I" she tried to speak to Kyra but Kyra pushed her away. Eliza held onto her arm, trying to explain herself. She sighed, realising no words could explain the horrible things she'd done. "I'm sorry"
Kyra collapsed to the floor leaving Eliza staring at her, tears of guilt trickling down her face. The two held their hands in their faces and sobbed, refusing to look eachother in the eyes. What had they done?
