A proposal gone wrong

Kyra smiled as she glanced at her friend Rosie, ring in hand. She was planning to propose to her girlfriend of 5 years Eliza but wanted Rosie's help and advice as she wasn't exactly the best at this. Rosie examined the golden ring with the red glistening gem and let out a small squeal.

"It's perfect!" She exclaimed. "Red is Eliza's favourite colour after all. Oh I'm so happy for you two" She threw her arms around Kyra who giggled and happily returned the hug.

"Me too. Just need to plan how I'm gonna do it now. Oh I hope she says yes" She nervously bit her lip.

"What are you talking about? Of course she will! She loves you Kyra and you love her. It was meant to be"

As the two girls chatted excitedly, they were unaware that Eliza was passing by. She was also in the shopping centre the two girls were at, buying an anniversary present for Kyra. But when she saw the two together hugging, her heart stood still, her mouth ajar. She almost dropped her bag in shock. Eliza didn't exactly have much common sense to realise that they were in a jewellery shop so immediately her mind jumped to the conclusion that Kyra was cheating on her. With her ex of all people!

Shock turned to anger as a deep fire ran through Eliza's veins. How dare she?! How dare they both?! It took Eliza a while to trust people and Kyra knew that better than anyone so why would she betray her trust just like that? Not knowing what else to do, she stormed home, her teeth clenched and her hand curled up into a fist.

When she got home to the house her and Kyra shared, her anger quickly turned to sorrow as she flopped down on the sofa face first and started to sob. Kyra was the first person she truly loved. She couldn't imagine life without her. She was perfect. But clearly Eliza wasn't good enough for her. Otherwise she wouldn't cheat on her. Letting all her tears flow freely down her cheek, she cried until her eyes had dried up before heading to the bathroom to splash her face with water and sit down and watch TV.

A few hours later, Kyra returned home with a bright smile on her face, completely unaware that Eliza had seen her and Rosie. She immediately pecked Eliza on the cheek before unpacking her bags, making sure to keep the ring hidden in her pocket.

"Hey honey! How was your day?" She asked, not making an attempt to hide her excitement.

"Fine" Eliza mumbled, her eyes fixed on the TV and refusing to move.

Kyra frowned, knowing something was up. "What's wrong? You don't usually act like this"

Eliza simply ignored her, too angry to talk.

Kyra sighed and took the remote from Eliza's hands, pausing the TV. "Honey please talk to me. What's wrong? Why are you acting like this?"

Eliza couldn't hide it anymore. A raging fire burned in her eyes as she snapped, all emotions she tried to conceal flying out. "What's wrong?!? What's fucking wrong?!? How dare you ask me that and act like everything's fine when you know damn well it's not! I saw you with Rosie, giggling and hugging and all happy. I saw the way she looked at you! I know you're cheating on me with her. My ex of all people! Oh but who could blame you? Rosie is so sweet and caring and loving and what am I? What am I compared to her huh?! A raging lunatic! She's so much better than me and you know it! That's why you chose her over me isn't it?! Well the cat's out of the bag now! Cause I know your dirty little secret and if you think I'm gonna stay with you, you are very much mistaken. So don't 'honey' me! And don't ask what's wrong when you know damn well!" Anger was bouncing off of her in all directions and she didn't attempt at all to conceal it.

Kyra stared at her in shock, her heart sunk. Honestly, she felt hurt. Hurt that Eliza would assume that she would do something like that. A lone tear trickled down her cheek. "Is that how you think of me? Do you think I'm some sort of cheater?"

"Well I didn't but I've seen the proof!"

Kyra shook her head, more tears running down her cheek with her powerless to stop them. "You misunderstood. Rosie and I aren't together. You're the one I love and the only girl for me. I would never, ever think of betraying you like that"

Eliza took some deep breaths, calming herself down a little. "Then why did I see you with her?"

"She was helping me with this" This wasn't what she had planned but knew it had to do. She gently pulled out the ring and Eliza gazed at it in awe and shock. "I was planning on proposing to you and Rosie was helping me as I wasn't sure on the right way to do it. But now, well I don't think we're ready to get married" she gently closed the box and put the ring away

Eliza pulled Kyra into a tight hug. "Oh love I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that. And if you asked me, I'd say yes"

Kyra nodded, burying her head in Eliza's chest and gently sobbing. "Maybe one day"
