A little fall of rain

She didn't think. She just acted. She saw them point the gun at the one she loved and she jumped infront to save her. She knew the love was unrequited but she didn't care. And now she was lying on the floor, her beloved by her side and rain pattering down.

Eliza's eyes slowly opened as she glanced around in confusion. Why hadn't she been shot? She glanced down and let out a small gasp at the sight of Kyra lying on the floor. She knelt beside her. "Kyra, what's wrong?" Worry flickered in her eyes as she ran her fingers along Kyra's damp, white hair. Her fingers fumbled down to Kyra's coat as she slowly opened it and gasped at the sight of blood pouring out. "Oh gosh Kyra! You're hurt! It's everywhere"

Kyra placed a gentle finger on Eliza's lips. "Don't you fret, Madame Eliza. I don't feel any pain. A little fall of rain can't hurt me now"

Eliza shook her head, tears brimming her eyes. "But you will live. If I could heal your wounds with words of love" At this moment, feelings she never knew she had surfaced as she felt a pain in her heart as she saw life slowly fade from Kyra's body.

Kyra gave a small smile. "Just hold me now. Let it be" Eliza nodded and gently carried her somewhere a little quieter, resting her body against a wall and holding her in her arms.

The rain taunted them, showing its life whilst Kyra's was slowly running out. Yet if she was in Eliza's arms, that's all that mattered to her. She loved her more than words could say, even if Eliza didn't see it, and if she could die with Eliza by her side then it would be a happy death.

"The rain can't hurt me now" Kyra smiled as she gazed into Eliza's eyes, her voice soft and weak as life slowly faded.

"Shhh I'm here. I'm here" Eliza reassured her as she gently caressed her cheek, holding her close. She may have had a girlfriend but something compelled her to Kyra and in these last few moments, the least she could do was be by her side.

"That's all I need to know. You will keep me safe. You will keep me close. I'll sleep in your embrace at last" she rested her head in Eliza's chest as she took one last breath, content in her dying moments. Finally she was in the arms of the one she loved. And that's all she wanted.

Eliza's tears spilled over Kyra's body as she gently kissed her forehead, too late. "A little fall of rain can't hurt you now"
