Avni backstory: Avni is a NRI girl (Non resident Indian) she has lived abroad ever since she was a child
She was born in Canada yet never really cared to know her roots. Both of her parents are from India and decided for a change in scenery to raise Avni. They support their daughter completely in whatever decision she makes but when it came to her life partner they had to accepted her choice Neil.
Neil convinced Avni for marriage and instead of her moving he insisted to come to her country. His mom Neela was against his decision essentially to be what she called a "ghar jamai". This distance grew over time between the three Avni, Neil, and Neela. The day she learned her husband left her against her better judgement and parents disapproval she went to India to become Neela's bahu.

Neela's backstory- At a young age Neela got maaried to Ashish whose family had no objections at the time. On a daily basis her mother in law taunts her how her friend's daughter Ayesha should have been her bahu/ Ashish's wife and belittles her constantly. She is a very traditional and dutiful bahu. Neela and Ashish have one son Neil. She wanted Neil to marry the girl of her choosing so she would be loved by her bahu. Imagine her shock when her son wanted to not only marry a NRI girl but also move. She asked him would he choose that girl over his mother he rather quickly answered saying the girl. She drew the line between him and her. She stayed true to her word by not attending his wedding nor contacting him as the years went by. Her hatred intensified towards that girl when that girl showed up at their house alone.

This part was the two main characters backstories Avni and Neela. The supporting characters(in no particular order) are Ashish, Avni's parents, Ayesha, Ashish's parents, and society ladies. This story mainly focuses on Avni's strained relation with Neela and Neela's relationship with her mother in law. The vicious cycle where saas hate bahus continues. The idea for the story was what if Neela didn't like Avni and Neil wasn't there what would happen? That's how Kyunti Saas Bhi Bahu Hai Na🤔 {I know this title is so unoriginal🙄 } came to be.
