8 THE DATE
1st POV
'Well this could be going better.' I think to myself as we sit an awkward silence. Kyoya shifts in his seat from time to time and I can't even bring myself to make eye contact with him. 'So much for my dating experience. Maybe I should have grabbed a book about dating.'
"So how do you think the others are going contribute to our date?" I ask, and finally make eye contact with him.
"In all honesty I don't want to know. But I'm sure it will cause some sort of scene."
"I can believe that. I also suspect that my sisters are going to be involved as well."
"Yes. I believe that as well."
I let out a small chuckle and give my head a slight shake.
"What's funny?" Kyoya asks with confusion radiating from him.
"Nothing really. Just that I find the fact that we've had several conversations in class together and only now does it seem that neither of us can find any words at all."
"That is a bit funny. But why do you think that is?"
"Because there was other people around. We are so used to presenting ourselves to the public that we were able to mask any uneasiness or any other feelings. However when alone it is easier to feel uncertain about things and harder to truly express ourselves. Dear God, I sound like a therapist of some kind." I chuckle and finally meet his gaze.
"You did. But I agree with what you said. I believe that you are right. So how about we promise to never be anything but our true selves around one another?"
"Sounds good to me. But I am still finding the real me."
"I see. Then why don't you tell me what you think used to be the real you. The one before you took over all your responsibilities."
"I... I want to. But I'm not sure how you will react or treat me after. How I used to behave is not the most socially acceptable thing. I used to be quiet the trouble maker."
"Weren't we all at some point."
"No where near my level of trouble and disappointment."
"If you don't want to tell me then I understand. We all have secrets that we want to hide."
"Thank you. I will tell you at some point thou. I know it."
"How about a secret for a secret then? I have quite the talent when it comes to painting"
"I know how to preform on a tightrope."
"What?!" He asks with wide eyes and it's clear that I caught him off guard. His expression is so sudden and pure that I laugh.
"Oh my, the face you just made." I laugh and try to calm myself. "I have seen a lot of people making similar ones but they've never been so pure and honest." I giggle as I finally start t clam down.
"Well you can't blame me. I've never heard anyone saying that they could do that. Might I ask what I ask where you learned this?"
"An old friend of my mother's runs a circus. And when I was little they asked what my favorite part was. And when I answered that I loved watching his sister on the tightrope they offered to have her teach me that summer. And that's how I know how to walk the tightrope."
"That's quite the story." He says with a small smile. "I like it."
"So what's your story? What got you into painting?'
"It's just something that I do to relax and take my mind off of things."
"I can tell that's not the full story but I wont pry. But do you think that you could show me the ones you've painted some time? I would love to see them."
"We'll see. And It looks as though we have arrived at our destination." He says and looks out the window.
"Is that a carnival?
"Yes. I thought that you would enjoy it."
"I haven't been to one in years. But you were right. We haven't even gone in yet and I'm already enjoying myself. Thank you." I turn to him and give him what is probably the sincerest smile that I have given anybody in years.
Kyoya's POV
She's smiling. And it's not one of those fake ones that I've seen her give people. She means it. And my heart just skipped a beat again. What is wrong with me? I suddenly feel nervous and I can feel my face heating up. Am I getting sick?
"Kyoya? Are you alright?" (Y/N) asks ans lays her hand on mine.
"Yes, why do you asks?"
"You got really quiet and didn't respond to my question."
"Oh, yes. I was lost in thought. Nothing to worry about. Now what was your question?"
"I asked what you wanted to do first."
"In truth I don't know. I've never been to one of these commoner events."
"Commoner events." She mumbles under her breathe and looks at the carnival. Did I say something wrong?
"Then why don't I show you how amazing these can be." She laughs and grabs my hand, dragging me out of the limo and towards the entrance. It takes me a moment to gain my composure as we wait in line to get our tickets.
"So I take it that you used to come to these things often as a child." I say and look over at the carnival.
"Yes. The moment I heard that a carnival was going to be set up I would beg my parents to take me and my sisters. They would clear their schedules for an entire week just so that we could every day."
"Sounds like they truly adored all of you."
"They did. Up until the very end. Oh, look. We're next."
I pay for our ticket and they stamp our hands. I raise an eyebrow and look at (Y/N).
"The stamps mean that we don't have to buy a ticket every time we want to get on a ride." She rolls her eyes like it's the most obvious thing in the world. I nod my head and let her lead me into the carnival. She grabs my hand and I can feel my face heat up again.
The first ride we got to is a smaller roller coaster. Then a Carousel. And some sort of swing ride. I hate to admit but I am enjoying myself. As we walk through the carnival I spot several game stands and scoff at the players stupidity. These games are obviously rigged. And those people don't even realize it. Foolish. No one in their right mind would ever waste their money on such a stupid thing. Wait, where did (Y/N) go? Don't tell me she's...
I look over and see her walking towards a shooting game where a young boy is crying over a toy that his mother couldn't win him. What the hell is she doing? I walk over and watch as she pays the man and picks up the gun. The rules seem simple enough but there is always a way that these games can be rigged. Shoot twenty balloons in under a minute. It's impossible.
The timer starts and of she goes. Ten seconds in and she already has five down. Fifteen seconds eight more down. Seven more balloons and she wins. At thirty seconds all twenty are popped. She smiles triumphantly and takes the prize from the man. She turns and kneels down next to the little boy with a kind, gentle smile on her face. She hands the boy the toy and he nearly tackles her in a hug. And the mother is just staring at her in shock before she smiles and thanks her.
"Please let us repay you somehow for your generosity. " The woman says as I walk up to them.
"Alright. How about your little boy promises to always be there for you and to help others." (Y/N) says with a small smile.
"Okay. I PROMISE!" The little boy shouts and hugs her again. "Thank you again, lady, You're really nice!"
The mother and her son then walk away, disappearing into the crowd.
"I had no idea you could shoot like that." I whisper in her ear, causing her to jump.
"Uh yeah." She says and sheepishly rubs the back of her neck. "I mean. The company I own does manufacturer guns and stuff. So It was expected of me to learn how to shoot at a young age."
"So that is what you make. I was wondering what it was."
"I bet you are also wondering why it wasn't in any of your files." She says with a giggle and grabs my hand again before leading me toward the food area. "How about we grab some snacks and I'll tell you everything you want to know."
"Alright."
We walk over and get some food. As we sit down and start to talk I hear some rustling in the bushes next to us. It seems that (Y/N) has too.
1st POV
What on earth is in those bushes?!
Just as I'm about to go and investigate cheesy romantic music starts to play from said bush. Oh my fucking god. I KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!!! I'M GOING TO KILL THEM!!! DID THEY EVEN FINISH THEIR HOMEWORK?!?
3rd POV (behind the bush)
"How's it going? Do they look like their in love yet?"Sammie asks as she tries to peer through the bush.
"Ouch! Someone just stepped on my hand!" Tamaki whines and shoves his "broken" hand in Haruhi's face.
"Senpai, get out of my face." Haruhi growls and shoves him away. Tamaki bumps into the twins who then shove him away. Tamaki then lands on Honey who knocks over the stereo and lands on Mori. Suddenly Love Potion Number Nine starts blasting from the stereo. Katie and Sammie Glare at Tamaki and kick him out of the bush.
1st POV
"Hello Tamaki. What are you doing here?" I say and try my best to keep from laughing. Kyoya however is not as amused as I am. And actually looks like he wants to kill poor Tamaki. Can't blame him though.
"Uh HI (Y/N), KYOYA! WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING HERE?"
"Breathing." Kyoya says with a straight face.
"YEAH! I BET YOU GUYS ARE HAVING FUN TOO!"
"You would know since you've been fallowing us since we got here." I say with a shake of my head. "Sammie, Katie. Please turn that music off."
"NOBODIES HERE BUT ME!" Tamaki says and quickly shakes his head.
"Then you just decided to fall out of that bush?"
"I DIDN'T FALL!!! THOSE SHADY TWINS SHOVED ME THEN YOUR MEAN SISTERS KICKED ME OUT!!!" He shouts like a child and clings to Kyoya. "MOMMY!!! TELL THEM TO BEHAVE!!!" Kyoya is about to say something before I stand up and face the bush. "Please, allow me."
"All of you get out here now. And turn that damn music off" I command in a loud (motherly) tone. Everyone quickly stands up and I see fear flash through their eyes.
"Now. Would anyone care to explain why you are following us."
"Umm..."
"well..."
"Uh.."
"IT WAS HIS IDEA!!!" They all shout and point at Tamaki before diving behind the bush again.
"If that hiding place failed the first time then why would you hide there again!?!" I growl in frustration. "Because we are not the smartest people." Sammie says and ducks back inside it.
"Did you at least do your homework before following us?" I ask and pinch the bridge of my nose as Kyoya deals withe the host club.
"No." My sisters answer before shrinking even further into the bush.
"For the love of... I will let you off the hook this one time if you go home right now. Mr. Hichna will be arriving any day now. I don't want to give him any reason to think that I'm not fit for taking care of you. Now go home and do your homework. Please."
"Okay. But we invited the host club to spend the night."
"Fine. Now get home."
Kyoya's POV
"Why are you here? I understand helping (Y/N) get ready but why are you here?" I sigh and push up my glasses.
"We thought that you could use some help." Mori says.
"In case you all have some how forgotten I am also a host at our school. I think I can manage a simple date."
"If that's the case then why did (Y/N)'s sisters have to help you plan it and give you advice on how to talk to her." Honey giggles and hugs Usa-Chan.
"Because they know here better than I do. (Y/N) isn't just some random fangirl that we get all the time at the Music Room. She is different. Smart, funny, and actually uses her head for more than just shoe shopping."
"So you really have taken a liking to her." Haruhi says and gives me a knowing smile.
"No. What I'm saying is that she is harder to please than anyone of the other girls. She isn't impressed by just me smiling and saying that she looks nice."
"Then put some effort in it." "It can't be that difficult." the twins say and shrug their shoulders.
"Easy for you two to say." I grumble and look at her. "Her sisters were right. She is hard to read."
"Then learn." Tamaki dramatically groans and pushes me towards her. "The first step is always the hardest so you might as well get it over with." He whispers in my ear before they all fun off to meet up with Sammie and Katie.
"So what was their excuse?" I asks and hold her hand. My face heats up again and I have to turn my head so she doesn't see. But Her sisters and the others do. 'Damn it.'
"I didn't ask. Just sent them home to do their homework. If only that would actually happen. Oh and they invited the host club to spend the night. Fun."
"They aren't that bad."
"I already want to call bullshit on that."
"I didn't believe myself either. But at least they wont burn down your house."
"God I hope so. Then I would have to scold them." She jokes and gives me a small smile.
"So how about we go on that tall, wheeled ride over there?"
"You mean the Ferris Wheel?"
"Yes. That."
"I would love to." She laughs and we walk to the Ferris Wheel hand in hand. It seems that's how we've been walking all night.
1st POV
We are the last ones to get on and much like in a romance movie or book we get stopped at the very top. How ironic. Now when do the fire works start up? BOOM!! POP!! BANG!! So called it.
"They're beautiful." I whisper in awe even though I was just making jokes about them. I glance at Kyoya and I see a gorgeous purple rose. I look past it and see a blushing Kyoya.
"This rose pales in comparison to your beauty and comes no where close to representing my feelings for you, my princess."
I take the rose and smell it's sweet fragrance. I then turn to Kyoya and and raise any eyebrow. "I love the rose but Tamaki told you to say that didn't he."
"How could you tell?" He chuckles and looks me in the eyes.
"Not only is that not your style but I've heard him say that before in the club room. In truth I wasn't sure if I wanted to hit him or the girls."
"Why?"
"I wasn't sure who need me to knock more sense into them. Him for saying such silly lines or them for believing that he he loves them in a romantic way. Is it bad that I wish they would just wake up and face reality before it's too late?"
"No. I think it's you caring for a bunch of strangers and wanting to protect people. You can't protect everyone."
"I wish I could. I don't like seeing people get hurt because nobody prepared them for it. I know what that's like and it sucked. It still sucks sometimes."
"I understand what you mean. By the time you were fifteen you had given up going to school and started to raise your siblings and took over the company. It's a lot for someone to do and adjust to. I admire your courage and determination. You're quite brave. Even if you don't see it."
"Kyoya, thank you. You are the first person to listen and care about what I have to say that. It means so much to me."
"Whenever you need someone to listen I will always be there."
"And I'll be there for you." I lean over and kiss his cheek as we descend towards the ground. Kyoya simply blushes and holds my hand.
Once we are on the ground Kyoya calls his limo to get us and soon enough we are on the road.
"Do you think we could swing by my office? A new prototype gun arrived earlier and I though you might be interested in seeing since if I approve it then your families task force would be the first ones to have access to them."
"I must admit that would be interesting. And I am rather curious how you test them out. Alright, I don't see why not."
Kyoya tells the driver to head towards Bulls-eye Headquarters and then we continued to talk about random things until we reached my office. It takes fifteen minutes for us to reach the tall building. We step out of the limo and the head security guard meets us at the door.
"Ms. (Y/L/N). Welcome. What brings you here so late?" Mr. Shizna asks and opens the front door.
"Just some testing is all. We shouldn't be here for too long. I know you would like to get back to your card games with the boys soon." I joke and pat him on the shoulder as I walk through the lobby and towards the elevator. "But do me a favor and radio down to Max that I am coming down with a guest."
"Of course Ma'ma." He says and quickly radios Max.
Kyoya and I enter the elevator and I pull out my key card. Then an eye scanner pops up and I put my eye up to it. Kyoya gives me a strange look as the elevator begins it decent.
"Bet your wondering whats with the eye scanner."
"Among other things."
"I had it installed when someone swiped an employees key card and tried to break in for our prototypes. But luckily he had no idea about our other requirements to get further into the building."
"Such as?"
"Blood check."
"You have your employees's blood checked?"
"Yes. Not only to identify if that person has authorization to be down here but to also check their B.A.C. Can't have anyone drunk working on guns down here. It's a safety hazard."
"B.A.C?"
"Blood Alcohol Content. Anything above a 0.4 is denied access down here. Safety is my first priority of my employees."
"I see."
The elevator stops and opens up to a white hallway with a room at the far end with a bullet proof window and a doctor on the other side. A middle aged man in a white lab coat is sitting at his desk reading over employee medical files.
"Hey Max. Ready for us?" I ask and tap on the glass.
"Of course Ma'am . Just stick your arm in here and you'll be ready for entry. The same goes for your friend."
Kyoya and I stick your arms through the slots in the wall and Max takes a blood sample. Within moments we are granted entry and make our way through a door on the far end. We walked in silence till we came to another large door. This one reminded me of a prison. Another guard named Axil presses a button on the other side and the door pops open.
"Welcome to the testing department. This is where we design, create, and test our products. Right now we are working on several advance weapons for both the Military here and fro the U.S."
"That's impressive. But what about the ones for my family's police force?"
"It's more so an upgrade than anything. Making them lighter, easier to use, hold more ammunition, and less likely to jam. Minor upgrades that should be rather simple and yet tend to be more of a headache than anything else that I work with."
"I see. What have you tried so far?"
"Different metals, design, hell we even tried to make special bullets for them that would cause more damage to their targets."
"I take that it didn't go well?"
"Not for the police force but for me personally it worked out rather well. I was able to make the guns that my security team uses. Even I use it. Light weight, easy to conceal, and the damage is quite deadly."
"Why is that?"
"If you plan to shoot something then it should be used for making kill shots not just simply wounding them."
"Well that is one way of looking at it."
"Yes, and there a dozen other ways as well."
"Do you know what made you father want a company like this?"
"He told me that he wanted people to be able to protect themselves. "
"A Nobel thought."
"And it was America so..."
"Americans do love their guns." Kyoya jokes as we stop in front of a group of men.
"Got that right kid." One of them chuckles and opens another door for us. "The prototype is in the last locker Ma'am."
"Thanks Bobby."
We walk down to the last locker and collect the gun. As we head towards the shooting range we grab safety goggles and ear protectors. In truth I wanted to laugh for whatever reason.
"So you do know how to shoot, right?" Kyoya asks with nervousness peeking through his cool demeanor.
"Not at all. I just play pretend and act like I don't run this company." I roll my eyes and empty the whole magazine into the target. "It's going too far to the right. Going to need to fix that. Weight is acceptable, and it's easy to use. However the trigger is too sensitive. So much as bump it and it will go off." I mumble to myself and place it onto the table in the corner of the room.
"Have you ever shot a gun before Kyoya?" I ask as an idea pops into my head.
"Can't say that I have. Why do you ask?"
"Do you want to?"
"I'm sorry can you repeat that? It sounded like you just asked me if I wanted to shoot a gun."
"I did. You can use one of the pistols that we have. You wont be using a prototype if that's what you're worried about."
"Perhaps another time."
"Alright. Then we should probably get going. Who knows what those idiots are up to." I shake my head as I imagine the house being completely destroyed and the staff hiding away in horror. Who knows what those shady twins have done. SHIT, I SOUND LIKE TAMAKI!!!
We leave the building head back to my house. When we arrive everything seems normal enough. There are no fires or broken windows. So the outside is okay. No what about the inside? Kyoya walks me to the front door and chuckles to himself.
"What?"
"Nothing. I just found that I enjoyed tonight more than what I anticipated is all."
"I agree. I had fun. Thank you for tonight. I loved it."
He grabbed the back of my hand and kissed it. "I will see you at school, my princess. Good night."
"And to you as well, my prince." I smile and watch as he pulls away in his limo. A chorus of awwws comes from the windows. I turn and see not only my siblings and the host club but all of my staff standing at the windows.
"Enjoy the show?" I ask and make my way inside. Only to want to walk back out. Mattresses were strung through out the living room and Carter was on one at the top of the stairs with Alfred. And they were about to ride it down.
