You awake from your sleep, quickly squinting your eyes from the bright light that shone on your face from the window. You hide your face under your big blankets wanting to never get up again. You didn't feel like doing anything. Not even eating. Although you felt a little hungry, you couldn't swallow it due to how horrible you felt about the incident that happened a few days ago.
You could still see the bright light shine through your blankets, causing you to click your tongue in annoyance. You get up slowly, groaning as you do so. Your eyes swollen from all the crying you've been doing these past few nights. You shut the curtains and sigh. You could see your reflection in the mirror across the room and you didn't like what you saw. Unlike your usual appearance, your hair was a mess. Your eyes swollen and lifeless, and your once happy smile was turned into a frown.
You walk closer to the mirror and take some of your hair into your hands. You wanted to stay calm but that doesn't work out well. You breathe heavily as all the memories come flooding back all at once. You glare at yourself and finally burst after trying to hold it in.
"Fuck you, {BoyName}! Why!? Why!?" You yell out, tears threatening to fall from your eyes. Your breathing labors as your heart begins to hurt just from remembering what had happened the other day. You fall to your knees and sob, shaking violently as you did. You were alone in the darkness that was your room.
After a few minutes you take a deep breath, calming yourself down. You decide to brush your hair, untangling the knots that had formed from not taking care of it. It was something you used to take most care of. You had grown it out so that it reached a little bit above your waist. He liked it that way after all. Wanting to suit his taste you kept it that length for the time you were with him. This was something you regretted doing. You couldn't even look at it without feeling disgusted with both him and yourself.
Glancing at the time on your phone after brushing your hair and decide to visit a salon. Just the thought of looking at the hair you- or should I say he loved, only brought you more pain.
Not even bothering to change out of your sweats, you throw on a cap and head out of your bedroom and out the front door. Quickly searching your pockets for your keys you sigh and step back inside your house and grabbing the keys that were on the table in the entrance. You lock your door and make your way up the street where all the shops were located.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
You look around the various shops that surrounded the area near your apartment, searching for the hair salon that just opened up. Well, according to siri it did. You adjust your hat so that it could hide your face and block the sunlight. You had been indoors for a few days so you were still pretty sensitive to the light.
You find the place you were looking for and look through the glass window, you noticed that it was pretty much empty. However, there was someone sitting at the front desk.
You coudn't help but feel a little nervous. A part of you wanted to just stay home and let all your emotions out. But another part of you also wanted to do this. You needed to move on, and erase any trace of the one who ruined you. You give yourself a mini mental pep talk on why you should go in. After mustering up the courage to go in, you pull open the glass door. It opens easily and a soft chime fills your ears. You walk in, the door shutting closed slowly behind you and walk further in, taking in your surroundings. Various chairs lined on opposite ends of the area, along with wide mirrors that lay in front of the seats.
The man at the desk smiles "hello there miss. How can I help you today?" he greets you with a quick smile, his voice deep but welcoming . He is fairly tall with short black hair and glasses that framed his dark eyes. He was fairly good looking, but you could tell he was a bit older than yourself, but not too much.
Your voice trembles slightly as you respond to him "I-I want to get my hair cut" you say, almost inaudible. He nods at your words and steps out from behind the desk. "Follow me" he says as he leads you a little further into the salon. You follow slowly behind him, staring at his broad shoulders
He leads you to one of the chairs and you sit down on the leather seat. His foot steps on a pedal at the bottom of the chair, which results in it lifting your seat up so he wouldn't have to bend down while doing your hair.
You look at him through the mirror in front of you and watch as he puts on an apron. Which you assumed was so that none of your hair gets on his clothing. He inspects your hair and touches it, examining the way it looked and how healthy it was.
You sit there awkwardly as he inspects your hair, he looks into the mirror to look at your face. "How short would you like it? Do you have an idea yet?" He asks.
You think about it for a bit and nod. "Yeah, I want it to be very short. Almost like a male's haircut but still feminine enough" you respond. He listens to your words and smiles. "Just one second" he says as he walks over to the front desk and pulls out a magazine. He walks back to you and flips through it before stopping on a specific page.
"Like this?" He asks as he points to one of the models. It was exactly what you had in mind. "Yeah!" You say excitedly. He chuckles at your happy reaction, you couldn't help but feel embarrassed. But it felt nice. You were tired of feeling so worthless and sad all the time. For some reason he made you feel comfortable and relaxed.
"Alright... Er... What was your name?" He asks. "{YourName}."You reply. "My name is Hyūga, I'll be in your care" he responds. "I'll be in your care, Hyuga." you say softly.
He carefully brings your hair to the back and brushes it with care. Making sure he didn't hurt you. You watched his serious expression with curiosity as he worked his magic.
He reaches to the counter in front of you, pulling out thin metal scissors. You couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement as he brought them to your hair. You hear the sounds of snips and the feeling of your head starting to feel lighter and lighter from the lack of hair. You didn't realize how heavy it actually was. As soon as he got all around it he brought up the long strand of hair up, you could see it in the mirror, your eye widening in shock as you try grasp the situation. You couldn't believe this was actually happening.
"Your hair is very nice" he comments as he continues to cut it. "Thanks..." You respond. You felt anxious because of the silence between you two. Only the sounds of the scissors snipping against your hair was heard throughout the salon. No words were exchanged.
"Don't hairstylists normally talk to their costumers?" You wonder to yourself.
"You're... Not going to ask?" You question out loud. He lifts his head to look at you in the mirror, he raises a brow. "You mean about why you're cutting it?" He says "you want me to ask?"
You blush at his words and regret asking in the first place. "N-Never mind, sorry. That was weird of me" you say, cursing yourself for being so socially awkward.
He walks over to the counter in front of your chair and picks up a spray bottle. Now that your hair was cut up to your chin he was going to style it. "I'm just going to spray your hair with water, and then I'm going to cut it a bit more to shape it to your desired style" he says as he walks back to stand behind you.
🌸🌸🌸🌸
"So why did you decide to cut it?" He finally asks after awhile as he continues to do your hair. You almost forgot about the eirlier conversation. A smile forms on your face and you close your eyes. "Don't tell me it's because of a boy."
"Unfortunately it is." You reply with a bit of sadness in your tone. It was still a sensitive topic. You hated yourself for even bringing this up, but you had to talk about it now that you got Hyūga interested.
"Take your time dear, you look like you're about to cry." He says as he sprays your hair with the water and puts the bottle back on the counter. You watch closely as he cuts more of the hair in the back, leaving it longer on the front to frame your face.
"My boy- ex boyfriend." You correct yourself, taking a deep breath before continuing with your story. "He liked girls with long hair. And being the stupid and lovestruck girl I was, I kept it long for him." You say, trying your best not to cry. "But then... He left me for some other girl. Even though he told me he didn't want a relationship. He told me... The next day that he liked this other girl." You explain. You squeeze your eyes shut, trying your best not to cry. "Was I really that bad?" You sigh "I mean, I tried really hard to please him..." Your voice trails off and you open your eyes to find Hyūga looking at you through the mirror, a concerned expression plastered on his face.
"What an asshole." Responds Hyuga as he brushes through strands of your hair, stopping near the ends and trimming it. "You don't need that in your life. You're a young and charming girl." He says.
"Yeah, he really is one. So when I looked at my long hair, all I could think of was him. I don't want him to control my life. I want to control it myself." You respond.
After he finished trimming the other side of your hair. He blowdries your hair, while he uses a flat iron to help style it in a way that suit your face shape. "And..." He says as he brings a stand of hair back into place, "we're done." He says as he reaches over to unplug the flat iron.
You gasp as you look at the finished result. A big smile forms on your face as you run your fingers through your short, soft locks of hair. Hyūga sweeps up the strands of hair from the floor and casts a glance in your direction. Feeling a wave of satisfaction and happiness from seeing how pleased you were with the results.
"Thank you so-" you say as you quickly turn around, only to be face to face with the slightly taller male. Your face heats up and you shrink back from him. Creating distance between the two of you. "T-Thanks" you say quietly.
"It was my pleasure, {YourName}." He replies. The two of you walk back to the front desk and you give him the money, along with a generous tip.
"Thanks for everything Hyūga, I love it." you say happily. "I'm glad you do. Make sure to come back often for touch ups" he says as he puts the money in the cash register. "Will do!" You smile and turn to leave.
You wave goodbye but before you exit through the door you turn back to face him. "I-I might not come back only for my hair. Only if that's okay though." You stutter as you put on your hat. You bring the front part down, trying to hide your red face from him.
He smiles at your words and pushes up his glasses. "I look forward to your next visit, {YourName}" he says as he picks up his magazine, trying to hide his growing smile by pretending to read through it.
"I feel the same way, Hyūga. See you soon." you respond before exiting. He watches through the window as you walk past the store with a smile on your face. It was as if the scared and heartbroken girl from before was transformed into a charming and confident lady.
