Chapter 2
"Welcome to Kuriko's Fantasy Home for Special Children!"
Endou stared in amazement at the place. While it was a replica of the island, the state of it was clearly better than of the real world. The mansion in the middle of the island was strong and glistening white in the evening sun, the land was clear of overgrowing plants, and instead, trimmed nicely. But the most amazing thing was the children who were outside.
Endou spotted books floating in the air and when the girl who was standing among them picked one of them, frost glazed over the book; another boy was flying in the air with the help of air currents and much, much more.
"Wow!" Endou said in amazement.
"Come, come. We have much to discuss and we are wasting daylight." Yuko led him by the shoulder into the house and brought him to her office. "Right, where do we start?"
"How-what is this place!? How can I pass through that tree trunk-Oh and why are those children like-!"
"Like Arata and Reika." Yuko calmly finished for him, cutting off his rambling. "Seeing as you are done with your questions, I'll answer them in order." She said, taking a seat on the couch in the room, gesturing for Endou to do the same on the couch opposite of her.
"To answer your first question, we are still on the island, but in a pocket dimension." Yuko explained.
"Pocket dimension?"
"Yes." Yuko nodded. "In certain areas around the world, there will be pocket dimensions, mirrors of the area you are in in the real world but inaccessible by mere people. We, the special people, hide in these pocket dimensions from the world where they won't accept us for who we are. And to get inside these dimensions, we need entry gates. The oak tree that we came in through is one of the entry gates"
"Eh?" Endou frowned. "But why must you hide in the pocket dimensions?"
Yuko's eyes dropped at that. "...That will be something I will explain on a later date. However, to satisfy your curiosity, I can tell you this, if people knew what we are, they will not hesitate to destroy us for they fear what they cannot control."
Endou kept quiet for he did not completely understand what Yuko said but he could relate to their situation to what the victims of Garshield. They had gone through a lot of situations which hurt them physically and mentally all because that man wanted total control over them.
"Anyway, enough of that. Tell me, how is Daisuke?" Yuko brushed off to the next topic. "He seldom visits now and his letters are getting rarer and rarer."
"You know jii-chan?" Endou said in surprise.
"Of course." Yuko nodded. "Otherwise, how would I know to expect you the moment you stepped onto the island? If you must know, he is a special child like all of us."
Endou was visibly surprised by that. "Eh!? But he..."
"Grew up outside of the pocket dimension." Yuko answered. "But this is not uncommon. The children here have a choice of whether to remain here to be safe, or to continue their 'normal' lives in the real world. And your grandfather chose the latter." She said with a hint of disdain. "So, how is he?"
"He's doing great." Endou grinned but then it fell. "It was only recently I found out that he is alive after everyone believed him to be dead for forty years..."
Yuko gave him a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry to hear that. I tried to convince him that the 'pretending-to-be-dead' thing was a tad overboard. But as usual, his stubbornness meant that whatever I said will not be registered in his brain. But still, he sometimes risked exposing himself by coming back here to visit. And when he found out that the island was going to be on sale by the person who previously owned it, he jumped the chance to buy it in order to ensure that no one will find out about our presence here on the island."
Yuko glanced out of the window and smiled. "I think we are done for now. Why don't you go out and play soccer with the other children? Now is their practice time."
Endou perked up at that and his goofy grin formed on his mouth. "Sure!"
Yuko nodded and called over her shoulder. "Arata!"
In an instant, the red haired appeared at the door of the office. "You called, Yuko-nee?"
"Bring Endou down to the field. Let him get to know the others." Yuko told him.
"Of course." Arata grinned and went over to Endou as he stood up. "Come on! It'll be fun."
"You don't need to tell me that twice." Endou's grin only grew as he followed him.
As they walked along to corridors to get down to the field, Arata spoke, "I'm sorry for scaring you just now. We are very cautious when people step on the island though that rarely happens ever since Endou-san bought it."
"You know my grandfather too?" Endou said curiously.
"Everyone does." Arata said with a fond smile. "It was thanks to him that we have soccer. Before this, we never had anything like it. Don't worry. Everyone will like you once they hear that you're Endou-san's relative and you play soccer. I still remember that when he was in his late teens, Endou-san and I would play like never before! I couldn't get a point past him for years."
"Jii-chan sure was strong back then...Wait, what!?" Endou finally realized what Arata meant. "Jii-chan...in his late teens...but you are..."
"A hundred and fifty years old." Arata chuckled. "I may look like a teen but that's my age. I take it that Yuko-nee forgot to tell you that the pocket dimensions are timeless, meaning, we don't age as long as we stay in it."
"Unbelievable." Endou shook his head.
Arata merely smiled. "It's hard to believe it but you are considered to be the youngest here, considering the youngest special child before you is only 99 years old. Well, here we are."
Arata came to a stop at the glass door and pushed it open, revealing the field and all the other children playing soccer. They were wearing black soccer jerseys and pants with white linings and a logo of the house on the right corner.
"Arata!" Reika greeted when she saw him and Endou. Immediately, everyone stopped playing and gathered around to meet the newcomer.
"Everyone, I would like to introduce you to Endou Mamoru, Endou-san's grandson." Arata introduced him to his friends.
"Wouldn't it be troublesome if we have to call him Endou and we already call him grandfather Endou-san?" A boy with messy brown hair and black underside, tied in a ponytail asked. He also has black color eyes.
"You're right." Arata mused and glanced at Endou. "Do you mind if we call you by your first name?"
"Not at all." Endou shook his head, not minding it at all.
Arata nodded and introduced the children. There was Mia, a pretty girl whose specialty is ice, meaning she can control snow and ice, and her twin, Muraku, a polite boy with the specialty of shadows. There was also Daimen, controller of air; Nick, a handsome, older teen who can control plants; his girlfriend and Mia and Muraku's cousin, Maya, who happens to be a controller of ice too. And lastly, the one who spoke just now, Wataru, whose specialty is to make him intangible. But they were the more normal looking ones.
There were several others whom Endou had to do a double take. There was a dark haired girl with bright green eyes named Diana but she was wearing large, metallic boots which must weigh a lot judging from how awkward she was walking. Arata explained that she literally weights nothing at all so she needed the boots to keep her grounded or she would continuously float up.
And there were two other twins, Margret and Mark who were wearing strange white masks. The only way to discern who is who is by the hair length of their blond hair. Again, Arata explained that they don't talk at all to anyone except for themselves. When Endou asked how can they talk with those masks on, Arata merely said telepathy.
And lastly, the strangest of them all, was a boy who is invisible, with only his clothes visible. Arata introduced him as Mitsuko. No one knows what he actually looks like, not even himself.
"And you already know Reika." He nodded at his sister. "And so, every one of us, excluding Diana, are the Fantasy Eleven. Since you are here, Mamoru-san, we can play a six-on-six match for practice today. You're a goalkeeper, right?"
"That's right." Endou nodded in affirmation.
"Great." Reika grinned. "You can take my team! Nick is usually the goalkeeper and he only plays for Arata's team. It's not fair!"
"You know that Maya would freak if that happened." Arata muttered and whispered to Arata. "Maya is overly possessive of Nick. The first time Reika came here, she accidentally spilt coffee on Nick and Maya immediately assumed her to be flirting with him. That's why I have to put Reika on a separate practice team from them to prevent more misunderstandings."
"Oh..." Endou sweatdropped. But he reassumed his grin and patted the ball he picked up. "Anyway, let's play soccer!"
Everyone looked at him in mild surprise and then grinned, raising their fist. "Yeah!"
They ran back to the field and assumed their positions, Arata and Reika each having a captain band. Diana on the other hand, stayed at the sidelines. On Arata's team, there were Daimen, Nick, Maya, Mitsuko and Muraku. On Reika's team, there were Endou, Mia, Wataru, Margret and Mark. Arata's team started the kick off with Maya and Daimen.
"Let's go!" Maya smirked and dashed forward with Daimen following closely.
"Defense!" Reika called. Instantly, the silent twins moved to intercept Maya by following her moves closely. Reika had even marked Daimen so that she could not pass the ball to him.
"Here!" Mitsuko called, having moved up.
Maya instantly passed the ball to him and passed the silent twins when they were distracted by the pass. Mitsuko quickly passed the ball back to her as Wataru tried to do a sliding tackle to get the ball. With Maya free, she smirked and kicked the ball into the air.
"Icicle Torment!"
