She had nothing, almost literally,
but she also wanted nothing

It was a terrifying and lonely feeling—that began to take over her being for the next few days. The weight of her chest forced her body to shake as salted tears flooded her vision like they did almost every night.

We lied together as she would grasp onto my arm the color of her hand became a pale white. Night terrors brought her awake as she gasped for air to calm her emptiness.

"Gladyce please I'm here." I would say as she would choke on her own tears. I pushed myself up as I quickly turned on the lamp illuminating the room. The other girls woke up sleepily in their beds rushing quickly to surround her shaking figure.

"What was it about this time?" Marisol comforted.

I watched as her eyes closed tightly making her damp lengthy lashes curl under the force. Multiple of tears dispersed down her red cheeks. Her signature birthmark glowing from the wetness and the bright yellow hue.

"I miss Cassidy." she choked burying her head in my chest.

We would wrap our arms around her as she rested in our hold. Knowing that it will bring comfort temporarily, but the terrors would repeat again.

On the days we were forced to work around the mansion it began to get difficult. Our early morning breakfast consisting of fried eggs and toast were freshly prepared on the table. We sat surrounding each other in silence eating our food as Taehyung's voice startled us all making the scraping of the metal utensils on the dining ware come to a halt.

"Gladyce you've been sitting here for moments and haven't taken a bite." He would say as he used his napkin to wipe the sides of his mouth.

I watched as her fork raked the eggs along the plate. She frowned as she slammed the silverware unto the table.

"I don't want to eat sir." She spoke deeply. Taehyung gently shrugged his shoulders as he took a bite of toast.

"Very well then, don't eat." he spoke and so she wouldn't. Darla walked towards her as she picked up her plate and disposed of her food and Gladyce excused herself from breakfast and treaded up the stairs.

"She hasn't eaten in days." Irving whispered making Taehyung furrow his eyebrows.

"When she's hungry she will." He spoke uncaringly.

"She's In despair... Do something!" Genevieve shouted across the room.

"Surely if her sister didn't try to escape she'd still be alive. It was a dumb decision on her twins part." He bit back.

The room would suddenly drift to silence as we continued breakfast. We couldn't expect him to care, we knew he didn't have the ability to.

We were foolish to believe she would learn to cope and foolish to think that her abduction had prepared her for this.

Her outburst became violent as time would pass by. She sat crisscrossed alone in the parlor as we would make our way outside to enjoy the final days of the fall.

"Gladyce, come outside the weathers nice we're having tea." Irving urged as she tugged on her elbow. Forcefully pulling back Gladyce shoved her away.

"Leave me alone! I can't stand any of you!" she screamed as she stood up.

"You don't mean that—" Marisol reasoned.

"I hate it here! I hate everyone. you let her die you all let her die!" she panted grabbing the closest thing visible. The vintage vase sat still until she forced it to the marble floor.

The loud crashing sound sent shards of the vase around the room. Dropping to the floor in a crying panic she didn't care for the vases remains as they stabbed unto her delicate skin.

"Gladyce please." I spoke as I walked towards her helping her up from the ground. She wrapped her shaking limbs around me as she sobbed loudly.

"I can't do this anymore." she spoke as her tears dampened my clothing. I buried my face unto her neck and rubbed her back slowly.

"I'm so sorry," I whispered.

Knowing that it was once again my fault for bringing pain to others. I should've never helped Cassidy try to escape. I should've focused on the outcome and understand that escaping this place had a death toll.

The beat of our hearts would slow down painfully at the borderline of despair and freedom. Some of our hearts are slowing down before reaching it.

Surviving was the toughest challenge.

Laying down on my back I stared at the ceiling. The darkness of my bedroom enclosed me as I slipped into deep thought.

Without her warmth to comfort me, I began to take longer to sleep. She chose to rest with the dolls instead when I needed her most.

Reaching my right arm to the side table I felt for the lone cigarette that stood still. Grabbing it I sat upright as I exited the room. Maybe a midnight smoke will help me rest quicker.

The evening was cool as the dark blue sky flooded with stars. I shivered as a gust of win drifted by me bringing chills to my body. The moon did more illuminating than usual as it finally showed off its fullness.

I began to walk to the lake, hoping to see the beautiful reflection of the moon and stars on the large body of water.

A figure stood in front of me. Their short stature with white pale legs at the edge of the bank as their light brown hair flowed with the wind.

"Why are you up so late?" I spoke firmly as they quickly turned with bloodshot eyes.

"I-I" she panted, her thin white nightgown hanging loose on her body as the straps fell down her shoulders. I looked at her face the tears dampened her cheeks where her birthmark was imprinted. Her nose was running as her small plump lips took in quick breaths of air.

Exactly like the day, I saw her.

I glanced down her body as I saw the black metal handgun rested in her right hand. Swinging with her finger on the trigger.

"What were you planning Gladyce where did you get that gun?"

"I- f-found it in your room. I-I" She stuttered.

"You were lurking and you plan to do what?" I questioned.

"I want to die." she cried.

"Hand me the gun Gladyce, you don't mean that." I demanded.

"I miss Cassidy she's not here! We did everything together." she panted as she slowly lifted her right hand.

"Let this be the time your free. You don't have to follow your sisters' rules, wasn't it her words that both got you here in the first place?"

"I agreed, we decided together we'd follow you. She said it was a good idea, we were lost you told us you'd help us and you didn't!"

"Gladyce please give me the gun."

"I don't want to be here anymore."

"Gl-"  I spoke as the loud sound of the gun firing radiated the silence of the night. Her right hand dropped the gun as her left hand rushed to cover her wounded torso. The blood soaked through her nightgown as it covered the pale skin of her palm while she stumbled backward.

I gasped slightly as I watched her dying body sink into the large body of water. I stepped forward grabbing the gun from the edge of the bank. Frowning at its evil deeds.

They were both such precious dolls, a diverse collection I was very proud of. Such a delicate amount of perfection I decided to keep both. Foolishly Gladyce could not live properly without Cassidy by her side. She could not think for herself and lived her life following her twins footsteps which ended in her own demise.

Feeling an eerie feeling within me I glanced at the lone cigarette in my hand. Breaking it in half I dropped it to the ground stepping on it as I made my way back to the mansion.

This makes me super sad 😔.
