Chapter 52
Annabeth's POV
I was walking along the beach when I came across Jessie, Percy's little brother. I sat down beside him and looked at the waves.
"I saw you, in my dreams," He said. "When I first came to camp, I started dreaming scenes from Percy's life, though I didn't know it at the time."
"When he watched you die, I could feel his pain, it was unbearable."
I didn't know what to say.
"When I trained with him, I could tell he was holding something back, like he was afraid to get close to anyone. I don't think he's ever going to be able to forgive himself," Jessie said, throwing a rock out.
"Do you forgive him?" I asked.
"What?" He looked up. "I mean, he didn't tell me he was my brother, and he's indirectly responsible for my mom's death, but he did try to make things right. I suppose someday I'll be able to, just not quite yet."
"Do you forgive him?" A voice asked from behind us. I looked back and saw him. Without the mask, looking just like I remembered, except for the sadness in his eyes.
"For what? Trying to get revenge for me? And then saving me and my friends?" I asked, "Chaos was right, you were a prisoner of the Titans, but now you're free, and you're trying."
He smiled, "Does that mean, there could still be a chance for us?"
I smiled back, "I don't know, are you willing to give up your sea kingdom?"
"I'm willing to give up whatever it takes, just to see you smile and be happy," He replied. Then he pulled something out of his pocket.
"I meant to give this to you after campfire that night, all those years ago, but never got the chance," He said, as he held out a box. Inside was the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. A beautiful grey owl with small sapphires for its eyes.
"Percy," I said looking at his face. He was afraid I might still say no.
"Yes, a million times yes!" I said, happier than I thought I could ever be again.
"Congrats," Jessie said. I'd forgotten he was still here.
"Jessie, I'm sorry, about what I said about not needing a brother-,"
"It's fine," Jessie cut him off. Grover told me about Tyson. I'm not him.
"No," Percy smiled. "But you are still my brother, and you're going to be a great hero."
"Going to be? I believe I already am. Killing a Giant at 13, that's something even you can't say," Jessie grinned, "One day I'll be even better then you."
Percy smiled sadly, "Well, recently that hasn't been a high bar."
"Hey," I said, "Don't be too hard on yourself, you were grieving. You did the right thing in the end, even if it was hard."
"She's right, you made the right call when it mattered," Jessie said, "Don't spend the rest of your life blaming yourself for everything, live your life."
"I'm a Titan now, I have eternity to blame myself."
"Not on my watch you don't," I argued. "Now come on, I have to show Thalia this ring."
So we left, to start our new life together, without Gods and Titans and Evil Earth Mothers. Well except for Chaos and Percy, I guess they technically count.
The End. I finally did it! It only took me five years......oops. I hope you enjoyed it. I tried going back and editing it but if I missed something or something doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to go back and fix it. I haven't been as active on Wattpad much in recent years so I might not see it for awhile.
If you haven't already, you should check out my Betrayed Son of the Sea story, it's a little more of the typical chaos story. I wrote it 5 years ago back when I was still in school so it's not the best. I might go back and clean it up too sometime, but that would take some time i don't actually have right now.
I hope you're all staying safe during this Coronavirus time. Wash your hands, stay away from other people, and just keep reading stories here on Wattpad if you're finding you have too much time on your hands!
