Chapter 34

Annabeth's POV

I breathed a sigh of relief when he took off his mask. I had been worried that I was wrong and that it actually was Percy.

But thankfully, the man in front of me wasn't him. This man had bright red hair and brown eyes, nothing like Percy's beautiful green ones.

"Happy?" He growled.

"I still don't know if you impersonated him or not," I insisted, even though I was positive of the answer.

"I have never claimed to be Percy Jackson, perhaps you have been hearing of him because he is still alive."

"No," I denied. Percy was not still alive. Percy would never help the Titans, it wasn't Percy.

"And what makes you so sure of that?" He asked as he put his mask back on.

"I was his girlfriend; I knew him better than anyone else. Percy Jackson would never betray his family; he would never help you."

"Me?"

"The Titans, Percy would never help you."

"And what if he did?" The man asked.

What if Percy did? I don't know. What would I do if the man I had known and loved for years, the one I waited for in Elysium, decided to join the enemy?

"It doesn't matter; Percy would never do that. His fatal flaw is loyalty!" I shouted the last part, frustrated with everyone; Luke, Grover, and myself for thinking there was even a possibility that Percy would betray his family.

"Believe whatever you want, but the truth will remain the same," The man said, before disappearing in front of my eyes.

I couldn't move. I still had too many unanswered questions in my head, and no one to answer them. Luke and Grover hadn't lied had they? Or the Titan? Maybe they were both telling the truth and it was someone else pretending to be Percy. I hate not knowing anything.

I finally managed to make my way to a bench and sit down. I closed my eyes for a moment and just breathed.

"Well what do we have here?" I heard a voice ask.

I opened my eyes to yet another blade at my throat. I think I'm starting to notice a theme.

Chaos's POV

"You wish to speak to me?" The boy asked from behind me as I poured myself a drink.

"Yes, I do hope you don't mind me making myself at home, but there was no one here," I said as I turned around to face him.

"I was busy."

"Yes, I heard about that, did you tell her?" I asked, noticing his mask was gone.

"No, she thought I was impersonating Percy Jackson, so I had to show her I wasn't him."

"Maybe you should tell her who you really are, stop hiding behind the disguises," I suggested.

"Maybe I will, maybe I won't," He retorted.

"There is a war going on, they are ready to fight You, and you are acting like a child," I scolded him.

"What do you want me to do?"

"Release the Gods, do what you have to do to get them out. Then they won't be mad at you anymore, you could return to the camp," I suggested.

He needed to release the Gods, or else the world really would be doomed. Sure, they had their problems, but they still did their jobs. Without them the world would destroy itself.

"Why is it always about the Gods?" He shouted, startling me and causing me to drop my drink, my precious life-giving Mountain Dew. I could feel the room shaking with his anger.

"Does everyone forget how useless the Gods were? They only cared about themselves! They just used everyone to solve their problems!"

"And without someone in power, everyone fights for it, wanting to rule the world themselves. Without a ruler, the skies, the seas, the earth, the dead and so much more are left to govern themselves. Do you really want the dead to join the world of the living?" I asked, before adding," Don't answer the last question, you know it wouldn't be a great idea."

"Then why do you do it?" He asked as he sat down, his temper starting to cool.

"I don't let them stay on Earth long, I don't let them stay on any planet long. Typically they don't interact with people from their past lives. Most importantly, I give them the choice to join if they want, I don't make them."

After a moment I tried again," Will you let them out?"

For a minute I thought I had won, he was thinking about it and I thought I could see him starting to agree with me, but he proved me wrong when he glared at me with a determined look and answered, "No."

He suddenly disappeared before I could argue with him anymore. Sighing, I teleported myself back to my palace. What was I going to do about him? He was destined to save Olympus, but how can he save it when he was the one who destroyed it?
