Chapter 23
Annabeth's POV
Grover. I had just run into Grover. I didn't think he was still alive.
"I'm sorry," He said, bowing his head a little. I remembered at the last minute that I was supposed to act like a stranger. I managed to nod my head in reply.
"It's okay, I should have been watching were I was going."
"Well, watch next time, and I will too, Goodbye," He said with a smile and a wave. I waved back.
He continued on his way back to the main part of camp. I just stood there for a minute. Eventually I made my way down to the beach and just sat on the sand.
Grover was alive. Grover was alive!
He hadn't been seen for a while before the third Titan war, and everyone had assumed him dead. He must have survived somehow. He had survived and found his way to the camp. Him and Chiron were lucky, not many others survived and found their way to us here.
If Grover was alive, was Juniper alive too? I hoped so, it would be terrible if she had died. Though her tree would have to be alive for her to be. I wonder if it was still standing, or if the Titans had destroyed it.
"Annabeth," I heard someone say in my head. It startled me; I was still getting used to the mind messaging.
"Annabeth," The same voice said again, this time I recognized it as Thalia's," You need to attend the meeting remember? "
I had completely forgotten about that. I couldn't go to a meeting like this.
"I'm sorry Thals, I can't go right now, I need some time alone," I replied, hoping she would understand.
"Fine," She replied quickly.
I made a mental note to thank her later. Right now, though I just wanted to stare at the sea. It reminded me so much of Percy. Sometime soon after I drifted off to a dream filled sleep.
Jessie's POV
I woke up in the middle of a forest with no idea how I got there. The last thing I remembered was Glitter holding a sword to Kronos' neck. We had won an impossible battle.
Glitter had been training me for months. Eventually he had decided that I was as good as I was going to be, and we started planning.
He did most of the planning, leaving me in the makeshift arena to practice on the dummies. Eventually he let me in on the plan. It was a simple plan, travel to California, Sneak onto Mount Othrys, and kill and banish the Titans. Simple right?
I had worried about how we got onto Othrys, but he had said to leave that to him.
I still remember the day we attacked. Some parts are hazy, but others clear. I started thinking back to that day.
"Put this on," He said.
"What is it?" I asked, looking at the empty space between his hands," There's nothing there."
"It's an invisibility cloak. Got it on a trip to England, some kid lost it," He explained.
"You stole it from a kid?" I asked, wondering who Glitter was. I hadn't managed to get him to open up to me in the last few months. I know next to nothing about him. I only know that he isn't the kindest person. For all I know he could have beaten up the kid, or even killed him to get the cloak. I don't know much about cloaks, but I'm assuming those things aren't exactly easy to come by.
"Yeah, they aren't that hard to get where he's from. His parents will just buy him a new one."
"You're just assuming they have that money?" I asked shocked. Even if it's not too hard to find it surely has to cost a bit.
"I told you, they're not that expensive. Besides, if the family can afford to send him to a castle for school then I think they can afford to buy their son a new invisibility cloak."
"Fine," I grumbled, taking something out of his hands. I didn't like it, but I needed it.
The material felt like silk. When I put it on I could see through it. It was like a veil. I started to take it off before I heard Glitter's voice," Don't"
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because we're going." Was all he said before he grabbed my arm again and teleported us onto Othrys.
I stumbled as we landed. How had he done that?
"Who are you?" A man asked, snapping to attention.
"You know who I am," Glitter spoke, his voice cold.
"Why are you here?" The guard next to him asked. Did he sound almost nervous?
"Why, I thought I was allowed to visit whenever I wished," His voice taking on an almost mocking tone.
"You vanished, everyone believed that you didn't wish to be associated with the Titans anymore. You are not just here for a visit." Another man said as he came out of the room the men were guarding.
"You're right, I'm not just here for a social call. I came to speak to Kronos." Glitter replied.
"I'm afraid you're going to have to wait. He has an important meeting. He might be willing to talk to you in about an hour." The man said. He also seemed nervous. Like being this close to Glitter was something to be afraid of.
"Tell him I'm here. I'll take a walk, and when I get back, he better be willing to see me." Glitter demanded before walking out of the room. I almost had to run to catch up with him.
Once we were outside and out of earshot of anyone, he started talking, "Okay, the plan is, when I get in there you are going to take out as many people as you can, but you are going to leave Kronos to me. Take out the biggest threat first."
"Not counting Kronos I'm assuming?" I asked.
"Yes, not counting him," Glitter sounded annoyed. Maybe I should be careful with my words.
"How do they know you? How did we suddenly get here? Who are you?" I asked all my questions at once. Okay, maybe that wasn't being careful, but I really wanted to know!
"I used to work with them, and you so kindly named me Glitter," He said, his voice again cold.
"I only named you Glitter because you wouldn't tell me your name," I explained, trying not to get scared at his tone. Glitter was not the type you wanted to make mad. He radiated power.
"I don't have a name anymore."
"How did you teleport us here?" I asked instead, trying to change the topic.
"I have powers, I used them."
I decided to drop it. With every word he spoke, I could sense his annoyance growing.
"So, are you ready?" he asked finally.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I said.
"Then let's storm the castle."
I was startled out of my thoughts by a sound in the bushes," Who's there?" I called out as I pulled my sword out.
A man and a woman appeared, bows at the ready. They looked as startled as me.
"Who are you?" The woman asked narrowing her eyes," What are you?"
"My name's Jessie, who are you?" I asked, ignoring the second question for the moment.
"First, what are you?" The Woman demanded. I guess she wanted to make sure I was no monster, assuming they were demigods. They could be something else. I have no idea how long I had been out. Did we succeed? Was Kronos destroyed? Were the Gods free?
I decided to take a chance and tell the truth," I'm a demigod."
The woman looked surprised. The man looked like he already had that figured out.
"I'm Will Solace, and this is Mandy Brown. We're both kids of Apollo," The man, Will, decided to speak.
I recognized the name Apollo as one of the Gods Glitter had taught me about. I didn't know if they were Greek or Roman though, and Glitter had said to always know. Because while sometimes the two groups will get along, more often than not they resort to fighting, and you don't want your new friends to turn on you.
"Greek or Roman?" I asked.
"We're both Greeks, but a few of our sibling back at Camp would call themselves Roman," Mandy explained. She seemed to be warming up to me now that she knew I was a demigod.
"Who's your parent?" Will asked as they started walking away. I ran to join them.
"I don't know, we couldn't figure it out. I need him to claim me still."
"We? Someone was with you?" Mandy asked, suspicion in her eyes.
"Yeah, Glitter," I trailed off. Where was Glitter? Why hadn't he come to find me? Did they capture him?
I needed to know if we were successful or not," Are the Gods back?"
"What?" Will asked, the question taking him by surprise.
"No, what do you know about them and the Titans?" Mandy asked, her tone sounding more curious than suspicious.
"Glitter and I, we attacked Mount Othrys. We were winning I think, He had a sword at Kronos' throat. Then I woke up here. I don't remember anything else."
"You and some girl attacked the Titans?" Mandy asked.
"Glitter's not a girl, he's a guy," I came to his defense.
"The boy did say he," Will told his sister.
"Why is a guy named Glitter?"
"He wouldn't tell me his real name, so I made one up."
"That certainly sounds suspicious." Will said, sharing a look with Mandy.
"Where are we?" I asked, wanting to change the subject.
"A little ways away from Mount Othrys, and the Titans are gone." Will answered.
"That's good right?" I asked, not understanding the looks on their faces.
"Not exactly, we don't know who defeated them. It sounds like you and this Glitter guy did, but what happened to Glitter? The Gods are trapped in Tartarus still, so you two should be the rulers, and we need a ruler. If there is no one ruling, then Nature will destroy itself as there would be no one for it to answer to. It would be a free for all." Mandy explained.
"Why aren't the Gods back? Glitter said he would be able to release them after we defeated the Titans!" I cried in frustration. He didn't lie to me, right? He wouldn't do that to me would he?
"This Glitter person might not be who you think he is," Mandy suggested.
"What? You think he wanted this? You think he wanted to get the Titans out of power and then leave the Earth to be destroyed?" I shouted this time.
"Calm down, let's get you back to camp. There we can figure out what's happening," Will reassured me.
"Why did you come in the first place?" I asked.
"Some friends of ours, they had heard from a source that the Titans were gone, we came to check it out. It appears they were right," Will explained. Mandy was ignoring me, she seemed deep in thought.
"Great, so how do we get back to Camp?" I asked. I didn't want to go back to that place, it was most likely the same place from months ago, but I needed to. Someone needed to prove that Glitter did nothing wrong, and that someone was going to be me.
