Chapter 22

Annabeth's POV

After all these years, Father thought it was time for the demigods to go back to Earth. We were to join them of course. The demigods were much more powerful than before they came here, but we were still more powerful, by a lot.

The plan was for all of the new campers to settle into the new camp, before we attack the Titans. We still need to come up with a plan for attack, but we have the element of surprise. It's been years on Earth since they defeated the Gods, they will be confident that no one is going to challenge them.

We had settled in with only a few problems easily solved. The demigods already here had set the camp up nicely, and with the help of a few Chaos soldiers they even had several cabins up for everyone. It almost felt like home.

"Architect!" Luke yelled, getting my attention.

I had been enjoying my lunch before Luke so rudely interrupted my meal and thoughts. I suppose he wants to talk about the plans, but I don't understand why he couldn't have waited two minutes until I was done eating.

"What?" I asked as I got closer.

"Not here," He looked around, almost as if he was nervous. That's when I started to worry. Luke never gets nervous, that's just not him. Not unless it's bad.

We walked to the Chaos cabin, where everyone in the army had gathered. It looked like no one else knew what was going on, only Luke.

"What are we here for Luke?" Rocky demanded," What's so important that it couldn't wait until the meeting with the campers?"

"Chaos just messaged me. There's a problem. We came here to fight the Titans and release the Gods, well, orders have changed."

"What? Why?" Everyone asked at once.

Luke waited for everyone to be quiet before he continued," The Titans have fallen."

We all stared at him in shock. This was good right? Our mission had been to put them back in their place, Tartarus. Then it dawned on me.

"Who defeated them?" I asked in a voice barely above a whisper.

"We don't know. Father couldn't tell me. He was reluctant at first, and then when I managed to convince him to tell me who he thought it might have been, the connection was cut off. I tried to call back, but it wouldn't work." Luke explained.

"So even Father doesn't know who the new threat is?" Thalia asked the question that was probably the most worrisome. The threat must be extremely powerful to fool him. No one before had managed to, not even Gaea could fool him.

"No, he had a suspicion though, he just couldn't tell me."

"Wouldn't the new threat take over once he defeated the Titans?" Ethan asked. He was right. The new threat, whoever they were, would take over the world. After all, there would be no one to stop him from doing whatever he wanted.

"That's the weird thing, why haven't we heard from them yet? Is it possible they defeated the Titans but didn't want to rule?" Luke asked.

"Maybe, but we should give it time before we jump to a conclusion like that. It could be that he isn't like Kronos and just takes a little time before announcing himself as king. Especially if he tries to keep the mortals from knowing about our world." Bianca suggested.

"Whatever the case, we shouldn't worry the campers about this yet. Let's give it a few days before we tell them, maybe after we find out who they are." Luke suggested.

"Should we tell Chiron?" I ask. I had heard that he disappeared during the battle, but he showed up when the camp here was built. When the battle had ended, he had run to Florida where his relatives lived, I think, or something like that. I was so glad to see that he was okay I didn't pay much attention to the words he was saying. In a dream he had seen our camp, so he started making his way to it.

"I'm not sure, he would want to tell at least some of the campers. I don't think we should," Ethan spoke up. All around the room people were either nodding or shaking their heads. Ethan had a point, Chiron would want to tell him, but I hated keeping things from him. It was hard enough keeping my identity a secret, how could I keep a secret like this from him?

Whoever defeated the Titans were more powerful, and possibly worse than them. They could be good and possibly even better than the Gods, but in the real world we live in, it was more likely that they were evil. But if they didn't stay in power, if they did what Luke suggested, then we would defiantly be in trouble.

You see, with no one in control of the elements, and basically the world, everyone sees it as a free for all. No one is in command, there are no rules. Some will try to get the throne, so they can be King, or Queen. Others will just love the thought of chaos, and not good Chaos like Father. No one would be in control of anything, so even the sea might rebel. No one would be controlling it; it could do as it pleased. With no one keeping the dead in Hades, the dead could live again. It's all a mess with no rules of nature holding the world together.

That was it! With the Titans gone there was no one torturing Percy in the Underworld. If no one was in control, then the dead could come back to life. Percy could come back to life. If there really was no one in control I could get Percy out of the Underworld. We would have to rescue the Gods first, but I'm sure Luke and Thalia wouldn't mind if I also got Percy out. He could even join the army with us!

I must have smiled at the thought because almost as soon as I had it, I felt something grab my arm. I looked up to see Luke, everyone else had left the room.

"I'm sorry Annabeth, but you can't get Percy back." He told me. I could see the sadness in his eyes, and the pity.

"Why not?" I asked, starting to get hysterical. I'm usually better at controlling my emotions, but I was tired of people telling me I can't get Percy back.

"Because, after you died, he just wasn't the same. Even if you brought him back from the dead, he wouldn't be Percy anymore. I'm sorry Annabeth, he's gone."

"NO!" I scream and I don't care if I'm acting like a spoiled little kid. I am never going to forget about Percy, I was never going to give up. I waited for him in Elysium, I'll wait for him on Earth. I will get him back, no matter what it takes.

I ran out of the room before Luke could say another word. I needed to be alone for a little bit. I wanted to think about Percy, so I ran to the beach and bumped into the last person I thought I would see.
