Chapter 18

Piper's POV

Blue grabbed the boy's body before disappearing like he usually does. It had happened so fast no one had had a chance to drag him back up here. The boy never stood a chance. He was pretty good for a boy who hadn't trained before, but in today's world almost everyone needed to know how to protect themselves.

"Piper, it's okay." Calypso patted my shoulder, "Don't blame yourself. He didn't understand why no one would help him. He wanted to prove himself and save the man that saved him."

"Maybe next time we should help Blue Mask, so the kid doesn't die again." I said.

"Maybe, but you know he doesn't like us helping him. Maybe if someone had told the kid, he might not have run down there." She suggested.

"Maybe," I sighed as we walked down to the pavilion for lunch.

Jessie's POV

I woke up in a strange room. I started to call out for my mom, before remembering she was dead. The events of the previous day came running back to me. The monsters, the masked man, the people who wouldn't help, and an intense pain in my stomach.

"You're awake." A voice said, interrupting my thoughts. It was the masked man from yesterday.

"Who are you? Why are you wearing a mask? Where am I?" I asked, looking around the room. On closer inspection it looked like the walls were made out of cloth.

After your little stunt, I had to take you with me. You could have gotten yourself killed!" He shouted at me.

"No one else would help," I mumbled.

His voice softened," believe me, I'm not someone you should risk your life for."

"But you risked yours for me, so why shouldn't I for you?" I asked, really curios now.

His voice hardened before continuing on," How are you feeling? You've been out for almost a week."

I stared at him. I was asleep for that long?

"What happened?" I asked.

"You got impaled," He said.

"I caught that part, but after?" I asked.

"I had to take you with me to heal you. It was too serious for the Campers to heal," He explained.

"Are you a doctor as well as a ninja?" I asked surprised. He could fight off several monsters all at once and heal a fatal wound?

"No," He laughed," I'm not a child of Apollo."

"What?" I asked confused. What did Apollo have to do with doctors and ninjas? Wasn't he like the god of the sun or something?

"Oh, you don't know," He said almost surprised, "You're a demigod. That's why the monsters were after you. One of your parents was a God."

"A God?" I laughed," How can I be the child of a God?"

"The Gods have several children, many of them are gone, but a few of them are still here on Earth. You're one of the remaining ones. You were too young when the others escaped."

"Why did they have to escape? Is it dangerous being the child of a god?" I asked worried.

"Most of the time yes," He sighed," A lot of them died, but a few got away. There was a war, the Titans rose up and threw the Gods in Tartarus. Before that they attacked the camp were the Half-Bloods lived, where they trained. Most died, only about 200 survived, 200 out of a couple thousand. The Titans then started to make the life of mortals awful."

"A few demigods came back to help those that were left behind because they weren't old enough to make it to camp. Maybe someday they will be strong enough in numbers to defeat the Titans. It's much easier to defend something than it is to conquer it"

"You keep saying demigod, what does that mean?" I asked confused.

"It's another word for half-blood, for someone who's a child of a God," He explained. "They're supposed to give you the explanations at the camp."

"And you're one of those that helps people?" I asked.

"No, I'm not a demigod."

"What are you then?"

"It's a little hard to explain, some other time." He said, though I got the impression he really meant never.

"Okay, who's my parent then?" I asked, sensing he wanted to change the direction of the conversation.

"Did you grow up with just your Mom or Dad?" He asked.

"It was always just me and my mom, why?"

"Then your Dad is probably a God, which one we don't know. You'll have to wait till they can claim you, which might not be for a while."

"Why? Why can't they pay attention to their children?" I demanded. Why couldn't they pay attention to what was going on and save their children's parents before they got murdered right in front of their child's eyes?

"I told you, they are in Tartarus, the mythological version of prison, all of them are," He explained.

"What myths are they from? All of them? Greek, Roman, Celtic, and all of the rest?" I wondered aloud.

"That's where it gets complicated," He hesitated, "You are probably a Greek demigod since Greek monsters were after you, but there are several Gods out there. Some that we know of are the Egyptians and Romans, but I believe there are others out there."

"You should get some rest," He said pointing to the bed." Let it sink in, you'll soon get used to it."

"Thank you," I said before he could zip up the door.

"For what? You should be cursing me, I haven't done anything worth being thanked for, and you'll probably find that out for yourself soon enough." He replied before turning off the light and leaving.

Annabeth's POV

The last few years have been pretty uneventful. Everyone has been going through training. Since I joined the soldiers at the same time everyone else came for training, I was at the same level as them. Luke and Thalia have been giving me extra lessons, and with my new powers I have been improving. Now I am at the same level as the other soldiers.

We still wear our masks. We don't want them to know who we are. Most people might not be upset to learn that Thalia and I were alive, but they might be if they knew Luke was. I'm not sure everyone has forgiven him for what he did. Sometimes I wonder if I even forgive him.

It's been 10 years our time since I came back to life and the Titan's took over. We just sent about 10 volunteers to help out the remaining demigods a few months ago, if they weren't already dead. Before the year is out, we hope to have our army, campers included, ready to face Kronos.

"Annabeth!" Luke called out as he ran into my room, interrupting my thoughts. I had been writing a letter to Percy, but as usual, I would never send it.

"What now?" I asked, trying not to let on how annoyed I was to be interrupted when I wanted some alone time.

"Thals is trying to kill me! I don't know what happened. I was just reading a book and she started yelling at me. Now I can't escape. Hide me!" He begged dramatically. It actually was pretty funny, so I pointed to the bed.

Just as he disappeared under the bed, Thalia appeared in the doorway, " Where is he?" She demanded.

"What did he do this time?" I asked as I set down my pencil and turned around to face her.

"He was reading my Diary! I walk into my room and I see him laying on my bed with my Diary out reading through it. Have you seen him?" She asked all in one breath.

"Take a breath Thals, and no I haven't seen him," I said as I pointed to my bed.

This type of thing happened quite often, every day or twice a day actually. I went back and forth between whose side I took. This time I supported Thalia. A girl's diary should be secret, if you read it, you're asking to be killed, or seriously hurt.

Thalia nodded her head," Fine, I'll go ask Selena," She headed over to the door and closed it behind her. As soon as the door closed behind her, Luke came out from under the bed. As soon as he collapsed on the bed Thalia opened the door and jumped on him. She held her knife up to her throat.

"How could you!? I trusted you!" Luke shrieked, eyeing the sharp blade.

Laughing, I pulled Thalia off him," Come on Thals, you know Father would never forgive you if you killed his favorite, just a good beating should do the trick. I'll help."

"No, no! Please! Mercy!" Luke cried.

"Do you promise not to read my diary ever again?" Thalia asked in a serious tone.

"How else would I know how to ask you out on your dream date?" He asked with a smirk.

"If you don't know then maybe you aren't the guy I want to date," Thalia said blushing.

"Just get a room you two," I said rolling my eyes.

Everyone could see it. They both were in love with each other, but neither of them wanted to admit it.

"Annabeth!" Thalia scolded me.

"Don't worry Luke," I said turning to him," I'll tell you how to ask her out, just don't read her diary again."

"Fine, " he pouted.

"Do you promise?" Thalia asked.

"I promise," He mumbled.

"Very well," Thalia said before heading for the door.

"Hang on a minute. I think Luke needs a punishment," Luke started to protest before I cut him off," I think he owes you a dinner."

"No!" They both shouted in unison. Luke teased Thalia all the time about dating her but would never ask her out for some reason. It a shame really, they would make such a cute couple.

"Fine," I laughed," You should probably both get ready for training, our break's almost over."

Thalia stormed out of my room while Luke waited a minute before following so he wouldn't have to talk to her.

Smiling, I sat back down and picked up my pencil again. There was so much I wanted to tell Percy if only I could see him again.
