Chapter 14
Calypso's POV
I heard a scream, the sound of grief. Someone has found a body of someone they loved. I look towards the source of noise, and see Piper wailing over a body. A scrawny body with brown hair.
No. I thought. This can't be happening, that's not him.
"Are you okay?" Nico asked me, as he deflected a blow from one of the titans that had snuck up behind me.
I didn't answer him. I couldn't. I kept staring at the figure laying in a pool of blood until it was right in front of me.
I kept hoping, praying that maybe it was someone else. Maybe it was another camper I didn't know very well, but it wasn't. Leo's face, frozen in a look of determination.
I just stared in shock at the body in front of me. I barely heard as the Chaos commander called for a retreat. Will and Nico had to pull me and Piper back. I started to grab Leo's body, but Nico shook his head no.
As we ran away from the camp, deep into the woods, I realized why we couldn't bring him. We had to get as far as we could. We needed to regroup. If we carried a body, that would just slow us down.
I just wished we had called for a retreat earlier. The thought of what those monsters might do to his body, I can't bear to think of it.
My boyfriend, the one who had saved me from my island prison and helped me adjust to this new world, was dead.
Luke's POV
We stopped a few hours later and made camp for the night. We were down to around 200 campers, half of which were wounded.
Apollo campers, and the hunters, who showed up sometime during the battle, were helping the wounded. Rocky and Zoë tried helping however they could. The others were on patrol duty.
Everyone felt dejected. We had lost. Our camp had been given to the enemy. Our friends had died. What were we going to do next?
After dinner, we decided to gather the campers together around our small campfire. Rocky started the meeting.
"Okay, everyone, choose a spokesperson for your cabin. They will speak up for you instead of everyone at once. Do you understand?" She asked as she addressed the crowd.
"We are thinking about bringing you to Chaos's realm with us. You will then be able to train, and hopefully soon, we can come back and fight those monsters, and you can get your home back. Talk about it among yourselves, and send your speaker down with your cabin's opinion, yes or no," I explained to the small crowd.
The cabins spent a few minutes talking together, but they all agreed, they wanted to come with us and learn how to fight. We decided we would leave in the morning. Rocky and I thought the campers could do with a rest before traveling through a portal. Those things can be very exhausting, especially when you aren't used to them.
The guards were mostly made up out of Soldiers, allowing the campers to get as much sleep as they could.
After a while of just walking back in forth, I started wishing I was doing anything but guard duty. Guard duty is so boring, you just stand there waiting, sometimes someone attacks, but most of the time no one does. As I was walking behind Thalia's tent, I heard a noise. Whipping my sword out, I pointed it at a figure in a mask and cape. I couldn't see very clearly, but by the light of the moon, it had a golden tint. I got ready to attack before I realized what he had in his arms, a dead body.
He must have realized what I had seen and gently set the body down. Then, slowly while holding his hands up, he walked back from the body. I walked closer and saw its face, it was that boy, Leo, I think.
"Who are you?" I asked so quietly I could barely hear myself. He seemed to though.
"Maybe I should ask you the same question. Why are you hiding your identity from the very people you're trying to help?" He asked in a voice that sounded familiar.
"If I showed my face to them, they would sooner kill me than let me help them."
"Same, except for the helping part. I'm sure they would be glad for the extra help, just as long as they can get rid of me afterwards," He said the last part bitterly. I wondered what the Gods had ever done to him.
Before he could react, I reached out and grabbed his mask and pulled it off. The face looking back at me shocked me to the core, it was Percy Jackson, the most loyal, and powerful demigod to ever be born, a demigod who was supposed to be dead, a traitor who was working for Kronos, and he was looking right back at me, and I had just made him mad.
