"Indra! You need to wake up!"

The voice was gentle and calm and Indra felt an immense sense of peace, as he heard the words. And that was when Indra realized everything around him was hazy. In fact nothing was making sense to him at all.

"Where am I?" Indra asked wondering whose voice it was.

"You and the other Devas are under the spell of Nindra Devi." The voice told him. "We are inside your dreams!"

"Lord Vishnu!" Indra realized as his heart was beating hard. "Kavyamata!" Indra said as he remembered. "The Asuras! We were about to attack them, outside the hermitage of Sage Shukracharya!"

"Calm down, Indra!" Lord Vishnu told Indra gently. "I am here in your subconscious. You need to enter my body so that I can carry you to safety!"

Indra suddenly felt awake as he felt the Lord all around him.

Kavyamata frowned as she was studying the fallen Devas. Something, suddenly was different. Kavyamata walked towards the sleeping Indra and as she was using her powers, she sensed what was wrong.

Kavyamata realized that it was Lord Vishnu who was helping Indra.

"INDRA!" Kavyamata bellowed angrily. "Using the powers of my penance I shall devour both you and Lord Vishnu! Just watch!" Kavyamata said softly.

Indra stared aghast at Lord Vishnu. "This woman, she is dangerous, my Lord! Please do something!"

Lord Vishnu realized that as long as Kavyamata protected the Asuras, there was nothing the Devas could do.

Lord Vishnu pulled out his Sudarshana Chakra [Discus] and Lord Vishnu beheaded Kavyamata.

Sage Bhrigu, Kavyamata's husband sensed something wrong as he was meditating. He knew..He knew that something very wrong had just happened.

Sage Bhrigu was meditating as he could see with sudden clarity in his Mind's eye as to what had happened in the hermitage of his son.

Sage Bhrigu did not even know it as he appeared before the beheaded body of his wife and saw Lord Vishnu and Indra who were near her.

"You did this!" Sage Bhrigu said in a soft voice as he studied Lord Vishnu. "You killed my wife. That is unforgivable!" Sage Bhrigu continued, his eyes glittering in rage. "For this crime, I curse you Lord Vishnu. I curse you that you shall be born repeatedly on Earth! You shall suffer many births again and again!" Sage Bhrigu said as he saw his dead wife. [The story further goes on about how Sage Bhrigu using the powers of his penance was able to join the head and the body of his wife and give her life again]

It is believed that it is because of Sage Bhrigu's curse that Lord Vishnu incarnates on earth repeatedly. And Lord Vishnu incarnates when the evil on the earth threatens to go out of hand. He incarnates as a Force of good and sets things right.

This curse is believed to be one of the reasons for Lord Vishnu incarnating as Krishna, the Dark Lord of Dwaraka.
