Chapter 5 - Kalayavana
Immediately, after the attacks by Jarasandha were getting more frequent, the problem was naturally the economy was the first to get affected.
Krishna, being who he was naturally he was realized that his people could never be happy, if he kept this up. Unlike the Gopas, who easily moved from Gokul to Vrindavan, Krishna realized that he could displace all the people in Mathura so easily. Besides, economy could be affected by this move. And moving elsewhere was not going to remove the problem. Jarasandha would still attack.
It was for this reason that Krishna summoned Vishwakarma.
Vishwakarma is a brilliant architect and he is believed to be the architect of the very Devas. When Krishna told him of his needs, Vishwakarma almost immediately knew exactly what Krishna had in mind.
Vishwakarma turned his attention to the coastal areas near Mathura and near the mountain called "Raivataka", Vishwakarma discovered the perfect spot for what he was going to do.
On the land reclaimed from the sea, near the mount Raivataka, Vishwakarma designed the city of Dwaravati or Dwaraka.
This place was really a sight to watch.
Probably, the description of Sage Narada who was one of the constant visitors of the city, would be perfect.
The place had plenty of lakes, parks with beautiful fountains and Dwaravati actually had 9,00,000 palaces inside it - the palaces were supposedly constructed of crystal and silver. That was not all. All the palaces were studded with emeralds and the furniture was made of gold. The roads were meant to be broad and the market places, assembly houses and temples were kept at all the proper places.
This was not all.
Vishwakarma held absolutely nothing back, when he designed Krishna's own private palace - it was said that the palaces were decorated with corals and sapphires were decked on the walls and floors glowed brilliantly. In some places, there were even beds and other furniture made of ivory.
It was said that the jewels itself dispelled the darkness of the palace. (Plenty of Puranas believe that this place was designed by Vishwakarma in a day.)

During the seventeenth attack of Jarasandha, Krishna realized that Jarasandha had devised a particularly devious plan and just before the war, he had all his people move from Mathura to Dvaravathi.
It was a good thing, because the next day's attack by Jarasandha was daring - because the attack was twofold - one from Jarasandha in the front and this time, Jarasandha was smart enough to get another of his ally -King Kalayavana - who attacked Mathura from the other side. (Kalayavana's father was a priest called "Ganga" and mother was a "Yavana" princess and Yavana means Greek in Sanskrit. Presumably, Kalayavana was a dark complexioned man, which was why he was called as "Kala-Yavana".)
Jarasandha's attack was good. Unfortunately, he did not know that there were no longer any ordinary people in Mathura.
Besides, this time Jarasandha was in for a surprise.
At the time of the attack of Kalayavana, Krishna ran from the battle...
