Devaki just could not see enough of the dark boy before her. No matter how many times she had seen him, she felt that it was not enough.

She had seen him once - during her pain induced labour and the one thing she remembered was his dark hue. That was accentuated now and added to the boy's handsome features.

But as she saw the boy before her, she just could not articulate herself.

Of all the things that Kamsa had done, Devaki felt that this was the most cruel thing which had happened to her.

Because of Kamsa, Devaki had never seen the little one cry. She had never soothed his wounds. She had never seen his happiness. She had never known his mischiefs....she had given birth to him - that was all.

Yashoda had been his mother. She had raised Krishna.

After releasing the Ugrasena from prison, it was decided that the old man should take back the throne of Mathura and rule it.

(To understand this decision, it is necessary to go back to the Satya Yuga - the first era.

Yayati was one of the kings mentioned in the Rig Veda.

Yayati unfortunately always wanted to enjoy his youth and was terrified of losing his youthful pleasures.

So to avert this, he asked one of his four sons to take his old age and give him their youth.

Three of his four sons understandably refused the condition. One of the sons who refused Yayati's wish was Yadu.

In anger, Yayati cursed Yadu that Yadu or his descendants would never be a king over his dominion.

It is presumed that as Krishna is a Yadava - a descendant of Yadu - because of which, Krishna did not rule Mathura.)

Krishna made sure that the last rites of Kamsa was performed well and took good care of the widows of Kamsa - Asti and Prapti.

Looking at the two boys, it was decided that the boys had to have their formal education.

So a teacher called Guru Sandipani was appointed to teach the two brothers.

Now the two brothers were brought up as princes and they learnt the art of warfare and diplomacy, as was required for the administration of the kingdom.
