Tea Leaves
Krestena's POV
The trio were fine with me dating Cedric, though Harry wanted to go big brother on him. Hermione just turned all girly asking how he asked me out and also wanted to meet him. I had rolled my eyes but told her any way. The next morning we went through our time tables and decided to do things together. Go to all our morning lessons in order, before going back in time for doubled up listens. Like Divination and Ancient Runes. We'd do Divination first and then Ancient Runes the second time around. Then as we couldn't do Transfiguration twice, we were going to go to the library to get a head start on any home work.
Right now we are on our way to divination with the other two (Harry and Ron). But we've gotten a little lost along the way. I decided to ask one of the portraits as I was tired of walking around in circles. "Hello kind knight, we are looking for North tower can you show us the way?" I ask the portrait of a knight with his pony.
"A quest, come follow me dear friend, we shall reach our goal" he declares. He tries to mount his pony but falls off. "On foot then, good sirs and gentle ladies" he states taking off. We hurry after him following the sound of his armour. Soon we reach a spiral staircase and run up them. Up the top we saw our classmates all waiting.
"Thank you" I tell the knight after gaining my breath back.
"Farewell my comrades in arms, if ever you need a noble heart call upon Sir Cadogan" he tells us before leaving.
"Yeah we'll call you if we ever need someone mental" Ron mumbles. We look up to see a trap door and it opens. A silver ladder appeared and Harry climbed it first with Ron followed by Hermione & I. Harry, Hermione, Ron and I sat at the same round table as Trelawney appeared.
She greeted us and told us about what we'd be studying this year. Even made some 'predictions' before we each got a cup of tea made with tea leaves. Hermione and I would switch to read each others cups, while Harry switched with Ron.
"You first Hermione" I say handing her my empty cup. She looks at her book before looking into the cup.
"That could be a heart, so you'll find love" she states.
"Already done that" I remind her blushing. "Anything else?" I ask.
"A wonky cross, so you'll suffer a lot this year" she adds squinting at the cup.
"What did you get Ron?" I ask in a bored tone.
"Apparently I am going to suffer, but be happy about it" he says shrugging. Then looks at Harry's cup trying to predict his future when Trelawney appears.
"The falcon, my dear you have a terrible enemy" she says looking at Harry.
"Everyone knows that" Hermione and I state. "Come on, everyone knows about Harry and you-know-who" we say as the class looks at us shocked.
"A club, an attack not a happy cup" Trelawney says ignoring us. "Skull, danger in your path" she adds and everyone looks at her in anticipation. She seems to see something frightful and drops the cup saying it was kinder not to tell Harry.
"What is it professor?" Dean asks.
"The grim" she states and some of the students gasp while I roll my eyes.
"The grim?" Dean says.
"What's the grim?" Seamus asks.
"One of the darkness omens in our world, an omen of death" I explain casually.
"It doesn't look like a grim to me" Hermione says looking into Harry's cup.
"You forgive me for saying so I sense little aura around you" Trelawney tells Hermione.
"It looks like the grim if you do this" Seamus says squinting his eyes. "Otherwise it looks like a donkey" he states.
"When you've all finished deciding if I'm going to die or not" Harry snaps. Professor Trelawney then says it was time for us to leave. As we leave she tells Neville he'll be late next lesson and to study extra hard so he doesn't fall behind. We reach transfiguration and take our normal seats as McGonagall turns human. but none of us clap like usual.
"Really, what has got into you all today?" she asks. "Not that is matters, but that is the first time my transformation hasn't received an applause from the class" she states.
"Forgive us professor" I tell her.
"We just had divination and we reading tea leaves" Hermione explains.
"Ah of course" McGonagall says frowning. "No need to explain Miss Granger, tell me which one of you is dying this year?" she asks. We look at her surprised as Harry answers 'me'. "You should all know that Trelawney has predicted one death each year since she arrived. None have died yet, it's her favourite way to greet a new class. You look fine to me Potter, but if you die you need not hand your homework in" she explains.
Everyone being slightly cheerer we continued on with our lesson. Hermione and I decided to use our turners early so we could go to Arithmancy, then back again for ancient runes. Afterwards we appear behind the other two to hear Ron asking Harry if he's seen a big black dog anywhere. "Saw one the night I left the Dursleys" Harry replies.
"Probably just a stray" I say shrugging, but know it was my dad he saw.
"Krestena, if Harry has seen a grim that's bad' Ron states. "My uncle saw one and died twenty four hours later" he explains.
"Coincidence" Hermione and I tell him.
"You don't know what you're talking about, grims scar the living daylights out of most wizards" Ron states.
"There you go then, they see the grim and die of fright" Hermione says logically. "Grim isn't an omen of death, it is a cause" she states.
"Harry's not stupid enough to see one and think he has to drop dead now" I add. Ron mouthed wordlessly at Hermione and I as we enter the great hall for lunch. We take out Arithmancy books as we sit at the gryffindor table.
"Divination seems rather woolly to me a lot of guess work" Hermione states.
"There was nothing woolly about the grim in that cup" Ron tells us.
"You didn't seem that confident when you were telling Harry it was a sheep" I remind him.
"You just don't like being rubbish at something for a change" Ron says making mine and Hermione's eye twitch.
"If being good at divination means I have to pretend to see death omens in tea leaves. I'm not sure I'll be taking it for much longer" Hermione states.
"I'm with you Hermione, our Arithmancy class was way better compared to that horrible divination class" I state. Hermione and I snatched up our bags walking away. We spent the rest of lunch studying in the library before heading out to Hagrid's hut for Care of Magical Creatures.
