Prince and the Tramp [2]

FOLLOWING the young prince back to the ball room was giving Taeyong anxiety, as he looked at the back of the others head. Jaehyun was taller than him, and had a much stronger build than he did. Taeyong was always jealous of others like Jaehyun, because he was not built so hearty like them. Instead, he was built like a woman, feminine waist, sides, face, and hands. Taeyong believes the gods first made him into a woman, but instead had fun with their experiment and turned into a man. What a horrible experiment gone wrong.

Voices filled Taeyongs ears suddenly, and he blinks out of his thinking to see the bodies of happy people dancing. The ball room was now dimmed and the only light brightening the room was the large chandelier. Taeyong suddenly felt like he did when he got here, scared. He stopped walking for a moment, and Jaehyun must've noticed right when he did because he turned around to face him.

"What's wrong?" Jaehyun asks in concern.

"I don't go well crowds." Taeyong whispers as he looks down, fiddling with his blazer.

"Well then don't go with crowds," Jaehyun starts and walks up to Taeyong as he puts his hand out for him to take, "go with me." He asserts as a smile finds his lips.

Taeyong hesitates for a moment, but then looks up at Jaehyun with his Bambi eyes. A smile then makes way to his own face as he takes the other males hand in his; Jaehyun turns them around and leads them both into the large room full of people. Everybody in the room was surrounding the couples dancing and having fun in the middle under the chandelier. Taeyong watched in awe as he saw all of them dancing effortlessly, his mother never got to teach him how to dance.

"Let's join." Jaehyun suggests, squeezing Taeyongs hand.

"No no I can't dance." Taeyong quickly objects, and tugs his hand that doesn't move from the strong grip of Jaehyuns.

"I'll teach you, just follow my league." Jaehyun says with a smile, and pulls Taeyong out onto the floor.

All eyes are attached to them at once as the girls in the crowd squeal as they see Jaehyun. Taeyong had the same feeling of being low, and looked down at their feet. He felt Jaehyun lean down, and his breath come to contact with his cheek.

"Just look at me, and follow my steps." Jaehyun whispers in his ear.

Taeyong flinches as he feels a hand wrap around his waist, and another bring up his own in the air to the side. Taeyong looks up at Jaehyun to find the other staring right back at him, and he could feel his ears turn red.

Suddenly, Jaehyun starts to move without warning and Taeyong is quick to latch his hand on his shoulder. He tried his best to keep up with a rhythm he was new too on the spot, and was doing quite well. He was almost proud of himself, but how could he whenever out of the corner of his eye he saw other people on the floor dancing the night away without worry.

"Just look at me Taeyong." Taeyong was quick to focus his attention back to the voice, and met Jaehyuns eyes once again.

A smile then widened itself on Jaehyuns face, which made Taeyong raise an eyebrow in question.

"Have some fun with this, the nights to late and your too pretty to be looking like a deer in headlights." Jaehyun says honestly, and Taeyong is taken back.

Did Jaehyun really think he was pretty? Taeyongs ears were now burning, embarrassed by the sudden compliment.

He was suddenly whirled around and they were now in the center. Taeyong panicked, and made himself close to Jaehyun. Jaehyun only smirked as he started to dance them under the chandelier, everybody watching as the prince danced with a boy. Taeyong tried his best to keep up, and let his feet move by themselves as he didn't know what to think or do. After a few seconds, he became known of Jaehyuns movement. It was quite easy in his opinion, and he joined in the flow.

Jaehyun must've noticed, because right when Taeyong was starting to get comfortable he flung the boy out of his waist grasp and let him twirl until his back hit his chest. Taeyong gasped at the sudden dance move, and thought Jaehyun was trying to play him with some teasing game. He looked up to find Jaehyun smirking down at him, and Taeyong scrunched his face.

'Two can play this game.' Taeyong thought, and with a swift movement he unattached himself from the others chest and came back into their starting position.

"Keep up!" Jaehyun calls out jokingly, and Taeyong almost laughs.

"No, you keep up!" Taeyong yells back as he starts moving their position, back and forth they made their way across the white marble dance floor.

Jaehyun had a full blown smile on his face now, and Taeyongs was creeping up to join. They danced their way across the whole dance floor, and the other people who were dancing made the decision to stop and let them enjoy the whole flooring. Everybody watched in awe as the prince and a boy danced the night away with one another, they have never seen anything like it.

Taeyongs eyes were attached to Jaehyuns as they swirled in a never ending dance, all the sounds and music died down. It all became blurry around them as they sped up, the music almost ending. It was like a fairy tale, a poor tramp dancing with a wealthy prince. Taeyong thought it was a dream, dancing with somebody who shouldn't know he was even alive. He was nothing compared to the person right in front of him, staring at him as if a pile of diamond. It felt unreal, so unreal Taeyong refused to believe it was actually happening. It was all a dream, it had to be. Taeyong felt like he was dancing on a cloud, not feeling his feet anymore and happiness and joy filled him. He hadn't felt the feeling since his father died, he missed it.

The music and sounds slowly came back into focus as they danced faster and faster, Taeyong hadn't noticed but he was out of breath. It was funny how time and your energy passes when you enjoy something so much. It made Taeyong smile just thinking about it, in which he didn't know, it made Jaehyuns heart flutter.

They suddenly swirled and swirled, until Taeyong heard the music stop and he was suddenly thrown down into the hands of Jaehyun. Landing cradled, held by the waist and holding onto Jaehyun for dead life as he wasn't even putting weight to hold himself up. He was sideways in the air, staring up at Jaehyun with eyes of curiosity. Jaehyun was looking down him with eyes he couldn't explain, the glint in them were so strong he didn't understand why.

They're moment was interrupted as the sound of applause filled the room, and noises of awe. Taeyong suddenly realized that the whole town was watching them, and his body burned with eyes watching him. He quickly stood up, removing his hands from the expensive clothing Jaehyun had on. Jaehyun almost looked hurt as Taeyong did so, and Taeyong didn't know why but he hated it.

"Prince Jaehyun! Let me be your next dance!" A high pitched voice offered from the crowd, and Taeyong didn't know why but he was hurt.

Realization hit Taeyong like a truck, and he quickly turns around and finds himself running out of there. He hears a faint voice behind him, calling him to wait. He refused this time, ignoring the voice as he runs towards the entrance of the palace. He runs out of the large wooden doors, feeling the cold wind hit his face.

"Please! Wait!" A voice calls from behind him, and he knew it was Jaehyuns yet he kept running.

He knew he should've never came, he knew he should've stayed at home with his mother and taken care of her. He didn't know why he making such a big deal out of something, but he just couldn't get out of his head that he didn't deserve to be in the presence of anyone else. He didn't deserve to dance with the prince, or how the other boy looked at him. He didn't understand, and that's what made him scared - was that he didn't understand.

He ran faster, seeing the empty dark roads that led to his house down the road. He ran, and soon heard the footsteps behind him stop. He kept running though, until he saw his small house; the flame inside giving it the slightest glow. He ran into the small house, and closed the door swiftly. He turned around as he put his back against it, sliding down as he painted; sitting on the ground to catch his breath.

He leaned his head against the door, closing his eyes as he gave a long deep sigh.

"Why are you so stupid?" Taeyong whispers to himself, angry with himself for what he did.

After a moment of hating himself, he gets up and goes to check on his mother. Walking to her room, he walks in on her sleeping soundly. He gives a reassured sigh and walks out to take a shower. Walking into his bathroom, he closes the door and turns towards the mirror. The only thing lighting the room so he could see himself was a small lit candle.

He gives a moment to look in the mirror, seeing his fathers suit on him. He takes a deep breath, and looks down at the sink below him. He never felt so stupid, so ashamed that he wore his fathers suit in vain.

He turn around, shaking his head as he bends down and flips the handle. Nothing happens, no water appears in the tub. Taeyong furrows his eyebrows, flipping the handle back and forth. No water comes out. He give a grunt of frustration, and pushes the handle away. The water must've run out of their well, or their pipe broke. He hopes that it was just the well. He runs his hands through his hair, walking out of the bathroom.

He walks into the living room, looking at where he sleeps; which was a cardboard box with 2 blankets piled up as a cover. He had a blanket also to sleep with. He slept by the fire, where it was warm at least.  His mother had her own flame upstairs, it was small but so was she do it kept her warm.

He slowly takes his blazer off, not bothering to take his fathers pants or dress shirt off. Putting it on a small desk, he turns back towards his bed.

Lying down in defeat, he covers himself with his thin blanket and sighs heavily. Closing his eyes, the image of Jaehyun's smile passes his mind. A small smile finds its way to Taeyongs face, replaying the nights events in his mind.

It was simply a fairytale Taeyong refused to believe was real.

A knock on the door woke Taeyong from his deep slumber, and he got up stiffly like he did every morning. He blinked a few time, getting used to the sun rays lighting his house. Another knock on the door made him get up and go answer it, feeling exhausted.

Opening it, he was met with the face of his friends.

"Taeyong! Good morning!" Dahyun yells in excitement as she invited herself in, everybody else following.

"Morning?" Taeyong questions slightly, his friends usually didn't come in the mornings.

"So, you have some explaining to do. Get started young man while I create a splendid breakfast." Tzuyu says, and pulls a large back from behind her.

Opening it, she starts to pull out fruit and bread. Taeyong was grateful for the food, but then raises an eyebrow in confusion.

"Explain myself?" Taeyong asks, looking over at his friends that were now sitting on his living room floor.

"You danced with Jung Jaehyun last night! In front of the whole town! Everybody's been talking!" Jeno informs him with a smile.

Realization hit Taeyong, and he widens his eyes. 'It really wasn't a dream.' He thinks to himself.

"Oh yea....that." Taeyong repeats nervously, running his hands through his black locks.

"Yes, that! Now spill!" Mark urges.

"Well, truthfully he stopped me from leaving before the party even started. I actually had nothing to give him but a flower when I walked in, and he told me he liked it." Taeyong smiled the slightest whole thinking about the scene. "He also said he'd like it if I'd stay for the ball, so I did. That was when he dragged me on onto the dance floor."

"Oh my god it's like a fairytale! Your so lucky!" Dahyun squeals.

"I guess so." Taeyong whispers, a light blush running across his face.

"Well, I'd think you'd like to know that he's been looking for you." Haechan mentions, and Taeyong snaps his head in surprise.

"H-he's doing what?" Taeyong asks in disbelief.

"Yep, all over town he's been looking. Since this morning at least, people said he was looking in every house." Mark adds on.

"For me? Why, why would he be looking for me?" Taeyong asks, imagining Jaehyun looking through the whole town for him.

"Ya know, for someone who looks both ways for horses when they cross the street, your blind as a dog." Dahyun insults, and Taeyong huffs in offense. "He's obviously into you! Why else would a prince, a whole prince, be looking for a citizen?" She adds.

"Taeyong, if he is what I think he is, you could be royalty!" Tzuyu says with a smile, setting down little bowls with bread and sliced fruit in front of them.

"Thanks Tzuyu." Taeyong quickly says, taking the bowl in hand. "I don't know if I wanna be royalty, I have bad anxiety with people." Taeyong whispers.

"Come on Taeyong! Maybe this is what you've been waiting for!" Mark says, and looks at Taeyong. "You could finally help your mom." He adds slowly.

Taeyong looks up to meet Mark's eyes, and then back down at the bowl of food in his hands. He thinks for a moment, about the possibilities that could come with becoming royalty. He could help his mom, he could be rich and he could be in love. Not that he really cared about the rich part, it was always good to be known on.

"Fine, but what if he's not what he thinks I am? What if it turns out he doesn't like me?" Taeyong asks, taking a strawberry in his mouth.

"Then that's his loss." Tzuyu assures, and claps her hands. "But think about if he did Taeyong! Think about the future!" She quickly adds.

"I guess it would be nice to wake up in a palace everyday." Taeyong gives a light laugh, and his friends nodded along.

A sudden knock at the door makes then all jump up, and gave Taeyong a sinking feeling in his stomach.

"It's him. It's Prince Jaehyun!" Dahyun yells in a whisper towards Taeyong. "Answer it! He's looking for you!"

"I can't." Taeyong says, voice cracking as he puts his food bowl down.

The knock is heard again, this time stronger. Dahyun rolls her eyes as she stands up and goes to answer the door. Taeyong waves his hands no as he tries to stop her, but she gets away in time to grab the handle.

"Dahyun no!" Taeyong yells as he grabs her, and she fights back to open the door.

The rest of friend group sneaks out the back of the house, laughing silently as they know what's gonna happen next.

"Taeyong let go! Either you open the door or I do!" Dahyun yells, and pushes him onto the door as she opens it on his face.

Taeyong let's out a cry a pain as the door opens on his nose, and Dahyun covers her mouth to laugh; instead she gets a glimpse of Jaehyun and quickly retreats to back door.

Taeyong curses as he holds his nose in pain, wincing as his door was made with heavy wood. The door slowly opens, and suddenly a shadow hovers over Taeyong. Taeyong looks up, still holding his nose as he makes eye contact with those brown orbs from last night.

"Prince Jaehyun..." Taeyong trails off, and a smile forms on Jaehyuns face.

"Found you." He whispers, and then realizes Taeyongs pain. "Are you ok?"

"Oh, I'm fine. The door just, uh, hit me." Taeyong tries to find a good excuse to why he hit himself with a door, pathetic to think about.

"Oh, well, I was wondering if you would like to come with me back to castle. Just for a while, "Jaehyun suggests, his eyes hovering slightly. "I'd like to get to know each other better."

"Oh, I see." Taeyong says, but then a sudden thought came to mind. "Can you give me a moment, I must take care of my mother." Taeyong admits, and runs back inside the small house.

Jaehyun didn't get the chance to answer, so he simply looked around in the small house where he was standing. Out of the corner of the room, behind a wall, he saw a glimpse of a cardboard layout, and a fire sitting beside it that was slowly dying out. He looked at the peeling walls, the old wood that groaned with every wind pushed against it. Jaehyun soon realized that Taeyong was not the wealthiest of the citizens, as his house was somewhat isolated.

He watched as Taeyong was about to go down a small hallway with a cup and bread, instead he paused and looked over at Jaehyun.

"You can come meet her if you want, she'd be glad to see you." Taeyong whispers, and Jaehyun follows him down the slim hallway.

Jaehyun stops halfway, hiding behind a wall. Peeking, he sees a the sick woman on a bed, and watches as Taeyong wakes her up gently; handing her the cup and bread. Jaehyun finds the similarities in their faces, Taeyong had much sharper features but their eyes and face shape was the same.

The woman suddenly made eye contact with Jaehyun, and he froze at the soft glare laid upon him.

"Whose that Taeyong?" Her croaky voice calls out.

Taeyong turns around, and meets Jaehyuns eyes as well. He then gives a small smile of reassurance, and then turns back to his mother.

"That's Prince Jaehyun, mom." Taeyong informs, and his mothers eyes widen.

Jaehyun slowly walks in, taking in the smell of herbs coming from her cup. He also notices how thin she is, must be genetics she gave to Taeyong.

"Oh my what a fine young man you are. Wealthy to the seems hm." Taeyongs mothers jokes, and Jaehyun gives a half smile.

"How do u do madam?" He asks politely.

"Fine on this very day, what a hearty face you have. Come here darling." She puts her cup to her side, and holds her hands out for Jaehyun.

Jaehyun leans in, and she takes his face in her hands.

"My my, aren't you just a handsome one. If I was your age I would be drop dead for you." She jokes, and Taeyong blushes in embarrassment.

"Mom don't say such things." Taeyong whispers.

Jaehyun only laughs, and takes her cold hands in his warm ones. "I'm sure you would've been gorgeous ma'am." He compliments.

"Oh boy don't say such things, too charming for your own good." She gives a smile, but then hacks up a cough.

The smiles in the room quickly disappear as the woman has a small coughing fit; Taeyong rushing to pay her back and hand her her tea. She sighs at the end of it, waving away Taeyong.

Jaehyuns heart wrenches at the sight, seeing Taeyongs worried face for his mother. Jaehyun couldn't imagine the pain they must both be in.

"Taeyong, I understand if you want to stay with your mother." Jaehyun reassures.

"I-" Taeyong starts to answer.

"No no I'll be fine, go ahead son." His mother quickly interrupts.

Taeyong presses his lips in a thin line, and nods. Looking over at Jaehyun, they both escort out of the small room.

"Taeyong, your mother..." Jaehyun starts, looking over at Taeyong.

"I know. She's ill, I'm trying my best to keep her healthy. Though, I can't do much right now." Taeyong says pitifully, looking at Jaehyuns ride.

"I can help Taeyong, we can take her back to the palace and get her real help." Jaehyun suggest.

"I don't have any money." Taeyong says, clenching his jaw.

"I'll pay for it, you don't have to worry about a single thing." Jaehyun assures with a smile.

"No way, I can't just let you do everything and I watch. What can I do?" Taeyong asks.

"Just give me your time, and your debts paid." Jaehyun jokes at the last part, but was serious about the first.

'My time? Why would you want my time?' Taeyong thinks as he stares at Jaehyun, but then nods. "Done."

"Great, I'll send people of the palace to help your mother out of the house. She'll be up and fine before you know it." Jaehyun states.

"I'm sure betting on it." Taeyong mumbles, and Jaehyun laughs a little at the sudden attitude.

Taeyong didn't know what he expected with the time spent with Prince Jaehyun, but it surely wasn't love. He never expected, not once, that he would fall in love so easily with the boy. It was a fairy tale, and now he believed he was doomed for having caught feelings. He's never felt feelings of love though, but it was magical whenever he would get butterflies in his stomach and when he could feel his cheeks burn from redness whenever they caught eyes. It was a wonderful beginning of something new.

His mother on the other hand was doing well, and was up for some time being. It shocked Taeyong how much more lively she looked and she told him she felt young again. Taeyong couldn't tell if it was the medicine or her spirit then, because she was smiling. He would watch her as she went out into the courtyard, picking flowers and dancing with herself as she hasn't in a long time. Taeyong thought it was nice to actually have a mother that could lift herself up again, and felt a burden that had been sitting on his shoulders heavily, float away.

He had been staying in the castle, persuaded by none other than Jaehyun himself. He simply let it happen as he packed up everything and moved into a large room on the west wing. It felt unreal sometimes, looking out onto the town and seeing his small house buried in the woods. Watching people just live their lives as he sits in a palace built on gold, if almost felt ignorant of him.

Though, he couldn't imagine what a life would be if Jaehyun hadn't interfered with his. Probably boring, balanced, and chaotic. Taeyong had also invited his friend group over sometimes, and he had to admit he'd seen them steal some food here and then. It was a given though, and Jaehyun admitted it was amusing. He gave them food when they walked in, and they had good going out the door. They were simply childish, rebellious.

Throughout the days however, Taeyong and Jaehyun had become closer. Taeyong learned that Jaehyun had a sister back at home, and that he was the only Prince in the Jung line. Taeyong also shared about himself, even though there was really nothing to share.

Now, there both here. After exploring through the meadows behind the place the Prince and the tramp lay on the grass in the middle of large trees, facing the moon and stars. Taeyong could feel himself getting tired, but didn't want to go to sleep as he felt relaxed in the soft grass of spring. He could imagine doing this everyday: waking up in a castle, having a hearty breakfast, feeling care free of money or gold, going out wherever wanted with free transportation, eat whatever is available, and at the end of the day lay in a field of grass with a soulmate. It would be heaven on earth.

"Taeyong, can I say something dangerous?" A voice interrupts his thoughts, and he turns his head to look over at a godly side profile beside him.

"Go for it." Taeyong replies, turning his vision back to the starry sky.

"I think I'm in love with you." Jaehyun whispers.

Something in Taeyongs heart paused, and so did his efforts to answer. His eyes widened the slightest, and how his nerves started to race. He repeated the statement in his mind, and in disbelief tried to refuse to believe it was real. A prince, in love with somebody who had no loyalty down the line. It was simply something he's never hear of, and he hated the fact that he was enjoying the feeling of hearing those words. He could feel himself bite his lip, thinking of something to say.

"You can't be."

Jaehyun sits up from his position, looking at Taeyong who soon does the same thing. Meeting eyes, Taeyong feels the warm ness in his cheeks.

"Why? Why can't I be?" Jaehyun inquires with a frown.

"Because, it's...it's just not normal." Taeyong tries to find the right words, but at the moment he's panicking.

"Normal? Who cares about normal, I just want to know if you like me back Taeyong." Jaehyun pressures, and Taeyong grits his jaw in regret.

"I do, I really do. It's just not accepted. We can't be together." Taeyong shakes his head, and Jaehyun huffs.

"I don't care if your a citizen or even if your not wealthy, these past few days made me realize that money isn't everything. It never filled the void, I was always so alone. But- but you did. You made me feel something I've never felt- ever since I laid eyes on you I couldn't get you out of head. It was like you were a sign, an angel even." Jaehyun explains, and Taeyong just listens; shocked. "There was just something in your eyes that made me want to know more, and now that I did- I don't think I can look away." Jaehyun admits.

They sit in silence for a moment, Taeyong thinking as he looks down at the ground. He suddenly feels a hand slip into his, feeling a strong grip on it.

"Can I love you Taeyong?" Jaehyun whispers, and Taeyong looks up to meet his eyes.

Taeyong only lets a smile grow on his face, and gives out a breathy laugh.

"Idiot, of course you can."

That night, they both feel asleep next to each other on the same bed in Jaehyuns room. Taeyong was wide awake however, laying upon Jaehyuns chest. Staring out the window, the moon shown on Taeyongs face. He was thinking about their future, now that he was assured they have one. Maybe it would be more common for tramps like him to marry into royal families, and maybe people would be more open to it. Or maybe they would disagree with it, and bash it for being a thing. That's what scared Taeyong the most, however, he knew he was never going to lose Jaehyun. No matter what happens, he knew his lover would be there right beside him.

With a small smile, Taeyong closed his eyes slowly and let the warmth of Jaehyuns chest engulf him. Drifting of into dream land.
