72.Wenhan (UNIQ)

"Young mistress, it's time to wake up." You shuffled around in your bed and whined. "I'm still tired." You said. Min smiled. "I know my lady, but your mother would like you down for breakfast. You have some special visitors today." You sat up. "Visitors? Who?" You always got excited when people came to the manor. You have a younger brother, but he's way too young to really relate to him, so you can get pretty lonely. "You'll have to go downstairs and find out." Your maid, Min, got you ready for the day and you made your way to the parlor where your parents were sitting across from three strangers: a man, woman, and what seemed to be their son. "Oh good, you're awake. Come." Your mother gestured you over to them and the visitors stood up to greet you. "Lord and Lady Li, this is our daughter, (y/n). She's a very bright young girl, very intellectual for her age. (Y/n), this is Lord Li, Lady Li and their son, Wenhan." "It's very nice to meet you all." You said with a curtsy. Lady Li smiled brightly. "Very well-mannered I see. It's nice to meet you too, darling. I think you would be the perfect girl for my son to court." "Court?" You looked at your parents. "Yes, dear. You see, Wenhan is about to be of age to be able to inherit his family business. But the only way for him to be eligible is if he marries." Your mother said. "Marries?" You asked quietly, eyes wide. You looked over at Wenhan with a slight blush creeping on your cheeks. He looked back at you and you quickly looked away. You could see him grinning out of the corner of your eye. "Yes. You are becoming of age too, so The Li family, as well as us, though it would be good if the two of you got married. And we are already looking for a girl your brother can marry when he comes of age so he can inherit our family business." She said. You just nodded once. "(Y/n), Wenhan, Min will take you to the dining room for breakfast so you two can get acquainted." Min came over and gestured for you to follow her. You and Wenhan walked awkwardly next to each other until you entered the dining room. "Please, have a seat. The chef will be here shortly." Min gave you a wink then left the room. It was quiet between you and Wenhan for a minute until he spoke. "You look very lovely, (y/n)." He said, making brief eye contact. "Thank you. You look very handsome." It couldn't have been more awkward. You were relieved when you saw the butler come in pushing a cart of food, the chef behind him. "For breakfast this morning is (y/n)'s favorite. French toast made from the freshest French bread, strawberries picked from our very own garden and sausage seasoned with the finest of ingredients. Not to mention orange juice squeezed first thing this morning from the ripest oranges. Please enjoy." The butler placed the plates in front of you with a cup of orange juice and a cup of water. You and Wenhan were sitting across from each other and you stole a glance at him. You started eating and felt Wenhan looking at you. You looked up and saw him looking, but he didn't look away. You grinned and looked back down. "You are very beautiful when you smile." He said. You blushed. "More beautiful than the sunrise." You giggled at his cheesy attempt at flirting. "Do you say that to all the girls you meet for the first time?" You asked. "Yes, but it's different this time. Those girls I only said it to just to make them feel good. I mean it with you." "Well that's reassuring." You said sarcastically. After breakfast, you and Wenhan took a walk in your garden. You had your little parasol to protect you from the sun and your arm linked with Wenhan's. "Let me hold it. A gentleman should always take care of his lady." Wenhan took your parasol and held it over you. "Why thank you." You walked slowly through the paths and breathed in the fresh air. "Tell me, do you know why our parents chose for us to be married? And why your parents didn't choose another girl?" "Well from what I know, our parents have known each other for a very long time. They planned for us to marry a long time ago. We just haven't met until now." "Oh." Was all you said. "Do you not want to marry me?" He asked, kind of hurt. "No no! I-I do, I was just wondering why we didn't meet sooner." He smirked. "So you do want to marry me?" "Well, do I have a choice?" He suddenly stopped walking and looked hurt. "I didn't mean it like that. I just mean, you know, we are being arranged to marry. Not that you aren't a wonderful person, I-I just don't know you." You said quietly. "Oh, no, I understand. But we have plenty of time to get to know each other before we get married." He wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you closer. "I'm sure we'll get to know each other real well, real soon."
