45. Kevin (U-Kiss)

"I'll be with you. Always." He said. "Promise?" "I promise." That was 10 years ago. Now you are living happily with your new boyfriend. You still think about the promise that your best friend Kevin made to you when you were young, before he moved away. You stayed in the same town your whole life. As you grew up, you realized what a stupid promise that was, you were only kids. You didn't know any better. You missed him terribly, but you couldn't do anything about it. You didn't know where he was or if he was married or not, so you had to forget about him. You moved on by now and are in a serious relationship with a man you think you're in love with. He's been there for you for the past 5 years. He asked you to be his girlfriend and you said yes, but you got in a fight and haven't been talking for a few days. You needed to get away from people so you went out and grabbed a coffee then sat outside. The stress from the fight set in and you took a deep breath. You were pulled back to reality when someone kicked your chair. You opened your eyes and saw a man. "I'm sorry." He said. He was about to walk away but kept staring at you. You shifted uncomfortablely. "Sorry for staring, but do I know you?" He asked. You slowly shook your head. "Uh, I don't think s-" You gasped. "K-Kevin?" His eyes widened. "(Y/n), it is you! I wasn't sure so I had to ask." You smiled and stood up to hug him. "I haven't seen you in years! I missed you." You said. "I missed you too. I'm so happy to see you." You pulled away and he sat down across from you. "Where have you been?" You asked. "We moved to Korea and I moved back here after college. What about you?" "I've been here the whole time." "Wow," he looked at your hand that was resting on the table. "Are you married?" He asked, looking at the ring on your finger. It was a promise ring that your boyfriend gave you and you ment to take it off. "Uh, no. It's just a ring, I didn't realize I put it on this finger." You said. He nodded. "What about you, do you have a girlfriend?" "Nope. Single. I'm trying to get my career started before I settle down." You smiled. "That's smart." There was a pause. "So, are you seeing someone?" "Um, yes, but we're taking a break." "Wow, I'm sorry." "Don't worry about it." There was a pause. "Are you busy today?" He asked. "No." "Let's get lunch then." He said. You two walked a little ways down the street to a small diner to eat. After catching up and joking around for a half hour or so, things became serious. "(Y/n), the real reason I came back was to find you." You looked up from your plate. "What? If that's the case then why didn't you come sooner?" "I didn't have any money to fly back here and my parents wouldn't give me any because they wanted me to stay and live in Korea for the rest of my life." "Why not?" He shook is head. "Something about wanting me to marry a traditional Korean girl. They set all these rules and guidelines for me so they could run my life, so I worked. When I earned enough money, I left." "How did they take it?" "They weren't happy. But they'll get over it. I am still their son after all." "Anyways, what's this about trying to find me?" "I missed you a lot. Out of all the people I've ever known, I was the closest to you. And to tell you the truth, you were my first crush, my first love actually." "So what? You were going to come here and confess to me hoping that I would feel the same?" "Uh, kind of." "Well I'm in a serious relationship, Kevin. To tell you the truth, I did feel the same. It's too late though." "I know what now. Maybe I didn't think this whole thing through. You said you were taking a break anyway." You paused. "That's right. Honestly, I was thinking about breaking up with him. We fight all the time, I'm not happy like I used to be with him. What sucks the most is that I live with him so I have to go home an see him." He reached over and grabbed your hand. "Spend the night with me then." He said. "W-what?" "Spend the night at my apartment tonight." "Okay." Later, you went back home to pack an overnight bag, your boyfriend wasn't home so he didn't bother you asking where you were going, then you went to Kevin's apartment. "I just moved in so it's bare in here and I still have to unpack." He said. "It's fine." You said, breathing in the scent of fresh paint. The whole night was spent laughing and watching movies. You haven't been truly happy in a long time. That was until your phone rang. Your boyfriend. Your finger hovered over the red button, then made up it's mind, sending him to voicemail. Not even 10 seconds later, he called you again. That was when you angrily turned your phone off making Kevin laugh. It was midnight and your eye lids started getting heavy and you rested your head on Kevin's shoulder. A few minutes later, you heard the tv cut off and felt yourself being carried at set on a bed. Kevin pulled the covers up then laid next to you. You felt him kiss your forehead before you fell asleep. The next morning, you woke up first and saw Kevin sleeping peacefully beside you. You smiled and combed his hair softly with your fingers then went to the bathroom. When you came out, he was still sleeping so you went and grabbed your phone off the coffee table and turned it on. You didn't believe how many calls and texts you got from your boyfriend. You read the most recent text what was from an hour before. 'Meet me at our special spot in the park at noon.' It said. It was already 11 so you went to get dressed. "Going so soon?" Kevin asked, rubbing his eyes. "I didn't plan to, but my boyfriend wants to meet up with me in an hour. I better go see what he wants." Kevin slowly nodded. "Right. Wouldn't want to keep him waiting." He said softly. "Um, do you want to come with me?" You asked. He looked at you. "What about your boyfriend? I don't think he would want me there." "Don't worry about him." He agreed to go with you and he drove you to the park. "Wait here, I'll make this quick, I promise." You got out of the car and walked to your boyfriend who was waiting paciently. "(Y/n), I would ask why you haven't returned any of my calls and texts, but I'm putting that behind us now. I know I've been a jerk, and I'm sorry. I called you here because I wanted to prove to you that I love you." He suddenly got down on one knee." 'Oh, god.' You looked over at Kevin who was watching with wide eyes. "No." You said. He laughed. "What?" You backed away as he stood up. "I said no. And actually, I'm breaking up with you." He scoffed. "What!?" You looked back over at Kevin and your boyfriend followed your eyes. "It's him, isn't it." He spat. When you were searching for words, he grabbed your shoulders and shook you. "Isn't it!" You shook your head. "He has nothing to do with this! I said no because I'm tired of you hurting me all the time!" You yelled. "Bullshit!" He pushed you away and slapped you. You froze and held your cheek. The next thing you knew, you were being dragged away and your boyfriend was laying on the ground with a bloody nose. Kevin put you in the car and buckled your seatbelt before driving back to his apartment. "It still can't believe he did that too you. I would never hit you, or any woman for that matter." Kevin said, sitting next to you on the couch. "I don't care anymore, because it's over. I ended it." You said quietly. There was act by morning long pause. "Let's elope." He said suddenly. You looked at him and raised your eyebrows. "What?" "Let's go somewhere and get married." He said. You smiled. "What happened to wanting to get your career started first?" "I just said that so you wouldn't think I was a loser" You both laughed. "Okay." You said, nodding. "Really?" "What have I got to lose?" He smiled. "Where do you want to go?" You put your hand on the back of his neck and brought him close then kissed him. "Anywhere, as long as I'm with you."
