seven
The clock struck nine and Jimin was sitting on his couch, staring at the wall. Yoongi hadn't shown up, or even called him with some shitty excuse. Uri had spent hours primping him, even insisting on painting his nails, but that's where Jimin drew the line.
Uri crawled onto her brother's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck. "It's alright, he had cooties anyway."
Jimin laughed dryly and let his sister crawl all over him, trying to distract him from how upset he was. His mom walked downstairs with a laundry basket in her hand. "Jimin, back already?"
"Never left," he said. He checked his phone again, but his notifications were still blank. There was a frantic knock on the door and Uri ran to open it. Jimin got up after her and groaned, "Uri, you know you can't answer the door by yourself, it might be a--"
Yoongi stood on his doorstep, holding a sunflower. "Hi. I'm sorry." Uri backed up slowly, trying not to interfere.
"Hi. I don't care." Jimin said. He went to shut the door but Yoongi shoved his foot in the way before it shut all the way. "What?"
"At least walk with me, let me explain." Yoongi begged. Jimin sighed and opened the door enough for him to slip out. He shut it quickly behind him and looked at Yoongi expectantly. "Right, okay."
The two boys started walking down the sidewalk, Yoongi awkwardly holding the sunflower and Jimin with his hands shoved in his pockets. "When you came in with Uri today, apparently my manager was listening and he remembered that day that you said Uri was in town and so he got mad that I lied and I had to stay until close."
Jimin looked at Yoongi like he was an idiot. "Then why didn't you text me and tell me that, idiot." Realization dawns on Yoongi's face and he felt like smacking himself.
"That would have been such a good idea, why didn't I think of that." Yoongi muttered to himself. Jimin laughed and reached across Yoongi to grab ahold of the sunflower.
"Yeah, yeah it would have been." The boys turned into the park and headed towards the swings. Yoongi glared at the ducks as they walked past the pond, silently daring them to mess with him.
They sat in silence for a moment, both contemplating what to say. "Your sister has good taste, by the way. You look good. Sorry I'm still in my uniform."
Jimin looked down at his hands. "Thanks."
"Okay, what about this, tomorrow I'll actually take you out. I don't work, so I can be here whenever you like. Or not at all, I understand that."
"I feel like if I didn't agree to go back out with you my sister would hurt me, so I'll see you tomorrow at three. Please don't be late this time."
—
Jimin paced in front of the door with Uri sat on his shoulders, making sure one hair doesn't fall out of place. It was two fifty and Jimin was anticipating Yoongi to be late again.
"Jiminie, I'm going to need to you to stop, your hair is falling out of place." Uri grumbled. There was a knock on the door and Uri squealed loudly. Jimin opened it and Yoongi was stood there, staring down at his hands nervously.
"Hey," Yoongi said, smiling at Jimin. Uri waved at him and grinned happily. Yoongi waved back and watched as Uri leant over Jimin's head to get in his face.
"So here's some rules, the first one is that you guys have to be back before dinner because Jiminie promised he'd play with me while mom makes dinner, and the second rule is that you can't get your cooties on my brother because he's the only boy that I'm allowed to be around and I don't want you to ruin that for me." Uri counted off the rules on her fingers and looked back at Yoongi. "And that means kissing, Yoongi. No cooties."
Yoongi saluted her, "you got it, Uri. No cooties." Jimin put his sister on the ground and ran his hands through his hair, making Uri slap his arm. "You ready, then?"
"Yeah, let's go." Jimin walked behind Yoongi to his car, heart beating a million times a minute. Yoongi opened his door for him and Jimin forgot to duck his head. He slammed his forehead on the doorframe and groaned loudly.
"Oh my god," Yoongi bent over and put his hands on his knees, laughing loudly. "Jimin, Jesus Christ. Are you alright?"
Jimin rubbed his head and pouted his lip. "You're so mean to me."
"I asked if you were okay!" Yoongi defended himself. Jimin rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, after you stopped laughing." He said. Yoongi pushed him into the car and shut the door. Jimin looked around the car, noticing a book bag and blanket folded neatly in the backseat. As Yoongi started to pull out his driveway, Jimin pointed to the bag. "What's that for?"
Yoongi glanced behind him and smiled. "It's a surprise, you'll find out later. But, I was listening to some more of the Chinese music–"
"Do you mean Korean?" Jimin asked, chuckling to himself.
"Right, yeah, whatever. But I was listening to it, and some of it's alright. I still don't like the cowboy in space people though. All their videos make me feel like I'm on drugs." Jimin laughed and nodded, Big Bang's videos made him feel like that too.
"So, where are we going?" Jimin asked, wringing his hands together excitedly.
"I'm not telling you," Yoongi said. He pulled into a parking spot and grabbed his book bag out of the backseat. "We'll have to walk a little, I hope that's alright."
Jimin and Yoongi started walking down the street in silence, Jimin zoning out and Yoongi focusing intently on his phone. Jimin shivered and moved closer to Yoongi.
"Yoongi I'm cold," Jimin whined, wrapping his jacket tighter around him.
"Well, we're almost there." Yoongi said. He turned another corner and Jimin put his head on Yoongi's shoulder.
"But Yoongi I'm cold now."
"Oh my god, here, now shush I need to make sure we go the right way." Yoongi said, taking off his jacket and wrapping it around Jimin. Jimin smiled to himself, happy that he got what he wanted.
Jimin poked the book bag, still wondering what was in it. "So, what's in the bag?" Jimin asked.
"Jimin I already told you, I'll tell you later. Now seriously I need to concentrate." Yoongi said. He looked back down at his phone and pulled Jimin around another corner.
"Yeah, but–"
"Jimin I swear to god if you don't shut up I'll rip your balls off."
"...Kinky."
"I hate you." Yoongi said. He looked up and smiled. "But we're here, so come on." Jimin followed closely behind Yoongi into the building. "You sit on this bench, I'll be right back."
Yoongi came back with a grin on his face and two tickets in his hand. "No we're going to get to see ducks without almost dying."
Jimin rolled his eyes and got up from the bench. "You're overreacting, you didn't almost die."
Yoongi scoffed, "you were asleep, you didn't see the way they were trying to eat me!" Jimin laughed and they walked into the aquarium. He immediately ran over to the turtles and pressed his face against the glass. Yoongi smiled, watching as Jimin poked at the glass like a little kid.
"You know, Yoongi, you look like a turtle." Jimin said. Yoongi glared at him and crossed his arms over his chest.
"I should have let the ducks eat you." He muttered. He turned his head away from Jimin, but the younger was already on to other things. "Where are you going?"
"Yoongi look at these fish! Look at all the colors!" Jimin grabbed Yoongi's hand and started running towards the tanks of fish. People stared at them, wondering why two bright haired boys were running through the aquarium. Jimin didn't care, he'd never been to an aquarium before.
Yoongi pointed to a bright red fish, "that one looks like you." He said. Jimin kicked his leg, but didn't say anything.
"Look, you can touch them over there." Jimin whispered, pointing to a place where a bunch of kids were lined up to let sharks. "Let's do that."
"No, absolutely not the shark will bite my hand off." Yoongi said, trying to pull Jimin in the other direction. "Look, more turtles, you can make fun of my some more."
"Oh come on, don't be a baby." Jimin said. He dragged Yoongi over to the sharks and forced his hand into the water. Yoongi had his eyes squeezed shut and Jimin laughed at him. Jimin guided his hand over to one of the little sharks and ran Yoongi's hand over it, making the older boy shriek.
"I hate it, I hate it, I hate you." Yoongi muttered, clenching his hand shut. Jimin carefully stretched his fingers back out and wound them between Yoongi's. He put their hands back in the water and Yoongi reached over and pinched Jimin's hip. "I hate you."
Jimin ran their hands over a shark and laughed, "see, this is fun. Open your eyes." Yoongi opens one of his eyes to see Jimin smiling happily at him, his eyes bright.
You're so cute, Yoongi thought to himself. A little girl bumped into his legs, knocking him off balance. Jimin grabbed onto Yoongi's shoulders to keep him from falling into the tank.
"And I need all the help I can get," Jimin said. Yoongi flicked his forehead and they moved on to the Penguins.
"You know, I think I like ducks better behind glass." Yoongi said, tapping his finger at the birds.
"Yoongi, those aren't ducks. They're penguins." Jimin laughed loudly and Yoongi glared at him. Jimin just smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
"Why are you being so mean to me today? Telling me I looked like a turtle, making me pet a shark, and now telling me that that," Yoongi pointed to the corner of the cage, where there was most definitely a duck sat on a rock. "Isn't a duck. I think you think I'm stupid."
Jimin looked up at Yoongi and shook his head, "I don't think your stupid, I never said that."
Yoongi clicked his tongue. "Ah, but you implied it. I think I'll just leave you here." Yoongi started to walk away and Jimin chased after him and jumped on his back.
"Don't leave me," Jimin whined. He wrapped his arms around Yoongi's neck and put his chin on his shoulder. Yoongi grabbed onto Jimin's thighs to keep him from falling off of him.
"I don't know, I'm sure you could find some nice person to drive you home." Yoongi said, shrugging his shoulders. Jimin reached up and blindly tried to flick Yoongi's nose, but missed and stuck his finger up his nose. "What are you doing."
"Just getting comfortable." Jimin said. Yoongi turned his head and glared at him, and Jimin pulled his finger out of his nose. "Sorry."
"Definitely leaving you here."
