Between Sea and Land: Part 4
Asami sat on the edge of the boat, about to take another dip. The second her body hit the water, something hit back. Well, someone. It was a good thing that Asami was planning to take a long swim, because she had an air mask on. She was about to pull out a shock rod, but she noticed the blue tail before she did. "Asami I need your help," Korra said quickly.
"What happened?" Asami asked after she came above the water.
"The Shark King happened," Korra said, following Asami.
"I won't be able to talk underwater, and I need to come back up every twenty minutes," Asami explained, and Korra nodded.
Korra grabbed Asami's hand as they dove back into the water. They swam in unison, Asami a little bit behind Korra, who was pulling her along. Then an arrow was shot past Asami's head, and Korra pulled her in to her to protect her. Asami nodded, and Korra led her back to the cave where the fight was going on. Asami pulled out an underwater gun that Korra hadn't seen before, and shot it at one of the sharks. It fell, dead. Asami repeated this until the she had to go back up for the air mask to refuel on air. Korra followed her, and watched to make sure that no sharks came after her. A few did, but Korra cut them off before they could get close to Asami. They then headed back down, making sure to avoid arrows and electricity. Korra's father turned to the two, seeing how human and mermaid fought side by side. He called Korra over, leaving some dolphins with Asami. "What is she doing here?"
"She's here to help! We actually have a reason to fight, even if it isn't the humans!"
"And what would that be?"
"Your brother has killed way more of our people and creatures than the humans. The War of Water? Hundred Years of Flooding? Any of this ringing a bell?"
"But what about our original problem?"
"The fact that humans eat the same as we do?"
"This discussion is over! We kill her tonight! If the sharks and eels don't do that for us!"
"What if we win because of her?"
"She's dead!"
"I'm not killing her!"
"I will! I'm the king, and I'm not afraid to kill a simple human!"
Korra backed away, not believing what she was hearing. She shook her head, and swam back to Asami just as a shark was swimming to attack behind her. Korra drew her spear, and swam into the side of the giant shark. It died immediately, and Asami nodded her thanks to Korra. They both then heard a scream, and looked to where Tonraq was. An eel was wrapped around his neck, another wrapped around his tail. Soon, he wouldn't be able to breath or swim away. Korra sped to him, but he was too far. A shark came at Korra, biting into her side with its multiple rows of teeth. She screamed along with her father until they were both on the verge of passing out, or worse. On the sideline, Asami was fighting off sharks and eels alongside other mermen and dolphins. But she did hear the screams, and it pained her to hear Korra scream with such pain in her voice. Soon a flash of whit pierced all of their eyes, but it wasn't death. When the white went away, only Asami, the mermen, mermaid, and dolphins were left. The other creatures were laying on the floor, dead. Asami sped up to the surface of the water, with Korra's help of course. "What did you do?"
"Remember that glove I shocked you with?"
"Sadly."
"I don't have to say the commands, but I can type them," Asami explained. Korra gave her a face that she got it.
"We need to get you somewhere saf-"
Too late. Tonraq exploded above the water behind Korra, staring the duo down. "The merpeople thank you for your contribution, human," he said. Korra swam below the water, waiting for a strong storm of anger to build up. But it didn't. Korra moved to look up and see what was happening, but saw no wild waves or clouds. The sky was actually sunny. She came back above the sea level, curious.
"What's going on?"
"Your father has invited me to the merpeople tribe," Asami said, smiling.
"Dad, how's that possible? The only person able to transform humans into mermaids are your brother, and the Avatar! And why didn't we kill your brother?"
"My brother is evil , I know. But if we take him out, there will be rebellions all over our land. E can't risk that. But Korra, there's something we've been keeping from you," Tonraq said. "You're the Avatar. Raava was reborn into you," he said.
"Really!?"
Korra smiled, and swam under the water, then coming up and swimming into Asami, hugging around he girls waist. They laughed together, until Asami realized that she was laughing underwater. She looked around, and at herself. She had a red tail, and small red scales running up her arms and face. She took off the air mask, and threw it aside. She was not going back to air. Ever again.
