OHSHC: Episode 17
Konoka's POV
It's still the holidays and I am at the product expo. Haruhi was gonna come with me. But had to cancel as she is unwell. She encouraged me to go though and gave me some of her money. So that I could get a few things for her. So I got dressed in my purple shirt and denim jeans. Leaving my long hair down. It's gonna long over the break and now nearly reaches my hips. Before break, is was just below my shoulder blades.
Anyway, I was just deciding where to go first when I saw him. "Kyoya" I say surprised and he turns to look at me. He looks a little disheveled, like he only just got up. His hair looks like it hasn't even been brushed. Though it makes him look hotter then usual. "Why are you here?" I ask him confused fighting back a blush.
"Konoka, how much money do you have on you?" he asks me. I frown on confusion, then hear his stomach rumble. Oh, he must be hungry. But why would he come here without his wallet? Something tells me this is Tamaki's fault.
"A little of mine and Haruhi's, are you hungry?" I ask him. He nods. I take him to the food court and he takes us to the fast food restaurant. "Are you sure you wish to eat here? There's a proper restaurant upstairs" I tell him.
"We don't have a choice since you don't have that much money on you, right?" he asks me. I bow my head. "Ah, remember to ask for a receipt. I'll get Tamaki to pay ten times the amount afterwards" he tells me.
"I'd be fine with just the amount I pay, no need for ten times" I tell him.
"Don't complain Konoka" he tells me. I frown, he seems to be in a bad mood. I guess Tamaki dragged him out of bed and here. Maybe I should have stayed home to look after Haruhi. "Konoka, how do you place an order?" he asks me.
"I'll order for us, do you know what you want?" I ask him.
"Whatever's fine. Get me something big" he tells me. I nod and point out a couple of things to the cashier. While also asking for some fries. Just then the girl serving us notices Kyoya and gives him a flirtatious smile.
"Welcome! We'd also like to recommend our new dessert" she tells him.
"No, I'd rather not have sweets" he states. I nod my head in agreement. Though the cashier wasn't paying attention to me at all.
"Then how about our new kind of shake?" she asks him.
"I said I don't need it" he tells her annoyed. Glaring at her.
"Just the food please" I tell her politely. "Oh, could you also give me the receipt please?" I ask her. She nods and tells me the order. I pay and she gives me change along with my receipt. Saying our food would be brought out to us. Which is was. "Kyoya, I know you are upset. But that doesn't give you the right to take it out on others. She was only doing her job" I tell him. As we eat.
"Excessive service isn't always the best method to deal with customers" he states and takes a bite of his burger. I just watch him, I'd never seen him eat without a knife and fork before. It's a little bizarre. "What?" he asks me.
"Nothing, I just never seen you eat like this before. I'm sure you are used to more classy places and this food isn't your usual taste" I state. As I help myself to the fries.
"In fact, they don't, but did you think I was the unreasonable kind of person that would complain when someone is treating him?" he asks me.
"No, but Haruhi probably would think that" I admit. "Don't tell her I said that though" I add.
"Secret is safe with me" he states. "Besides, the selling point of fast food is that it can be eaten quickly with our hands, right? Eating it that way will ensure the best taste" he adds.
"If you say so" I say with a shrug. "I am glad though" I tell him.
"Why?" he asks me.
"That you feel comfortable enough with me to eat so casually" I tell him with a soft smile.
"Just to make it clear, I meant that there's no merit for me to eat in a classy manner here. Being polite and mannered with you brings me no merit" he tells me and I frown. Feeling a little hurt. Just then a girl comes over asking if she can borrow the chairs we're not using. "Go ahead" he tells her.
"Thank you so much" she says with a smile. It's obvious she likes him. It's actually starting to get a little annoying seeing this girls fawn over him. But I have no right to be jealous. We're not dating after all.
"Don't mention it" he tells her. As I watch her go, I start to think how Kyoya is friends with Tamaki. It doesn't make much sense. "If you're wondering why I'm close with the likes of Tamaki" he says looking at me. "The answer is simple. There are merits for me. No other reason will move me. I'm an egoist" he tells me.
"I don't believe that, you may act that way. But you do have feelings Kyoya" I tell him. "Besides, if that were true. You wouldn't have helped by during those two thunderstorms or reminded Haruhi that she is a girl. And you wouldn't care what others think of you" I state. He becomes thoughtful as he continues to eat.
(Mini time-skip)
Instead of getting a taxi, Kyoya decides to explore the expo with me. "Black pearls from Ishigaki Island. Some high-class items we have here. Will anyone here be able to buy them?" he muses. As he looks at a pair of pearl earrings.
"Some can, how can you tell they are genuine?" I ask him curious.
"I've been educated that way" he reminds me. I nod my head. "It's not really something you need to bother knowing about, either. My family matters, that is" he adds.
"That's unfair Kyoya" I tell him. "You know who my dad is, what he does for a living. Who his work friends are, so why can't I know a little about your family?" I ask him.
"That's a rather interesting view" he states.
"Well I know you have two older brothers and a sister. What are your brother's like?" I ask him.
"They're very talented people. They meet all of my father's expectations without trouble. That's why he expects even more from his third son" he tells me.
"I'm sorry to hear that, you shouldn't have to live up to anyone's expectations, except your own" I tell him.
"You think so? I actually think there's not a game that could be more interesting than this" he tells me. I frown, he sees it as a game? Before I can ask, an elderly woman catches our attention. She is looking at some pottery.
"My, a work by Shouin Komatsu? To be able to see such great work in a place like this" she says. I frown as Kyoya walks towards the stand with a scowl on his face. I wonder why he is mad?
"Yes, Shouin Komatsu's works have great colors, don't they? To tell you the truth, these works aren't things that belong here. These are pieces that the Komatsu clan kept in private for generations" the salesman tells the woman.
"These are fake, madam" Kyoya tells her. As he joins them and I start to head over.
"Wh-What did you say? Stop telling lies, you little brat!" the salesman snaps. Kyoya picks up one of the bowls and inspects it.
"Although the way the blue is being brought out is similar to how Shouin did it, the real ones look duller at the base of the gradation, and the coating is also too exquisite" Kyoya explains as he examines the base with narrowed eyes.
"I'm going to report you for interfering with my business! What school do you go to, you delinquent?" the salesman demands.
"Ahh, I knew it. The way the mark is written over there is a bit different, too" Kyoya states. "The real ones would have documentation certifying their authenticity. Shall we get the handwriting analyzed?" he asks.
"I-I left it in the back of the store today" the salesman stammers.
"Well, if that's the case, my family has had a long relationship with the Komatsu family. Surely you wouldn't mind if I called them up right now to get confirmation, right?" Kyoya asks. And the salesman is taken away for trying to sale fake items. The elderly woman thanks Kyoya for saving her from making such a foolish mistake. She promised to visit one of his family resorts soon. Apparently she is a rich person who snuck out to see the expo.
Kyoya and I then continue to explore and he takes notice of a sweet stand. "Is melon that popular of a flavor among snack makers?" he asks me. "I'm not really knowledgeable in this area, but to make corn snacks taste like melon, since they're not actual melon, wouldn't it just feel weird eating these?" he asks.
"That's an interesting view" I tell him with a giggle.
"Was that supposed to be funny?" he asks.
"You claim you and Tamaki aren't alike. Then you say something he'd say" I tell him.
"I see. Tamaki and the twins would be happy to see stuff like this. All right, I'll buy it" he says and I give him my wallet. He made sure to get a receipt and we continue. I got what Haruhi wanted and I also got myself a book on forests.
"Where do you want to go next Kyoya?" I ask him with a smile. Before he can answer. The comm system comes on.
"This is a call for a lost child. This is a call for a lost child. Kyoya Ootori from Tokyo. Kyoya Ootori. Your guardian, Tamaki Suoh, is waiting for you at the second floor counter" the annoucer says. Then gives a description of Kyoya, who looks pissed at Tamaki again. We head to the second floor together and I see the rest of the host club there.
"Kyoya! You were safe!! Huh? But why's Konoka here, too? And where's Haruhi?" Tamaki asks.
"Kono-chan, let's play together!" Honey cheers.
"Yes, lets play" the twins agree.
"I would, but I am pretty tired and was thinking of going home now" I tell them. Tamaki introduces us to his new dog. A golden retriever called Antoinette. Then offers to give me a lift home as he has to take everyone else home anyway. I agreed and we leave. Kyoya gives Tamaki the receipts and tells him how much he owes me. Tamaki happily paid me back. I decide to put the excess money in the house savings, for emergency use. I thanked him for the lift once we reached my house and go inside.
"You're home later then expected" Haruhi says as I enter our room.
"I run into the club, it was quiet a busy day" I tell her. She coughs and check her temperatures. "You feel cooler" I state.
"Tell me about what happened" she says. So I do so. "So you had a date with Kyoya?" she asks me surprised.
"I wouldn't call it a date" I tell her trying not the blush.
"You eat together, went shopping together and were alone. Sounds like a date to me" she teases and coughs again.
"I have to make dinner" I tell her and get up. Leaving her to rest. I go make dinner for us and dad. Thinking about my day with Kyoya, was it a date? It didn't feel like one. Did Kyoya see it as a date? I doubt it, he probably wouldn't let a girl pay on a date. Oh well, we'll be going back to school Monday. Hopefully Haruhi will be better then. I wonder what adventure the club will have next?
