Pass or Fail: Survival Test!
"He's late!" Naruto grumbled. I sighed and placed my face in my hands. We were the only ones waiting for our new sensei. He was late.
It's annoying. Naruto started complaining to Sakura. I ignored most of it. "Hey what are you doing?" Sakura asked. I looked over to my brother.
My eye twitched. He is such a child. He put an eraser in the doorway. "That's what he gets for coming late."
"Naruto, you know I love you right?" I asked. He looked at me confused. "Yes?" I sighed and looked him dead in the eyes. "This is the stupidest prank you have ever pulled and it's not going to work. Do you really think the sensei in charge of three genin is going to fall for something like this? He's in charge of our lives."
He fell. What? It's true. It's not like it'll work. A man opened the door and the eraser fell on silver hair. I blinked three times. The man had a jonin vest on and a mask on his face, covering the bottom half of his face and his head band is tilted and covered his left eye.
He . . . he fell for it. How in the hell did someone entrusted with our lives fall for such a kindergarten prank. Naruto started laughing while Sakura was apologizing. I just sat there. What the hell?! This is ridiculous!
"Hm, how can I put this?" He put his hand to his chin in thinking mode. "My first impression of this group; you're a bunch of idiots." My head fell. Well then. Nice to meet you too, jerk.
So we went to the rooftop of the building. "All right, why don't you introduce yourselves one at a time?" our sensei asked boredly.
He seems so excited to meet us! NOT! "Introduce ourselves? What should we say?" Sakura asked. She did not ask that. It's so simple! "Things you like. Things you hate. Dreams for the future. Hobbies. Things like that."
"Why don't you tell us stuff about you first? So we can see how it works." Naruto asked. Oh my god. My brothers a moron.
But I did want to know. "Me? I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate. Hm I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future. Never really thought about it. As for my hobbies, I have lots of hobbies."
I almost fell. He cannot be serious. "That was totally useless all he told us was his name." Sakura whispered. Naruto and I nodded.
Totally. "Okay, your turn. You on the right, you first." He indicated Naruto. Naruto smiled and adjusted his head band.
"Believe it, I'm Naruto Uzumaki. I like instant ramen in a cup, and I really like the ramen Iruka-sensei got at the Ichiraku noodle shop. But I hate the three minute wait you have to do after you poor the water in the cup. My hobbies are eating different kind of ramen and comparing them. And my future dream is to be the greatest Hokage. Then the whole village will stop disrespecting me and treat me like I'm somebody important."
I watched him from the corner of my eye.
He's so adamant about it. Next was Sakura. "I'm Sakura Haruno. What I like-uh- I mean the person I like is-" She glances at Sasuke.
Oh god not this again. "Uh, my hobby is-uh." She looks at Sasuke and giggles again. I almost groaned. "My dream for the future is . . ." she giggles madly at this.
I sighed. This team will age me thirty years in a day I swear. "And what do you hate?" Kakashi asked. Uh-oh. She's going to say it. She stopped giggling and blushing. "Naruto!"
Naruto almost screamed as he went all sad. So Sasuke was next. "My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things and I don't particular like anything. What I have is not a dream because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan and destroy a certain someone."
Well then. Aren't you a little ray of sunshine? Not!
"Alright last one." He looked at me. I smiled. "I'm Miyuna Uzumaki. I like . . . well I don't really know actually. I'm not sure what all I hate either. Hm. My dreams? Well for Naruto to achieve his. And my hobbies-well I don't think I have any. Huh."
I know nothing about me. Well that's lame.
"Good. You're each unique and you have your own ideas. We'll have our first mission tomorrow." I ignored everything around me. I mean I heard the words they spoke more or less. Something about survival training.
Then he talked about only nine genin passing. It sucked, but it's whatever. If Naruto fails then I quit. Simple. Apparently we're candidates. We had to go to a designated spot at five a.m.
I was pretty nonchalant about it. I didn't particularly care. Even when he said no breakfast.
~~
We all met and arrived at the spot at the same time. Each of us tired. Well, Sasuke didn't show it much. I started nodding off when the light of day took over. "Miyuna? Are you alright?" Sakura asked tiredly.
I nodded off again. "Y-yeah." My eyes were forced to close and I fell forward towards Sasuke, who was in front of me. Last I saw were his arms catching me, then nothing.
After a while, my eyes fluttered open. It was to Sakura and Naruto yelling at Kakashi for being late. I looked up to see my head resting in Sasuke's lap. He looked down when he noticed I was awake.
I yawned loudly and sat up. "Morning." I mumbled rubbing my eyes. "Hn." Sasuke said as he stood and glared at our sensei. I had to wake up at three-thirty to get all the chores done and wake Naruto and prepare our lunch boxes.
So I'm tired. Kakashi gave an excuse about a black cat but I was too tired to catch it up. Then he put a clock out and was talking about taking bells.
In all honesty I was still waking up but I knew he was being cruel about the no eating policy and that one of us will get sent back to the academy.
So I got words here and there. What can I say? My body was still starting up. I only snapped out of it when he called Naruto the class clown, weakest link, and lowest score.
I glared at Kakashi. He looked a bit surprised. After all I'm usually smiling.
Especially when he caught Naruto easily and put the kunai to his head. Now that made me snap. I launched forward and flashed in front of him and punched him in the face. I had lots of chakra in my fist so he flew back a good distance.
He landed easy on his feet and rubbed his cheek. I stood protectively in front of Naruto and gave him my; 'go ahead and try. I dare you' look.
"Hm. Alright then. Start." I grabbed the back of Naruto's shirt and jumped into a nearby tree with Naruto.
"Het Miyu, what are you-mph!" I covered his mouth. "Shut up! We need to work together and get you a bell." He shook his head and jumped away. "Sorry sis! But I've got to do this on my own!" he screamed.
My eyes widened as Kakashi challenged him in taijutsu only to pull out a perverted book. And of course that riled up Naruto. And Kakashi was avoiding his punches and kicks easily.
All of a sudden he appeared behind Naruto, fingers pointed. My eyes widened and I flashed above them and landed on top of Kakashi, causing him to hit the ground, creating a crater due to my chakra empowered feet.
I jumped off of him and pushed Naruto behind me. I put my hands up in fighting position. "Naruto, I'm telling you we need to work together to get a bell for you. Come on." I muttered, my eyes never leaving Kakashi's figure. He got up and watched me curiously.
"Hm. If I'm right, you're his younger twin. Shouldn't he be the one offering you to get you a bell?" he asked curiously.
My fists clenched and more chakra entered my fists. He continued to watch me before putting away his book.
"Alright, let's do some taijutsu." He lunged at me and I brought my arms up and blocked his fist from hitting my face.
I then moved to the side and started fighting with him. We were going at it like that for a while. We were avoiding, dodging, and blocking each other's strikes. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!" Naruto yelled.
I groaned as Kakashi easily avoided and defeated his clones. Great. Now what? Well I'll go get some reinforcements. "Naruto, I'll get the others and come back with help." I shouted before jumping away.
I knew where Sasuke and Sakura were. I could sense their chakras. Well . . . smell them too. This is weird considering I couldn't before.
I jumped next to Sasuke in the tree he was hiding it. He jumped a bit in surprise at my speed. I gave him a closed eye smile before grabbing the back of his shirt and flash stepping in front of Sakura. She jumped too. I just gave her the same smile as Sasuke and grabbed her shirt and flash stepped in front of a strung up Naruto.
Kakashi's visible eye widened. He seemed surprised about my technique. I grinned. I found this one out in some documents I borrowed from the old man. It's the jutsu the fourth Hokage himself created. The reason he was called the Yellow Flash.
"That jutsu . . . where did you learn it?" He asked me suspiciously.
I shrugged, letting go of Sasuke and Sakura's shirts. "I read about it somewhere." I stated.
"Sakura, Sasuke, come on. Let's take him on together. Let's face it, if we try on our own. We'll fall behind."
Sasuke glared at me while Sakura looked at Kakashi then Sasuke. "I don't need to work together with you to get a bell." Sasuke said before jumping away. Sakura blushed at his words. "Wait for me Sasuke!" Then chased after him.
I fell. "Come on! I make an offer and you two reject it right away?! FINE THEN! I'll just get the bells for Naruto and I you jerks!" I shouted at the forest. I huffed and stood up before walking over to Naruto. I tilted my head to the side.
"Naruto, think fast!" I threw a kunai at his ropes and he fell and hit his head on the ground. I winced. "That looked like it hurt." I muttered.
I then turned to Kakashi. He and I were just staring at each other. I sighed. "Just because I couldn't get the others to join with me doesn't mean I give up. I know I can't beat you but that doesn't mean I'll give up. So go after them and I'll try to wake Naruto."
I turned and went to my unconscious brother. "You are a smart one." Kakashi said before disappearing.
I sighed. My team is going to be the death of me I swear.
I leaned Naruto against the stumps and went in search of Kakashi. Sakura's scream echoed throughout the forest.
Well I saw that coming. That's what she gets for not taking me up on my generous offer. In all honesty, I don't think anyone can get the bells.
I feel like this test is more than just bells.
I found Kakashi and Sasuke in a face off. Oh? He put his book up. I want to see how things turn out. Hm, he set up a trap huh? Nice one Uchiha.
He's not bad at taijutsu either. My eyes widened as he touched a bell. No way. I grit my teeth. Maybe . . . I could give him a little opening. He's not the only fast one.
I crouched and flash stepped in front of Kakashi. His visible eye widened considerably. "HAAAAAH!" I punched him with all my might and a chakra powered fist. He flew back and broke through a tree. I crouched and flash stepped behind him and snatched the bells and flash stepped next to Sasuke.
I grinned. I had punched him a pretty good distance and I got the bells.
I turned and smirked at Sasuke before holding up the three bells. His eyes were wide and Kakashi started walking my way.
"Well, you got the bells. Doesn't mean I won't try and take it back." He muttered. I shrugged. "If you can. Now if you excuse me, I have to give one to Naruto."
I faced Sasuke. "If you had joined me we could have gotten them together. But no! The almighty Uchiha is too good for an outcast. So if you want a bell, you're going to have to fight me for it. I won't give a bell to someone who doesn't deserve it."
He glared at me. "But you'll give on to Naruto. That's unfair to your statement. You're a hypocrite." I shrugged. "It'd be pointless if I passed and he didn't."
Then I turned to Kakashi and winked at him, then Sasuke. "Later!" I performed hand signs. "Wind Style: Twin Dragon Jutsu!"
Two giant Dragons came from me and chased each other in the sky, picking up high winds. I brought my hands down and a twister hit the area we were all standing on. I then flashed back to Naruto to see him tied up to a stump.
I blinked and sighed before putting a bell in his hand. His eyes widened. "You got the bells?!" I smiled and did a peace sign for victory. "You bet it!" I put one bell in my pocket and poofed the other in Sasuke's. As much as I hate to say it, he deserves it more than Naruto. Therefore it's only right if he gets it.
If I give the other one to Sakura that would leave me to failing. I can't leave and let Naruto go on dangerous missions. But it is unfair to Sakura. I sighed and poofed the bell in my pocket to Sakura's.
I'm way too nice of a person. I sat down next to a tied up Naruto and waited. Not long the bell rung and Kakashi poofed in front of us.
He just watched me, and I returned his stare with mine. Sasuke and Sakura eventually showed up.
Naruto laughed and opened his hand. "I pass! See, I have a bell!" Kakashi sighed. "Yes I see. Although you only got it because of Miyuna."
I shrugged and looked away. "Where are the other bells Miyuna?" Kakashi asked. So they didn't notice. I closed my eyes. "Ask Sasuke and Sakura. It should be in their pockets."
I opened my eyes to see Sasuke and Sakura surprised and holding up a bell. Then they looked at me questioningly. I turned my head away from their questioning gazes. "Even though you don't deserve them, just giving it to Naruto isn't fair."
"But, you'll go back to the academy." Sakura whispered.
I shrugged and leaned against the stump. "I go wherever Naruto goes. I don't care if I'm a ninja or not. I'll go anywhere he goes. It's not like I had my heart on being a ninja." I stated.
"Miyu." Naruto whispered.
"The only one who deserves a bell is you Miyu. So I'm only passing you."
I blinked and looked at Kakashi. What did he just say? "I won't send the rest of you back to the academy."
Sakura and Naruto started cheering. "The rest of you are being dropped from the program permanently."
Our eyes widened. What? Naruto's going to be dropped permanently? That means he can't ever become a ninja. Or Hokage.
Sasuke ran at Kakashi. He was boiling with rage. Of course Kakashi easily pinned him to the ground as if he was a bug. If the situation was different I'd be laughing.
"You think it's all about you." Kakashi started. Sakura snapped and brought out her more violent side. "Let go of Sasuke! You can't step on him like he's some bug!"
I think he just did Sakura. "You don't know what it means to be a ninja. You think it's a game huh?"
Sakura stepped back a bit. Well it's her own fault. "Miyuna was the only one who seemed to understand the meaning of the test. That's why she's the only one that passed."
I blinked before pointing at myself. "Eh? Me?"
He ignored me and kept on talking. "Why do you think we put you on squads? Did you consider that question?"
Sakura and Naruto seemed so confused, and I can see it on Sasuke. He can hide his emotions really well but I can tell. "I mean you never realized what this exercise is all about. Only Miyuna understood and she tried to ask you guys but you blatantly refused. Why do you think we have this many people on a squad?"
I thought about it. I passed because I asked. "Teamwork." I muttered. "Yes, that's right, teamwork!"
The others were surprised and dumbfounded. They seemed to only realize the word. So he purposefully pitted us against each other huh? That son of a-
"I wanted to see if you could overcome that and put the squad ahead of yourselves. A genin should have a natural feel for teamwork. But you, it only crossed Miyuna's mind, not the rest of you. Sakura!"
She jumped as he yelled her name. "You obsessed about Sasuke who was gone, while Naruto was right in front of you and you didn't lift a finger to help him. You even declined Miyuna's offer to team up and fight me."
She looked down ashamed. "Naruto. You do everything on your own. Everything. You even denied your little sisters proposal for help." Of course he does. We don't expect people to help us.
He wouldn't understand. And Naruto wanted to protect me this time. Because I'm always protecting him, he wanted to do something. "And you Sasuke thought the others were so far beneath you they were worthless. Arrogance."
"Missions are carried out in squads. Although you need individual skills, but teamwork is the most essential element. Every shinobi understands this. When individuals put themselves above the squad it can lead to failure and death. For example . . ."
Kakashi pulled out a kunai and held it to Sasuke's throat. "Sakura, kill Naruto now or Sasuke dies!" Naruto started freaking because he knew she'd do it.
I did too. I glared and flash stepped behind Kakashi and kicked. He jumped out of the way though. I grabbed Sasuke and flash stepped with Sakura and Naruto. I pushed Sasuke closer to Sakura and stood in front of Naruto. There. Now she won't try.
Kakashi sighed. "That's what happens on a mission." He said. He then walked to the giant K.I.A stone. And Naruto decided he wanted his name on the stone.
I shot my brother a glare. "Your name will never be on that stone. I'll make sure of it." I hissed. He looked at me surprised. "They were killed in action Naruto. I won't ever let your name be on that stone." I said to clear it up.
He seemed a bit taken back that the stone was for dead ninjas. Sadness crossed the atmosphere as we talked about the people who were on that stone.
"I refuse to pass if Naruto doesn't." I said, breaking the atmosphere. Everyone looked at me in shock, even Kakashi. "Miyu, don't let me bring you down!" Naruto yelled. I shook my head. "I don't deserve to be a ninja. A ninja lives to protect its village. The only reason I became one was to protect you when you're on missions."
I never wanted to be a ninja. Never. Kakashi and I were staring at each other for a while. "Alright, I'll give the others one more chance. But I'm going to make it much harder on you. You'll have three hours to get a bell."
So Naruto gets another chance. Sweet!
"Eat lunch now to build up strength but Naruto doesn't get any. It's his punishment for breaking the rules and trying to eat by yourself. And if anyone tries to feed him, that person will immediately fail. Miyuna, since you passed you don't have to get a bell. But if you feed Naruto I'll fail you disregarding the fact you already passed. I make the rules. You follow them. Got it?"
He then left and we started eating.
Naruto's stomach started growling extremely loudly. "This is no big deal! I can go without eating for days! For weeks! Believe it! This is no big deal!" he shouted.
I stood up and held a rice ball to his mouth. "Liar. You can barely go without breakfast, let alone lunch and dinner. I live with you; I know how long you can and can't go without eating."
He closed his mouth when I tried to feed him and shook his head.
I frowned. "Kakashi-sensei said not to feed him Miyuna." Sakura said looking around for Kakashi. Before I could reply Sasuke beat me to it.
"No, Miyuna's right. We need to get the bells as a team and if Naruto's hungry he'll be weak and ineffective. That hurts the team and jeopardizes the mission."
I smiled at Sasuke. He had a ghost of a smile on his face and offered some to Naruto. Sakura looked at her lunch before offering it to Naruto, claiming she was on a diet.
By now he's crying with joy. I giggled at the sight. It was funny. As soon as he took a bite Kakashi poofed behind us and it was dark and gloomy all of a sudden.
Uh-oh. "You!" out of sheer instinct I stood protectively in front of Naruto. After a second I pulled Sakura and Sasuke behind me as well.
What can I say? I'm a protector.
I narrowed my eyes at Kakashi. "You broke the rules. I hope you're ready for the punishment." He performed some hand signs and I got ready to flash step.
"Any last words?" he asked. Sasuke stood in front of me and glared dangerously at our sensei. Sakura was cowering behind me, thinking we were going to die. And Naruto was no better. "You said . . ."
"Yes?" Kakashi urged Naruto to continue. "You said that there are four of us! That's what you said! And that's why Miyuna, Sakura, and Sasuke-"
"We're all on this squad and we're all in on this together." Sasuke interrupted. Sakura stopped cowering and stood back up. "Yeah that's right! We gave our lunch to him because the four of us are one!" Sakura yelled.
I put my hands up. I had an enormous amount of chakra in my fists. "We're a team. I don't know about you sensei but I would never abandon a teammate in need!"
Kakashi examined us under his glare. I was a bit nervous. "That's your excuse? Hmpf. You pass." He gave us a closed eye smile. Huh?
Huh?! "You, pass!"
"What do you mean? How do we pass?" Sakura asked. He merely smiled. "You're the first squad that ever succeeded. The others did exactly what I said and fell into every trap. They couldn't think for themselves. A ninja must always see through deception. In the ninja world those who break the rules are scum, that's true. But those who abandon their friends are worse than scum."
He looked up at the sky. I wonder if one of his friends taught him that. He had a sad, yet happy look in his eye.
I smiled. He's not as bad as I thought. Naruto started shedding tears of happiness, Sakura was smiling, and Sasuke had a smirk/smile on his face. I giggled and threw my arms around Sasuke and Sakura.
"We passed!" I hugged them then untied Naruto and hugged him. "Squad seven starts its first mission tomorrow!"
We cheered. I'm happy. Because this is something Naruto as always wanted. Then we walked home. Maybe the future is going to be a bright one for us. Just maybe.
