Chapter 4: Naruto, I Like You

It's been a month since that evening in my dorm with all my friends and Naruto finally told us his back story. Ever since then, he and Sasuke became friends/rivals, fought everyday with Kiba about who's more stupid, bickered and teased with all the girls, exercised with Rock Lee, and even take random naps with Shikamaru during class time. (Temari and I have to find them and wake then up.)

Overall, he's been fitting in. The teachers "hate" him but we all know he's adored, despite the countless pranks he pulled on them.

The school year has been going perfectly for everybody.

Except for me.

~~~~~
"Hinata~" I could make out his voice no matter how many times he changes it.
I was with Shikamaru and Kiba, watching them play a game of Chinese Chess during our off period in the dorm room's lounge. We all looked up at the approaching footsteps.
"What's up, Naruto-kun?" I asked.
He jogged towards us panting. His black tie was tied loosely around his neck and dangled as he bent over to catch his breath.
He truly is a god.
"Can I talk to you for a sec?" He asked when he finally breathed normally.
Shikamaru piped up, "Whatever you need, you can talk in front of us."
Naruto looked from his lazy friend to the dog lover, "It's kinda private."
"Good, then we're bonding over a secret," Kiba moved a piece then turned a huge smirk at Naruto. "Let's hear it."
Naruto bent down so he was eye level with us, "Okay but you can NEVER tell anyone!"
He glanced at me, "Even Sasuke."
I nodded, "I promise."
He gave me a goofy smile, the same one that makes my heart melt every time.
"Thanks guys now," Naruto paused for dramatic effects. Kiba was leaning in and I could feel his breath over my shoulder.
"I have a crush," Naruto finished.
At this time, I remembered my heart fluttering with excitement for no reason. If only I knew then, I wouldn't have had my hopes so high.
"On who?" Shikamaru and Kiba were surprised.
For the first time since I met him, Naruto blushed. Like his whiskered cheeks became very red.
"On, um," and him getting nervous never happens.
My ex was getting impatient, "Spit it out, Naruto!"
"Sakura! I like Sakura!" He exclaimed, his voice bouncing off the walls of the lodge, loud enough for everyone in the dorms to hear.
That was when my whole body wanted to shut down. I nearly choked and my whole diaphragm felt like it was cracking. (I am such a nerd.)
Shikamaru blinked, "Haruno. Of all the girls at Konoha, you like Haruno."
"Don't rub it in, alright?" Naruto snapped. "It's just that, she was so nice to me before and she is really pretty so, you get it."
I casted my gaze down, still absorbing the dreadful information.
"You do know she's madly in love with Sauske, right?" Kiba pointed out.
Naruto's eyes widened, "You're kidding me, right? Hinata?"
I shook my head, "They're telling you the truth. She does love Sasuke, far more than just a friend. All the girls at school do, only hers is so much more deeper."
He sighed, "Don't tell me you're into that jerk, too."
"Of course not," I murmured. "He's a brother to me, never more."
Naruto's mouth formed an o as he nodded his understanding.
That's when I stood uo, ignoring everyone, and stalked towards my room without a single peep.
~~~~~
Thinking about what happened an hour ago, did it make me seem a little pathetic?

I rolled onto my side. I decided to skip the rest of the day which is totally not like me. But for some reason, tears kept rolling down my cheeks for the first five minutes. Then, it's me just staring at my dorm room wall and just thinking about why I felt the way I did when Naruto said he liked Sakura.

"Hey, Hyuga," the familiar voice made me crawl out from under my blanket, where I hid my face.

"What is it, K-Kiba? Shouldn't you be i-in school?" I peered at him. He was leaning against my doorframe with a small smile on his face.

He shrugged, "I decided I'd ditch with you."

"How did you g-get in?"

"For some reason, you and Sakura never changed your passcode to the door," replied my ex.

I sat up and fixed my hair, "Come i-in. I think I can steal some cookies from S-Sakura, she won't mind."

I climbed off my bed and searched around Sakura's bed to see if she hid any of her usually sweets around her bed. Maybe it's in her dresser?

"How long have you liked Naruto?" Kiba suddenly asked.

I stopped my searching process and looked at him with wide pale eyes, "C-come again?"

"You like Naruto," he sat down on my computer chair. "That part is obvious."

"I do n-not!"

Kiba's eyes narrowed, "You were never like this when we dated. You never sulked, you never skipped school when we broke up."

"That's because I b-broke up with y-you remember?"

Kiba shook his head, "You like Naruto as much as Sakura liking Sasuke."

I shook my head.

"Stop lying to yourself, Hinata!" His sudden outburst shook the room and me.

As quickly as the anger flashed through his face, realization passed as he growled a, "Sorry."

"It's o-okay," I answered. "I did like you, Kiba-kun. I did e-enjoy spending time with you."

Kiba looked hurt. "But it will never match up to the amount of love you have for our little bad boy, huh?"

I looked away from him, "I'm s-sorry."

I wasn't lying when I said I liked Kiba but he was also telling the truth when he said what I felt for him isn't as strong as what I felt for Naruto now.

"Oh well," Kiba sighed. "I guess that's what people called moving on."

I blinked at him as he continued with a very sad smile, "I just hope Naruto would realize it soon that you're worth more than anyone's life and just know I'll kick his little pretty ass if he ever puts you in this condition ever again."

I felt a smile twich on my face. Kiba is so good to me along with all the other guys. Thank you, whoever gave me a chance to steal each and everyone's juice box in 1st grade.

He ruffled his brown hair and stood up, "Now come on."

"W-why?"

"Naruto was worried sick about you so he sent me to check on you," Kiba admitted. "Let's get to Math before he has a mental breakdown."

At least he knew to worry about me.

"Alright, let's g-go."

~~~~~
Naruto's POV
"Hey Sakura-Chan," I murmured while our young teacher rambled on.
The said girl glared at me out of her eyes, "What?"
"Are you free tonight?" I murmured.
She glanced at me, wide eyed, "Why?"
"I wanna go grab some Ramen off campus with a buddy," I whispered, an eye on our teacher who has her back turned to the class.
"Are you asking me out, Naruto?"
I smirked, "Maybe I am."
Sakura shook her head, "I'm not going on a date with you."
Pain sank in my stomach, "Why not?"
"Because," Sakura sighed. "I'm sorry but I don't like you that way."
I sighed, "But you like Captain Perfect, do don't you?"
Her eyes widened as she found my sudden comment.
I sat up straighter and continued, "Don't start wondering who told me. I saw you making goo goo eyes at him the other day."
I thought I'd save the dog lover's butt since he did tell me that my competition is Mr. Basketball-Captain. What makes me mad is, besides Hinata, every single other girl I asked thinks he's cute or handsome or some kind of genius. I glared at the back of Sasuke's head as it nodded, understanding the procedure of the problem.
Speaking of which, where is Hinata? I'm worried since she ran off without saying anything during lunch earlier. I would've chased her if Kiba hadn't said he'd do it. Did she need to go to the bathroom so badly or something?
Even if she did, she wouldn't have taken most of the day off. Math is the last period for us and well, everybody else we hang out with. I don't get why...
"Sorry we're late, Hiroshi-Sensei," Kiba's sudden outburst turned everybody's attention towards the door of the classroom. In strolled Kiba, his hand wrapped securely around Hinata's smaller one.
Let her go! I wanted to yell.
Our teacher looked at them without a readable emotion behind his eyes, "Why are you two late? Correct me if I'm wrong but I do remember you two already ending any relationship you had during the summer?"
Shock gripped my throat when I registered what Hiroshi-Sensei was saying. Kiba and Hinata were an item?! They were dating... but then why are they holding hands like they are now? If holding hands is what exes do, I'd hate to see what couples do.
Still, something about the news and the sight made me feel... uneasy? No, more of like betrayed. Hinata has been everything to me since I got here; similar to the knowledgable and vulnerable sister one could have.
I could hear Sakura frantically talking to Tenten, who sat on her opposite side. Shikamaru shifted a bit beside me. I glanced at Sasuke but nearly jumped when he shot out of his seat.
"I sent them to get some food off campus since I wasn't craving anything from the cafeteria," said Sasuke, making the whole class gap around him (including me of course.)
Nonetheless, he continued with the lie, "So Kiba volunteered and Hinata just wanted to tag along. You did get me that American hamburger from the local fast food store, right?"
The two students looked so confused. Well, poor Hinata did, Kiba caught on pretty quickly.
"Yep!" he answered with a grin, "It's waiting for ya in your room. You better hurry before Naruto gets to it first."
Sudden attention was on me and for once in my entire lifetime, I had nothing to say.
