Chapter 11: Naruto Needs Time

Hinata POV

Naruto... Naruto... Naruto?!!!!

Why would this happen? How can this happen? No way...

"Sasuke-kun, c-can't you drive any f-faster?!" I yelled from the passenger seat.

"Yah! There's traffic, Bookworm!" my friend snapped, his fingers getting a little white. "I can't only drive so fast."

Sakura patted my shoulder, "He's going to be fine, Hinata. He will, just breathe."

How can I breathe, woman?! Some doctor at the emergency room of the hospital contacts you saying your friend has a fatal bullet wound, how do you expect me to breathe? What if it got infected before the ambulances got there? God, help me... I'm being to paranoid.

"We're here, Bookworm," Sasuke parked the car in front of the red entance labelled 'Emergency'.

"You can't park here, Sasuke," Sakura pointed out.

Sasuke sighed, "I'm dropping you girls off. Shikamaru and Temari are already in there but apparently Naruto woke up and was asking for you, Bookworm. You better hurry."

"I'll go with Sasuke, you run ahead," Sakura smiled at me.

I nodded my thanks to the new couple and exited the car. As I closed the door, Sasuke drove off towards the parking garage across the street.

I've always wanted to be a doctor, but I'll never be a doctor for the emergency room. Everywhere, panic and screams; beaps of IVs, and cries of many. I weaved my way among the chaos, looking for any familiar people I could know.

"Hina, over here!" Temari's voice waved at me. I nearly sprinted in her direction located before the emergency operating rooms. Shikamaru was standing beside her, shoulders touching with hands in his pockets, and eyes looking through the glass door.

I made it to my friend's side, "How is he?"

"The guy is fitter than a cow," Shikamaru sighed. "Made us worry for nothing. Though he's looking for you."

"I heard, Sasuke-kun told me," I glanced at Naruto, talking to a nurse and showing her his shoulder was fine. My heart ached when I saw the bandages covered up all of his upper chest and his shoulders. His abs were still showing though...

The nurse, a petite woman with black hair, glanced at me before quickly turning back Naruto. She said something really fast and left the room.

"Are you his girlfriend?" she asked me with a small smile.

"I, uh, I-" I blinked twice.

"Yes, yes she is," Temari slung a hand around my shoulders. "So we can take things from here."

The nurse gave a small bow before walking away. I didn't miss the little, "Lucky..."

I grabbed Temari's arm around my shoulder, "Why did you say that?!"

"That nurse's been in there for more than half an hour and let's not mention she used every stupid excuse to touch your man," my friend gave me a wink. "Now go talk to him. Shikamaru and I are gonna get some food."

"We are?" Shikamaru complained.

Temari grabbed his arm and they were off without another sound.

I glanced back at Naruto. Blue eyes met pale and I shivered. He gestured for me to come in. I stepped forward, the automatic doors slid open, I'm inside...

"Hey how you feeling?" I asked. "No infection?"

"Nope, strong and healthy," Naruto beamed rotating his arms once but then cringe in pain.

I was quickly in front of him, grabbing his bigger arms, "Don't. You'll open the stiches up again."

"Ah," he nodded and took my hand off his own. Disappointment surged through my body but I shaked it off.

"So why did you want to see me?" I asked.

"Oh that," Naruto looked at his fingers. "I... it's nothing. I just wanted to know if you're alright."

"Why wouldn't I be?" I asked.

He shook his head once, "I'm sorry I made you worry, Hinata. I saw a gun showdown happening and got in the middle of it. It's fine, I'm fine now. But the docs want to keep me because they want to keep a close eye on a muscle that might have been hit."

I nodded, "As long as you're safe."

He smiled, "I don't want you to worry so you can go back to school."

"You forgot, idiot," I giggled. "It's Sunday."

We heard something clash followed by some laughs and a single yell, there's also some scurring of footsteps.

"And I think everybody else aren't going to be leaving anytime soon."

~-~-~-

"Why the hell would you suggest this stupid game, Sassy?!" Naruto snapped. "Especially if it uses shoulder muscles to play!"

Ino shrugged, "I just thought you'd enjoy it since it is a game to test strength. Don't guys like that?"

"Not if they're injured, sweetheart," Sai... sighed. Ha, see what I did there. "If we're injured and there's a game to test strength, our condition just becomes worst."

Naruto, who looked like he wanted to kick Sai, Sasuke, and Kiba off his hospital bed, only growled. Ino was leaning over Sai as Sasuke and Kiba started throwing square pieces of paper on top of each other in order to flip one.

I was sitting on the one person coach; Temari and Sakura both on their phones occupied the armrests.

I pointed out, "Why don't we leave so he can rest a bit? He needs it."

Temari glanced at me, "You're right. Believe it or not, without his loud mouth around campus, it'll be too boring. Come on, Sai; let's go. You idiots, too."

Kiba pushed a hand into Ino's face to shut her up, "Hold on; I'm about to beat this guy. One more throw..."

I heard the slap of paper then a giant groan.

"We're leaving now," Ino pulled Sai from the bed. The poor guy barely caught his feet as she continued dragging him out of the room.

"I'm gonna go find Shikamaru," Temari streched, "I think he's napping somewhere."

"I'll go, too," Sakura was right on her tail.

Kiba literally dragged Sasuke off the bed, "When you've recovered, I challenge you."

"Hell, I'm not losing to a playboy like you," Naruto smirked. "Believe it!"

"Then you gotta heal, stupid," Sasuke said, yanking his arm out of Kiba's grasp. "We'll check you later."

When the last guys left, I find myself alone with Naruto. I had sensed earlier that he was almost avoiding me, never meeting my eyes when we talked and it seems like he was picking up my shuttering habit.

"I'm gonna head out, too," I stood up giving him the warmest smile I could musher up. "I'll swing by tomorrow to keep you company."

He looked away again, "Yeah, I'll see you then."

I didn't want to look hurt so I bit my lip, "Bye."

My hand was barely on the doorknob before Naruto whispered, "Wait, Hinata."

Moving around the curtain, I looked at him, "Yeah?"

"I'm sorry if I make it seem like I'm not acknowledging you," he sighed. "I didn't mean to. I guess you could say I heard something I don't think I was supposed to hear."

I blinked confused. Not supposed to know?

"Believe me when I say I'm not mad at you or planning to end anything with you, though," he chuckled. "We don't want a repeat of Friday, do we?"

"Yeah..."

"I know I've said it before but I still and will always need you to walk me along, Hinata," continued the bad boy. "Nobody will change that, even if it's your family."

My family?! How did he...

"I don't want to talk to you about it now," he cut me off when he saw my mouth open. "I need time... I just need time for everything, alright? Just give me time and we can be happy, I promise."

I could only managed a small nod before excusing myself. I didn't find any of my friends hanging out in the hallway. They've probably headed to the cars by now. Sasuke wouldn't leave me behind so I took my time.

I think... Naruto figured out my feelings for him. Question is, how? The guy is as dense as the Himalayas and I tried my best to hide all the feelings for him.

My phone buzzed and I picked up, "S-Sasuke-Kun?"

"Uh, where are you, Bookworm?" he coughed once.

"I just l-left Naruto-kun's r-room," I answered.

"Okay, could you head towards the main entarance, please?"

....

"You left m-me, didn't y-you?"

"Uh, I don't see you! Where are you?"

I sighed, "I-I'm going to run you over with your own car one day!"

"Hey we came back for you, okay? Now where the hell are you?!"
