Chapter 2: Contract Talking
Van scratched the back of his head, sheepishly, "So you do remember me."
"You were beaten to a pulp the first and last time I saw you. Not hard to forget," I snapped in English. "Why are you here?"
"Getting straight to the point," he adjusted his suit. "I like it. It's too awkward."
"Then just leave."
"No, no I'll stop talking, promise," he pleaded.
I sighed roughly. Last person I wanted to see right now. But if he doesn't sit and start talking, it's gonna take longer for him to leave. I gestured to one of the two visitor chairs in front of me for him to have a seat.
Van didn't waste a moment and accepted my offer. He laid a dark orange folder, similar to the ones I have around my desk, in front of him. I couldn't make out the crest mark of the hospital on the folder though.
"You're a scouter?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
He nodded, proudly, "Easy career and free travels around the world. I was able to go to Australia and Austria just a few days ago until I got your profile."
I continued signing the offer from England, "I bet you were all so happy to have seen my face on the document."
"Not exactly," he sighed. "More excited I got to put a name to your face. Neither my sister or Naruto told me when I asked."
My pen immediately stopped writing at the mention of his name. Naruto...
Van caught my reaction, "Oh uh... sorry. I-I forgot you umm."
I sighed roughly, "Forget it. You still haven't told me why you're here scouting me and for what hospital."
"I'm scouting you because you're one of the best emergency doctors out there," he said, his voice almost professionally done. "And I'm from, uh..."
"Spit it out," I demanded.
"Uzumaki Hospitals," he said almost too fast, hoping I didn't catch it.
Too bad, I did.
"No."
"What?"
"No," I repeated. "I don't accept your contract terms."
"But you haven't even seen the contract or even took the time to think about it, either!"
"Alright," I paused. "No!"
"Why?"
I'm angry now and I'm usually a very cool person.
"I have no flipping idea why you would even approach me with a contract," I started. "What make you people think it's okay to scout me for your emergency room. Tell Naruto I'm not interested, final."
"Naruto doesn't know, actually," Van said.
"Then who really sent you?"
"Um, Naruto did but the head of Hyuga Hospitals aka your father sent the information straight to me."
"Shhhh!" I snapped. "Nobody here knows my father owns this hospitals and the twenty others. I plan to keep it that way."
"Why? Aren't you proud that you got to work in Daddy's little hospitals?" he raised an eyebrow, a smirk creeped across his perfect face.
I wanted to punch his pretty face in. I didn't want the doctors and nurses around here to know I got my job because my father owned them. No, I got my job because of my own hard work, sweat, and forty hours of constant studying on weekends.
I sighed, "I'm going to have to reject your contract offer on a serious note, Van."
"Can I please get a legit explanation?" he leaned forward.
If Van wasn't such an asshole in the past, I would have to see he fits under 'sexy beast' section. But he was and maybe still is. This might just be a charm to keep his job.
"I like it here," I replied. "I moved out of Konoha because the drama around there was driving me crazy. I came here and became the youngest doctor of the time. This hospital, Seoul, Korea! It's all a refreshing start for me, Van. So can you please just let it go and find a different doctor to scout?"
The guy looked at me, "I don't think you have much of a choice, Dr. Hyuga."
"It's Dr. Lee here."
"Whatever," he waved it off. "Apparently, your father violated the little truce contract he had with Naruto. So, for the news not to break out to the media, he agreed to let one of his best doctors work for Naruto in one of the biggest branches in Denver, Colorado for like two years or so. Naruto did let your father choose the doctor, though."
"And he chose me..." I trailed off. I don't get it! I thought Father hated Naruto's guts. He was the happiest person ever when I told him I wanted to leave Konoha and have no more contact with Naruto. Now, he wants to send me to work for him!
I sat down in my chair, hiding my face in my hands. Eight years. For eight years I've avoided shedding tears about my breakup with Naruto. I tried moving on, I tried being happy and it worked. I dated some guys here and there, broke up, made new friends, and got into my dream college along with my dream job! Life was perfect, I was famous that I even friended a whole bunch of those Korean celebrities. I did tell you I had Bae Suzy's number, right? We sit down and eat lunch from time to time. Heck, I even sat to eat lunch with CL of 2NE1 once before (awesome person by the way. She's coming for you, America.)
"Hinata?"
"Give me time, Van," I asked quietly. "I need to think about it."
"I already told you, it's 100% that you're going," he replied.
"Then at least let me accept it," I said.
My Samsung buzzed beside my arm. I picked it up and examined the text.
3 way car accident (bus, semi, and SUV) Everybody injured! A few near death. Half being transported here, half to Seoul National University Hospital. The ones near death coming here. 5 minutes before arrival!
I groaned and leaned my head back. I need to focus on the patients instead of this stupid sudden contract offer. I can't let any emotion get in my way and I need to save lives now.
I stood up, button my lab coat, and headed towards the door.
"Wait, wait, Hinata where are you going?!" Van twisted in his chair.
"I have an accident to attend to," I turned my cold eyes to him. "I'm asking you to leave, Van."

Naruto's POV
"And she does it again!" The news lady on CNN said with a huge smile. Underneath her, the caption of Breaking News: Deadly Three Way Crash Should Have Killed 25 Killed None.
I leaned back in my office chair, watching the breaking news story with intense focus. My secretary, old buddy Jason standing next to me, also enjoyed the news story with me.
"Today at around lunch time, a speeding bus, semi, and an SUV met in an intersection downtown Seoul. Witnesses say that the SUV, carrying a family of four, flipped over more than once until finally hitting a tree. The Semi fell on its access as well and the bus landing on the hood of its body. The ambulance of the Hyuga Hospital arrived seconds later along with the ambulance of the Seoul National University Hospital. They were able to pry out everybody and luckily nobody dead at the time. The count included fifteen adults, five children, and five babies. The ones in critical conditions were transported to Hyuga while the others to the other hospital."
I leaned forward listening to the lady more attentively, "Hinata Lee or known for her other name as Satan got to work immediately, saving all the children and babies and her share of injured adults. She brought back to life those who others would claim as brain dead."
The screen switched to a Korean doctor who was able to speak English really well, "Many of the patients whom Dr. Lee saved had hit their head too hard to have been able to survive. Thankfully, they met Dr. Lee who didn't allow their brains to lose function on her watch. The patients are currently in the ICU under very close watchful eyes for twenty-four hours. Tests show, they are all on the correct path to recovery."
Finally the camera on a reporter, a man in his mid-thirties, standing outside in the Emergency Room entrance along with other reporters, "The Emergency room is packed with very, very thankful family members of these supposed to be dead patients brought back to life. There is to be a reward given to the legendary Satan of the Emergency Room after all has settled down tonight. Stay tune, for the award ceremony."
Just as the reporter finished his sentence, I was able to see the scrambling and screaming of feet behind him. The CNN camera man turned the camera to the the entrance of the Emergency room. My pen dropped onto my desk as I saw the face... the face of Satan in the Emergency Room. My whole body dropped into a black hole as I examined her appearance. She-she's so beautiful, still.
She was wearing a lab coat with blood spots scattered randomly. Her long raven hair tied in a high ponytail, her pale eyes widened as she scanned the crowd of reporters holding up mics and cameras towards her. A group of other doctors or interns maybe standing behind her with proud smiles. Satan looked surprised at the sudden attention of the reporters asked different questions.
I cursed at the CNN cameramen for not being able to get in close enough for me to hear her voice again. I grinded my teeth in frustration. Why the hell won't he get closer?!
"Prez, you alright?" Jason suddenly asked. I completely forgot my secretary was beside me.
I cleared my throat and picked up my pen, "Yeah, fine."
"Hinata's so pretty now, isn't she?" Jason asked.
I coughed, I can't let him know I'm affected by just a simple sight of her through television. The idiot would never let me live it down.
"I wonder if her awesomeness has changed?" he suddenly wondered.
"How would I know?" I replied, pretending to be scanning the sheet of... what is this again?
"No one asked you, Prez," Jason chuckled. "She was pretty chill and calm when I first met her. I was just wondering."
"Then why don't you go see her yourself?" I said between my teeth. I stole a peek at the TV, Hinata was smiling at a reporter, I had to advert my eyes then and there. Otherwise I'd tell Jason to take a picture of her smile for me to stare at for decades.
"You know what? I will, Prez, I'm going to take my two week vacation now," he moved towards the door.
"Wait, wait, I was kidding Jason! Hey! Get back here! I'm gonna fire you!"
But my secretary had already shut the door, laughing his brains out. God damn I hate him, but then I don't. He's harmless and playful but at the same time klutzy and dependable. No other secretary in the world can replace him.
I tried to return to whatever paper work I was working on before tiny little knockings caught my attention. The door opened and in poked the little blonde head of a girl. Her brown eyes looking at me, her whiskered cheeks raised in a huge goofy grin.
"What is it, Magnolia?" I asked, raising an eyebrow, "Daddy can't play with your right now. I have to finish some stupid paperwork!"
She opened the door and let herself in. My eight almost nine year old girl ran towards me and into my lap. I barely managed to catch her and my balance. Damn, she's a rough nut.
"I just got home from school, though Daddy," she whined. "And my math teacher gave me a homework assignment that is too hard! Can you help me with it, please Daddy?!"
I sighed, "The last time you made me help you with any homework, I ended up doing the whole thing."
"That was because you wanted to," she looked away with a chuckle. "Anyway, please Daddy?! Please!!!"
"Alright, alright, in a bit," I put her on the floor and ruffled her hair, "Let me finish all the paperwork and I'll meet you in your room."
She jumped up and down with a giant smile, "Yay!!!"
My daughter turned to leave but stopped aburtly in front of the interviews with Hinata on the screen.
"You didn't tell me Hinata Lee was on TV?!" she snapped at me. "You know she's my idol! You're such a traitor Daddy!"
"But Mag-"
"Traitor!" and she stormed out of my office before slamming my door. I blinked twice, this is why in the future, I want a son. Daughters are becoming too hard for me to handle. I'd hate to see her in her teenage years.
I turned back to the TV. Hinata bowed to the reporters before trying to leave through them. Security had to come out to clear the isle for her. Her interns followed close on her tail towards the cars. The reporters are not in any mood in giving up pursuit but the security guards were able to hold them back as Hinata told her interns what to do. She walked towards her car, a white pearl BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, started the engine and drove off.
The CNN reporter finally gave it back to his studio to finish up the report but I shut off the TV.
I haven't seen Hinata (besides TV) for eight years. I promised to win her back no matter what happened and yet here I am: a father, president of hospitals who can't even keep a promise to his lover. For the first few months or so, I tried everything to leave office and everything to get to her but it never worked.
I was too chicken to at least.
Then Sasuke visits and that's when everything goes downhill....
