Chapter 19: Hinata
One week later...
Naruto's POV
I love you so much
The sound of beeping slowly sounded in my ears.
So don't forget me
That voice!
The sound of a gunshot.
My eyes shoot open and I sit up, "Hinata!"
The familiar faces of my Konoha friends come into view around the room. Sakura and Sasuke looked at me with wide eyes. Sai and Shikamaru just came through the door. Temari, Tenten, Ino and Neji were camping on the floor when they heard my voice. Even Temari's brother, Gaara, was here. He was probably taking a nap on one of the chairs that he woke up at the sound of my voice.
What is going on here?
"You're awake!" They all said in unison, relief and happiness on their faces.
"Uh yeah I mean," I started.
Crushing hugs from all the girls in the room nearly stopped my circulation altogether. I reached up to pat their heads but something felt off.
Well, I couldn't really feel anything from my right hand.
The girls stood back for me to look at my bandaged fingers. It can't be, I'm pretty sure this arm came cleanly off when I stopped the -
"Hinata!" I panicked, "Where is she?! WHERE IS SHE?!"
"Naruto what are you -" I tore off all the needles attached to me. Grabbed my clothes lying in the bathroom and changed without thinking, tearing off my hospital gown before throwing my Broncos hoodie over my head.
Once I zipped my jeans I was out of the room faster than anybody could stop me. The guards outside my doors could only watch me as I ran down the hallways of my hospital to almost nowhere. The feet pounding behind me told me I was being chased down.
But I didn't care. My mind was swirling with worries that when I entered the emergency room, Hinata might not be there.
She might not be here anymore but I won't accept it. Hinata has to be alive, she must be alive! I won't accept any other answer then that she is okay and well.
I took the stairs down from the fifteenth floor all the way into the emergency room, by now the sounds of footsteps behind me some people gave up the chase.
I burst through the door of the emergency room to encounter a cleaning up scene with all the nurses. Panting I swiftly walked up to the nurse taking calls in the main table.
When his face saw who I was, he put the caller on hold and greeted me.
"President."
I looked around the room. The people cleaning up the stains on the floor, the family of patients saying thank yous over and over again to Dr. Hudson, and the interns giving each other high fives for a good job.
"What happened here?"
The nurse, an African-American in his early twenties answered, not meeting my eyes. "Two cars got sucked under a semi, sir."
I nodded, "Any news?"
"All is well sir," the nurse beamed.
I nodded at him and continued walking. Glancing out the doors, the news reporters of CNN and some other press media companies were talking to cameras. They have no idea what personal spacing is.
I didn't even notice I walked passed Sasuke until the jerk grabbed my bandage arm. Why the fuck can't I feel anything?
"That's an artificial arm," Sasuke replied, his eyes never leaving mines.
"I see," I ripped it from his arm and flexed it. It's pretty cool, but who came up with it?
Hinata's face flashed through my mind again as I reorganized my priorities.
"Wait, Naruto!"
I ignored them all as I headed towards her office. Through the glass door, I was able to make out a figure inside. As quickly as I could, I pushed the door open to utter disappointment.
Kiba was reading a book at her desk with a piece of beef jerky in his mouth.
"Dude! You're awake!" he exclaimed walking over to me.
Pushing my disappointment aside, I pulled him into a bro hug before pushing him back against the wall, "That sick plan of yours nearly got me killed!"
The man raised his hands in defeat, "I'm sorry! Would you put me down please?"
It was Shikamaru's turn to appear by his side. This was his fault, too. If anything happened to Hinata, I'm going to kill them both.
"Naruto you need to calm down," Shikamaru said as he pried my fingers from Kiba's collar.
"This is your damn fault, too! Why the hell couldn't you actually become a damn Harvard professor!" I snapped at him. "It would've been a hell of lot easier than working for the FBI!"
Shikamaru sighed, "Look, I'm sorry we had to drag Hinata into this but -"
"I'm going to kill you!" I landed a punch in my friend's face. Kiba hooked my arms back and pulled me back before I could go in for the kill.
I'll kill him, too!
"Naruto you seriously need to cool it!" Sakura shouted into the room.
"Cool what?!" I snapped again. "I have no idea how Hinata is right now and yet you all want me to calm down? Well I'm not calming the fuck down anytime soon!"
I knew I was causing all scene. Nurses and doctors were already curious to see why I was roaming around the emergency room in the first place. Now seeing me beating up an FBI agent and getting held down by another, this is a news story everybody is dying to see.
But I don't give a shit!
"WHERE THE HELL IS MY HINATA?!" I shouted through my tears.
I needed to know, I needed to know that I can still see her beautiful eyes, hear her cute giggles. Otherwise, I-I don't think I can live with myself if I figure out she's not...
I finally managed to free myself from Kiba's arms. But half way through, a little pop sounded, catching everybody's attention. I blinked through my tears at Kiba who was holding my artificial arm in complete surprise and shock.
"Oops," was all he managed.
While everybody was distracted by my missing hand in Kiba's I squeezed passed the crowd forming and ran in the opposite direction of the main ER; towards the hallway filled with offices along with the library.
I slowed down when I was sure nobody was following me and scanned each room thoroughly. Every single office was empty, not a single living organism in sight.
It wasn't until the intern library came into view did I see someone through the glass door. It was Hyo from that one KPOP band Ino belonged to. She caught sight of me and disappeared faster than I could call her only to appear in front of me seconds later.
How she do that?
"Prez, you're awake!" she exclaimed, a giant smile on her face.
"Yeah, well," I looked at her, still trying to register how she showed up so fast.
The idol's eyes traveled to my missing arm, "Huh? Did you lose your arm already?!"
"Oh, uh, I'm sorry," I said, slowly.
"And Hina worked so hard on it."
That stopped time for me. Hinata did what?
"What did she do?" I asked slowly. "Tell me, Hyo. Please tell me."
"Eh?" she blinked. "Ahhhh you don't know."
Grabbing my left hand, Hyo's face softened, "Why don't you see for yourself?"
She pulled me towards the glass door looking into the main desk of the library. There, were three other girls who were about to leave so they blocked my view into the library.
"Oh president," said the oldest one. "We're just leaving."
"Have fun," the other one uttered in English.
I watched as the three girls disappeared down the hallway, giggling to one another.
Gathering my breath, I pushed the door open.
My eyes fell upon a girl with long raven black hair, her head resting on the wooden table eyes closed as she soundly slept like a baby. Her doctor coat spotted with blood stains here and there. Nonetheless she was beautiful and so peaceful.
I fell to my knees right there, the tears glistening my eyes finally streamed down.
She was alive, she was okay.
The impact must've woken up the goddess because she lifted her head and looked around.
"Naruto-kun?" she asked, her voice drenched with sleep. "How are you feeling?"
Just hearing her voice...
I jumped up and pulled her into my arm right then and there. I needed to know she's real, that she's alive.
That my Hinata is still here with me.
"Hey," she giggled. "What's gotten into you, anyway?"
I hugged her tighter, "If this is a dream, don't wake me up."
Her shoulders shook again, "This isn't a dream, you idiot. It's real."
It's true, it's damn true. Hinata isn't dead, she's alive and well. I'm afraid to let go, though. If I do, then I would end up waking up from a dream.
I don't want that.
"Hey, look at me, Naruto-kun," Hinata murmured. "Let me see your eyes."
My arm never left her body, I only shifted my head so our foreheads were meeting.
Her soft hands reached up and wiped away all the tears streaming down my face.
"I'm okay," her pale eye sparkled. "Everything's okay."
I kissed her. I know this is real, Hinata's touch told me that much but I cannot believe how close I was to losing her. So close, to never seeing her, never feeling her lips fit perfectly with mines ever again.
How the hell did I survive eight years of my life without her, anyway?!
A knock at the door made me separate from her. Turning around, Kiba stood there leaning against the door holding my arm, "Hate to break this birds and bees reunion but Hinata, the idiot lost his arm already."
Hinata blinked, "How long has it been?"
"Ten minutes, I think," Kiba said.
"Yes," she smiled, triumphantly.
"What?" I looked at her, amused.
"Sasuke and I made a bet," she said. "I said you'd lose your arm within ten minutes. He said five. That's fifty bucks in my pocket."
