Chapter 11: Daisuke Let Go

Hinata's POV

The music wasn't so loud, there were just too many people. With my golden mask on, Sasuke and I weaved through the crowd.

I had asked Sasuke and Itachi's family if they did run into Naruto to not say anything about me being the doctor he blindly hired.

"When I'm ready, I'll face him," I had said.

The Uchihas respected that.

So Sasuke and I did the first thing anybody should do at a party, headed straight to the food bar. It's so nice to hang out with Sasuke again. He was willing to put the past eight years behind him and I will, too.

I can't complete the rest of my life without him in it, scolding me for stupid and vice versa.

Little hands touched my legs, nearly making me choke on my drink. I looked down and was surprised to see little Daisuke barely able to stand while holding onto my leg.

I bent down and picked the little boy up. He's a little fishy... hasn't smiled at me one yet he can't detached himself from me.

"You're odd, Daisuke you know that?" I murmured to him.

He didn't understand a single thing I said. So he threw his tiny arms around my neck and hugged me extremely tight.

Sasuke laughed, "He really likes you."

"I got that much, idiot now get him off me."

"No can do Bookworm," he smiled. "Once Daisuke's attached he'll never let go. Think of him like a little leech."

I sighed.

"Sasuke!"

I froze completely. My body shook violently, my blood was no longer flowing. Daisuke looked shocked as if he felt my panicked heartbeats breaking my chest open.

Daisuke suddenly slapped my masked face, "Tha kk."

I blinked as his soft baby hand rested on my nose. If I spoke language I'm gonna translate it into, it's okay.

Awww thank you Daisuke.

Sasuke quickly blocked my view with a, "Yo."

Some kind of bro hug happened as I turned my back to the them, trying to pretend I was a mother looking for food for my child.

"You actually made it, way to go," the visitor patted Sasuke's back.

I started admiring the rows and rows of turkey sandwiches along with a giant bowl of punch for those who didn't want the cherry and grape wine right next to the bowl.

I glanced at Sasuke's broad back as he moved to cover my view completely.

"Yeah if I didn't come, you'd take me out drinking until Kiriko comes and drags me out by the ear," Sasuke answered.

The visitor replied, with a smirk in his voice, "You're welcome for being your stress reliver."

I've never, ever thought about this moment once in all the years I didn't see him. He never cared enough to call so I always thought he was happier moving on with Valerie.

"Is Daisuke here? Mags really wants to see him," the visitor continued.

"Uhhhhh," Sasuke nearly panicked right then and there, "C-check with Kiriko. He might be with her."

"Alright," the visitor shrugged. "I'll let Magnolia know then."

My heart beat slowly returned to normal as the stranger starting walking away only to stop and turn around, "I'm gonna get a sandwich. You want some?"

Sasuke, the cool chilled guy, panicked, "I'm okay and you don't want any either!"

"Wha-"

Sasuke starting pushing him away, "Nope, no turkey sandwich for you! You got a whole stash of ramen in your office! Go eat one right now I'll even go with you!"

"Sas-"

"Let's go! No more words! Let's go!"

As the two boys walked away, I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding. If Sasuke keeps this up all night, Naruto won't be able to enjoy his party.

Which is kinda okay in my book.

Daisuke tried to reach with his baby hands for the sandwich. I glanced at the baby in midst of his struggle for food.

I wonder if Naruto did this with Magnolia when she was younger. Watching how cute she is, not being able to reach, and just loving the child as a parent. I've, of course, never had the feeling before because I'm still single and never thought of kids ever once. Okay, maybe when I was with Naruto, but the thought did come around like once.

"Hey, little Daisuke," a soft, silky voice caught both mines and the baby's attention. Only he was a lot more excited than I was when we recognize the newcomer.

Valerie...

He cooed and cried with delight at the woman. Who pinched his cheek, not noticing me at all.

"And you're not Kiriko," she said, looking around me. Her mask wasn't on so it was too easy to make her out under the disco lights. Her red tight dress was barely long enough to cover her thighs. Her hair in a tight bun and glimmering with hair clips everywhere.

I shook my head, "Nope just a friend of the Uchihas."

"Oh let me guess," she pondered and pondered. "Not Temari, I know that much. Can't be Sakura 'cause I just saw her over there. Ummmmmm."

I waited patiently for her to continue. She'll never guess who I really am plus I have a mask on, hiding my face so I could trick her no matter what.

"Hinata Lee," she said slowly, a winning smirk on her face. "Or shall I say, Hinata Hyuga."

I nearly openly gasped at her answer. How, how-

"My brother's been nuts about you since he got back from Korea," she said slowly. "Maybe way too crazy about you than a normal friend should."

I blinked, "Yeah, he's a good friend of mines."

"Have you ever," she paused, playing with the pile of paper plates as I handed Daisuke a sandwich.

"Have I ever what?"

"Consider Van as something more?" Valerie finished. "Because he makes it seem like he wants to move up a stage with you."

"What do you mean?" What does she mean by that?

She sighed, not frustrated or annoyed but more of sadly, "My brother really, really likes you. I can't judge because this is the first time I've ever spoken to you but based on what Naruto and Van, two of the guys I trust most in in the world might I add, make you seem like some goddess so we'll just have to to see who you really are."

Her eyes suddenly didn't look really, say, nice at that point. Why? Is she mad at me? Mad at me for loving Naruto when she used him only for her own personal gain while I actually love him? But at the same time, she didn't declare war or anything considering I caught the attention of both her brother and her baby's daddy.

I don't know what to make of this woman.

"So what's it like being the youngest yet best doctor/surgeon in the world?" And just like that her attitude took a different turn.

I looked at her, "What?"

She nudged me, "You know, the paparazzi constantly at your door, the screaming fans, the countless noble peace prizes. You're like a celebrity with a brain!"

"I never got a noble peace prize and I don't think I will anytime soon."

"Oh no honey," Valerie grabbed my shoulders, "It's in the near future I can see it."

Just who is this woman?

"Sasuke! I don't want a ramen cup!" The sudden voice returned, turning our attention towards the way Sasuke dragged my ex out. "I want a damn turkey sandwich and you ain't stopping me."

Valerie laughed, "I don't know if I can live to see the time where those two are not arguing."

I disregarded the comment completely. I set Daisuke down and shooed him towards Valerie but the kid is in love with my leg! Seriously if I shook it, he wouldn't budge!

"Daisuke, I have to run," I softly patted the child's head. "Come on, buddy."

"I've never seen Daisuke like someone like that before," Valerie admitted. "What did you feed him?"

"I only let him lean on me because the limo kept making sharp turns," urgency surged through my veins as the laughter got closer.

I glanced up at Sasuke who casted a 'Hurry your ass up' look. Sighing heavily, I lifted the baby into my arms, "It was nice talking to you Valerie but I have to run. I'll see you later."

She narrowed her eyes at me, "Where are you going?"

"Uhhhhh bathroom?"

The twin rolled her eyes, "More like hiding from a certain CEO."

"I'm not hiding," I glanced at Daisuke. "He needs his diaper changed."

"Funny because the last time I babysat Daichi, he was already potty trained."

Shoot, "Well, Itachi is the father here so you never know how lazy he can get and stick a diaper on his son when he doesn't want to take the kid to the bathroom."

Valerie grabbed my arm with her gloved hand, "Just stay put, Hinata. You have a mask on anyway. The bimbo wouldn't recognize you. You're going to have to face him sooner or later. You do work for him now. You're bound to run into him eventually. If you were to meet him now, then he'll just dismiss you as a normal doctor and not come back looking for you everyday."

Okay, okay this is it. This is it, Hinata. Time to brave the toughest challenge you will ever face and this pep talk should be helping but instead my worries are starting to spill over.

She grabbed Daisuke and attached him to my leg again before looping arms with me.

"Play it cool and he'll never know," she murmured to my ear.

"What are you-"

"Hey Naruto! I want you to meet Dr. Lee, the newest addition to the Uzumaki Hospital family and my newest best friend."
