62.) Ground Zero

I'm glad that I listened to Shikamaru when he suggested that we follow Namikaze after Hinata got done with her dance. I don't even want to imagine what would have happened if I hadn't walked in when I did.

I watch as Sakura winds back and her fist hits Hinata's face with a sickening crack. Pure rage over takes me as I see Hinata stumble and then crumble to her knees.

"What the hell is going on?!" I roar at Sakura. I can tell she is startled by my being here, and when her eyes meet mine I can see the fear in them. She better be fucking afraid, very afraid. I can feel the seam between being in control and losing control start to waver.

I stride quickly over and put myself between Sakura and Hinata. My eyes never leaving Sakura's. I can see her fear being taken over with pain, and the only other time I have ever seen that look in her eyes was when she broke up with Sasuke. Somehow though this look is....more.

She opens her mouth like she is going to say something but nothing comes out. It's probably better that way, I don't think I could listen to her voice without completely losing grip on my self-control. "I think you need to leave." I growl at her harshly.

Sakura turns and runs from the room, leaving the crowd that has been watching everything unfold deathly silent. Namikaze is standing like a statue in an open practice room doorway. Useless as always. "Will someone please go after her?" I mutter. I see the guy from Hinata and Sakura's dance group cut away from the crowd. Better him than me.

I turn around and drop down on one knee. Hinata is sitting there her face buried in her hands. "Hina..." I say softly tucking a lose strand of hair behind her ear. "Show me your face." I command gently.

Hinata slowly looks up at me and my heart constricts as I see the newly forming bruise on her face. I'm numb with the rage that courses through me. I can't believe that Sakura would ever hit Hinata like that. What the hell happened to make her want to hit her best friend? I give Hinata a weak smile. "Could be worse. We should probably go get it looked at though." I say quietly.

She nods. I pull out my cell phone and punch in Hana's number. "Hey dipshit how did the recital go?" She asks nonchalantly.

"Can you come pick me and Hinata up and take us to the ER?" I ask quietly.

There is a pause on the other line. "I'll be right there." She says quickly before the line goes dead.

I turn back to Hinata. "Can you stand?" I ask quietly. I don't want to make a bigger scene out of this than it already is.

When Hinata nods in response I gently take her hand and elbow and slowly stand with her. "Were going to go meet Hana out front, okay?" I tell her as we start to leave the room, the crowd parting for us.

We make it to the front of the school and that's when I see Hana's car parked on the curb. Slowly Hinata and I walk over to the car. My mind is still mulling over what I saw. I just don't understand what happened and how it escaladed so far.

"What the fuck happened?!" Hana cries when we get closer to the car. I assume she has seen Hinata's face, which by the looks of it is starting to swell.

"No idea to be honest." I grumble opening the car door for Hinata and then climbing in the front with Hana. "Hinata what happened?" I ask turning around in my seat to look at her.

Tears start to roll down her cheeks. "I lost my best friend." She whispers.
