47.) Movie Night
I'm standing right inside my bedroom staring around my room. I have to be over at Kiba's in an hour, which means I need to pack up what I want to bring with me and get going in thirty minuets. I sigh. I already know that Hinata is going to be there, and after a much heated texting war I managed to convince Kiba to let Ino come too. Maybe that's why I'm still nervous. I know that's not true though, its not nerves that have my stomach in knots it's my excitement. I haven't really gotten to hang out with Kiba much and whether I like it or not it feels like a first date.
I decide that it will just be easier if I wear comfy clothes over rather than bring pajamas. I search my draws for my favorite gray stretchy sweatpants. I quickly change into them and search for a comfortable tank top, settling on my pink and blue tie dye one. I grab my black zip up hoody and look at myself in the mirror. Yea I can sleep in this I decide.
I wander down stairs and into the kitchen where my mother is cooking. When I told her about movie night yesterday she insisted on cooking something for us. Kiba said the more food the better since Choji would be coming too, so I accepted her offer. She finishes packaging the food up and puts it in a cloth bag for me.
"Here you go sweet heart." She says with a kind smile as she hands me the bag full of freshly prepared food. "Will you text your father when you get there so we know you got there okay?" She asks.
I nod and smile taking the food. "Of course." I reply. I really think she's out done herself with the food. Hinata and I don't eat much so hopefully the boys are hungry. I hug my mother and kiss her cheek. "Thank you for the food."
My mother smiles warmly at me. "Any time. I'm just thankful you are back to your old self. I missed my daughter." She says her eyes reflecting the happiness in her words.
"Me too mom." I say with a smile before leaving to the entry way to slip my shoes and coat on.
The walk takes less time than I thought so I decide to walk through the park across the street from my destination. The air is cool and crisp under the canopy of bare trees coated with snow. I take a deep cleansing breathe. I love walks in the snow, and I secretly hope that it starts to snow.
The last two months have been the easiest, though if I could change one thing it would be for Naruto to snap out of where ever he is. He hasn't spoken really since him and Kiba fought. I'm really worried about him, but he's too mad at me to hear me, let alone hold a conversation with me. I don't know how to fix it, and it hurts that I'm at such a loss.
A small shrine comes into view and I freeze, staring at it. This must have been where Kiba found me that day. I slowly approach it and sit down on the snow covered stone with a sigh. It seems like so long ago I was crying my heart out on the stone here. My heart aches as the memory surfaces and my eyes start to sting. Even after so many months the memories are still painful.
Good job Sakura, are you really going to cry? I take a deep breath and stand. I can do this, that was so long ago now and I have moved on. I don't want anything ruining what promises to be a great night and I have to be honest I'm excited to spend more time with Kiba. Yea we just spent all of winter break together but I just can't seem to get enough of him. So this time no tears or mood swings while I'm at his house, just smiles and laughs like winter break.
Without giving the shrine or the memories a second thought I get up and walk back along the path out of the park. I see Kiba's house across the street and quickly cross over. I knock tentatively on the door, my nerves making my stomach feel like it's on a bumpy back road. Get it together Sakura, it's just movie night, I tell myself.
Kiba opens the door and grins down at me. "You're early." He teases me standing back and motioning for me to come inside.
His home is exactly how I remember it. The soft green carpet covering the floor and cream color walls with a ceiling high bookshelf full of movies. Somehow the sight of the room comforts me rather than bringing back the bad memories of my first night there. I smile as I slip my shoes off. "I thought it would take longer." I admit.
Kiba laughs loudly. "Well now you know for future reference." He says with a wink, walking into the kitchen. "So what did your mom send with you?" He asks.
I follow him into the kitchen and set the bag on the dining room table. The kitchen is about half the size of the living room with light gray sandstone counters and dark wooden cabinets lining two of the walls. I can see that the walls were painted a dark shade of red. It has the same cozy feeling that the living room has. "I have no idea to be honest, but she sent a lot." I said with an embarrassed smile.
Kiba laughed again. "No worries." He says as he unloads my bag and starts placing them in the fridge. "Hinata, Shikamaru, and Choji should be here in about fifteen minutes. Not sure when the blonde brat will be there though." He throws over his shoulder at me.
I give Kiba a disaproving look that he can't see. "Please try to be nice to her when she gets here." I scold him. I had to fight to get Ino an invitation and I would like for everyone to get along. I don't want Kiba to be in a bad mood ether. I have never had the opportunity to hang out with him and his friends outside of school and I have a sneaking suspicion that I may see a side of Kiba that I have yet to see, something that I find myself craving.
Kiba sighs. "I can't promise anything but if it's that important to you I will try extra hard." He says opening the fridge and giving me a warm reassuring smile that causes my stomach to warm and flip.
I bite my lower lip as I try to enjoy the feeling without letting him know how he has just made me feel. "Thank you." I say quietly with a small smile.
"Choji always brings snacks, and Hinata's mom always sends something. Shikamaru is just too lazy, half the time I think he won't show." Kiba continues as he shuts the fridge and looks over at me in the doorway not noticing anything.
I smile and offer a laugh, it does sound like Shikamaru. "What a surprise." I say lacing my voice with as much sarcasm and fake shock as possible.
Kiba rolls his eyes at me. "Good to see you are in a good mood. Going to have to be for what I have planned for tonight." He says with that wolfish smile of his as a knock sounds through the house. I watch as Kiba strolls over and lets Hinata in, picking her up off the ground in a huge hug.
"Kiba!" Hinata squeals through laughter before he sets her back down. Her cheeks flushed with laughter. She playfully pushes Kiba. "Jerk." She says. Only then does Ino enter the house slowly and a little awkwardly.
Kiba rolls his eyes at her and dramatically stumbles back in response to her shove, practically ignoring Ino. "Jeeze Hina no need to be so mean." He grins.
I watch from the side lines as Hinata glares at Kiba and makes a move to smack him. In all the years that Hinata and I have been friends I have never seen her act so playful. It's nice to see that she can relax some and I feel that Kiba's house may have some kind off effect on those who enter. Like entering a universe where we are willingly able to be ourselves.
"Oh hey Sakura." Hinata says finally coming over to me and giving me a wholesome smile.
I can't help but smile and raise my eyebrow questionably. "Hina eh?" I tease her with a laugh. This is the first time that I have heard Kiba call her that and I wonder briefly if its a childhood nickname or something.
Hinata shrugs and smiles. "I tried to get him to stop calling me that but he won't." She sighs heavily, displaying a rare pout on her face.
"Damn straight!" Kiba chimes coming over. He rests his arm on my shoulder. "I think it suits her don't you Ino?" He asks casting a side long glace at me before looking over at Ino who is still standing awkwardly by the door.
I can't help the smile that comes on my face as I look over at Kiba. I didn't think that he would listen to my request to be nice but here he is including her in our conversation, and if I could manage to hide the admiration that I am feeling I don't think I would. Ino brings a finger to her chin. "Hmmm you know I can see it." She says with a laugh and a smile. I can tell by the look in her eyes that she understands the look on my face but for some reason doesn't comment on it.
Hinata stairs at Ino open mouthed. "That's not fair you guys!" She whines. "I thought you were on my team?"
Kiba and I laugh in unison. "Sorry Hina its permanent now." He finalizes with one of his wolfish grins.
Before the laughter subsides at Hinata's expence there is a knock on the doorframe. "What's so funny?" The boared drawl of Shikamaru sounds.
I laugh and lean into Kiba slightly wanting to be closer to the warmth that I feel radiating off of him. "You had to be here trust me." I giggle.
"Well if I hadn't had to go and pick Shikamaru up I wouldn't have missed it." Choji grumbles slipping off his shoes and heaving in two oversized bags into the kitchen.
I see Shikamaru roll his eyes at Choji's back. "I was getting there." He says lazily slipping his shoes off and following Choji into the kitchen, the rest of us following them in.
Choji laughs loudly. "I always have to drag you here for movie night." He says as he dumps the contents of his bags on the table. Kiba wasn't kidding when he said that Choji would bring snacks.
"Wow, do you think you brought enough food?" Ino asks in an astounded tone. Me and Hinata cast her a warning look, hoping that she understands that where she is going with her comment is off limits. Choji is a sweetheart but criticize his weight and he turns mean quickly.
Shikamaru sighs and shoves his hands into his sweat pants pockets and leans against the counter. "If it was a real movie night you wouldn't have to force me. Kiba's movie nights are a pain." He complains.
Kiba rolls his eyes at Shikamaru. "Hey now, no one said that you had to come you know." He says a little too loudly.
Suddenly I remember I have to text my father that I got here. I pull out my phone and type up a quick text to him.
-Got here safe about 20 min ago. Here with Hinata, Ino, Kiba, Choji, and Shikamaru. He thanks mom for the food. Love you both.-
I hit send right before my phone is snatched from me. I look up to see Kiba has grabbed it. I raise my eyebrow at him and try to grab it back.
"Hey now, I'm just going to add a contact photo." He says with a laugh.
I watch as he opens my contact list and selects his contact before pulling me close to him. "Say cheese." He says as he snaps a picture of us, before grinning and then showing me the photo.
I look down at the photo of us and I can't help but smile at how ridiculous we both look. He looks fine, well more than fine, his normal ruggedly handsome self, but I'm looking over at him like he's crazy, and for good reason. He caught me off guard with pulling me in towards him. "Awe thanks, I will treasure this photo for a long time to come." I tell him in a semi sarcastic tone and trying to snatch my phone back.
He holds it above my head and shakes his head. "House rule number one tonight is no cell phone." He declares loudly so that everyone hears.
"Great, here we go. Thanks Choji for dragging me along." Shikamaru grumbles as he fishes his cell phone out of his pocket.
I watch as Hinata and Choji willingly hand their cell phones over to Kiba, while Ino stares at them in shock. "You have to be kidding me?!" She asks in shock.
Shikamaru chuckles. "They told you this was movie night didn't they." He smirks at Ino.
"Nara, don't test me. I will crush you." Ino says darkly to Shikamaru. "There is no way I am handing my cell phone over to him. He will go through my phone." Ino complains.
Choji looks at Ino then Kiba wide eyed. "OH no Kiba did you really?" He asks horrified.
Kiba rolls his eyes at Ino. "Oh please. They go in a basket on top of the fridge. Why would I go through your phone anyway? Nothing that interests me there." Kiba retorts.
Hinata gives Ino a warm smile. "It's true, no one even touches a phone until it's time to go home." She explains to Ino.
I thought tonight was going to be fun but now it has taken an interesting turn as I watch Ino reluctantly hand her cell phone over. Suddenly I'm excited to see what this 'movie night' is all about. Kiba grins mischievously. "Second house rule is treat Sakura and Ino like a member of the group."
Shikamaru laughs loudly. "Guess that's one way to scare her off Kiba." He says going over to a door on the bare kitchen wall and opening it reveling a staircase leading down.
One by one the boys shuffle down the stairs arguing and pushing each other, leaving me, Ino, and Hinata alone in the kitchen. Ino looks over at me and Hinata wide eyed. "Why didn't you warn me what I was walking into?" She asks in a high pitched voice.
Hinata smiles and chuckles. "It's really fun. And now that you are here you can't not come. I'm glad I'm not the only girl here now." She admits as she goes to the staircase. "Come on you will see."
I sigh and shake my head. "This is going to be an interesting night isn't it?" I ask with a chuckle. While Ino isn't at all excited about how the night has started out and the direction in which it is going I am the opposite. I love seeing Kiba so enthused and in return it makes me enthused as well.
Hinata laughs lightly. "You could say that." She smiles at both me and Ino before heading after the boys down into what I am assuming is the basement.
I roll my eyes and follow her down into what looks to be a wreck room, Ino trailing behind me. Right off the bat an air hockey table comes into view and I stand at the base of the stairs taking in the whole place.
On the far back wall is a floor to ceiling bookshelf that covers the whole wall. A large leather couch sits up against one wall and a large flat screen across from it on the other. I can see the two latest gaming systems set up under the television along with several others. There is a large white board leaning up against a wall close to the air hockey table.
Wow, who would have thought this is what Kiba had in his basement. I follow everyone over to the leather couch and watch as Kiba grabs the white board and joins us. He jots something down on it and leans it up against the bookshelf.
House rule one- no cell phone
House rule two- treat Sakura and Ino like one of us
"So since you two are new to how movie night goes I'll explain." Kiba says as he pops the top on and off of the dry erase marker. "So guys, what should they know?" He asks the other three on the couch with me.
Hinata raises her hand. "There are two house rules, and then we each can make two of our own." She says looking over at me. I nod as I think it over. Okay that's not too hard and could possibly be entertaining.
"Right. So these are the house rules for tonight." Kiba points at the white board. "What else?" he asks them again.
I gaze expectantly at the others for their response. Choji raises his hand. "We don't actual watch any movies."
Ino laughs bitterly. "I sort of got that from Shikamaru's comment earlier." She mutters.
Kiba nods in agreement. "Normally not till the end of the night. So I guess everyone pick your rules for tonight." Kiba says popping the top off his marker. "I'm going to stick with my normal rule, Shikamaru sorry man but no complaining." He laughs as he writes it down on the board.
Shikamaru laughs and nods. "Saw that coming. I will rebuttal with no cursing then." He says with a smirk.
Kiba scrunches his face. "Well played dude." He says and writes it down and casts an expectant glance at us.
Hinata shoots her hand up in the air. "Oh I know. How about my rule be every time you break a rule you have to do the punishment of the rule maker's choice?"
All the boys gasp in unison. "Ohhhh." Kiba nods and jots it down. "Great rule as always Hina, this will be interesting." He says with a grin.
I raise my hand. "I have a question. So these rules are anything?" I ask looking at them all.
Shikamaru nods. "Pretty much, except you can't create a rule that contradicts another. For example you can't make a rule that says don't pick on you because house rule is to treat you like one of us." He explains.
I nod slowly and then smile. "Okay how about if you would normally hesitate to do something you have to do it?" I say with a raised eyebrow. I'm here to have fun so let's make this a good time and God knows that me, Ino, and Hinata can have some shy moments. I also want to make it impossible for Ino not to participate.
"Good one Sakura!" Choji says putting up his hand for what I'm assuming is a high five. I slap his hand with mine with a smile.
"Yea that one is a pretty good one." Shikamaru says with a nod. I watch as Kiba writes it down on the board.
We continue to discuss rules for the next ten minutes and soon there are twelve rules written down on the whiteboard.
House rule one- NO CELL
House rule two- treat Sakura like one of us
KIBA
One- no complaining
Two- no glaring
CHOJI
One- if you go up for food you must bring Choji a snack
Two- any time Shikamaru sighs he has to run up and down the stairs five times
SHIKAMARU
One- No cursing
Two- No eye rolling.
HINA
One- If you break a rule you must do the punishment chosen by the rule maker
Two- You have to cheer for each other during any activity.
SAKURA
One- If you would hesitate to do it you HAVE to do it.
Two- everyone must participate in all activities
INO
One- No sighing in general
Two- Snorting while laughing
"Well now that we have those taken care of we're playing Just Dance four." Kiba says standing and walking over to the wall to hang up the newly created rules.
I almost groan but remember that Kiba has a rule that says no complaining. That doesn't stop Choji from saying something.
"Oh come on not this crazy game Kiba, we play this every movie night." He groans frowning.
Ino casts Kiba a startled look. "You seriously play this game?" She asks.
Kiba laughs loudly. "Hey its fun and Hana plays it more than I do, and Choji you just complained so since Hina has her rule I get to make you do something." Kiba declares with a wolfish grin. "I think I will just start out with making you go up and bringing us all drinks."
Choji sighs and gets to his feet. "What does everyone want?" He asks glancing at everyone expectantly.
Everyone gives him their request and Choji trucks up the stairs to the kitchen to carry out his punishment for complaining.
Kiba turns back to us and grins. "Following house rule two I say Sakura goes first." Kiba declares.
I have never played this game before in my life so I really don't want to be the first to go first, so naturally I am relieved when Hinata speaks up.
"Kiba that's not fair, I don't think she's ever played this game. Can I go first instead?" She asks standing.
Kiba nods and I'm relieved that he's okay with Hinata's proposal. "Okay, that seems fair." He says turning on the system and putting the disk in before taking the remote and sitting down on the couch next to me.
Hinata smiles at me and starts to stretch her arms and then legs. "Okay I'm ready." She says with another smile at Kiba. Choji comes sauntering back down the stairs and hands everyone what they asked for.
Even though I know that I'm supposed to dance next and I can't refuse or complain about it I'm already liking the direction the night is going. Hinata was right, giving the guys a chance was the best thing I could have done. The sound of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae blasts through the speakers and the guys cheer as Hinata starts her turn.
