Chapter 2: The Lazy Reaper
~Kokichi's POV~
I was walking the streets with an annoyed expression on my face. Other people gave me weird looks but avoided my glare. I stopped suddenly before turning around and looking above me. "Will you stop following me!" I shouted at the floating Grim Reaper above me. She shot me one of her lazy smiles. "Well I mean I can, but I don't want to." She said. "Why do you insist on following me?" I questioned. "Because you're interesting." She responded. "How am I interesting to a Reaper?" I asked. She held up one finger. "Well one, you can see me when I'm not trying to be visible. Two, you're an ultimate student. And three you aren't scared about the fact that you literally have the personification of death following you around. You're just mildly annoyed." She listed, now holding up three fingers. I just turned around and tried to ignore her. She continued floating above me as I continued walking. "Hey kid. Care to make a deal?" She questioned suddenly. "Does this deal involve you leaving?" I shot back. "Nope. But I'd recommend listening either way. When you hear the voice of death you'd best listen." She said in a creepy tone. I looked back up at her to see that lazy smile of hers. "Well?" She questioned. I sighed before walking into an alley way. She floated in behind me. I leaned on the wall and looked up at her. "I'll hear you out. But no promises." I said. Her lazy smile turned into a lazy smirk. Most wouldn't notice the difference. But I did. She held up a finger. "I want you to be my contractor. To do that I have to make some form of deal with you. Sooo...um. Sorry this is my first time doing one of these things. Basically you let me form a contract with you, I'll grant you one wish. Simple as that." She said. I raised an eyebrow. "And what are the terms of the contract?" I questioned. "Basically I'll serve you until you die." She said dismissively. "And what do you get out of it?" I questioned slightly confused. "Look kid." She said. "Are you really questioning what I get out of this when I'm offering you, not only my services, but also one free wish. As a reaper I can do anything. Any wish you desire. Money. Fame. As long as it's in the realm of reality I can grant it. Not only that but having the power of death at your beck and call? I'd say this is a pretty sweet deal." She said, moving her hand in a circular gesture as she was talking. She stuck her hand out to me as (F/C) colored flames erupted around it. "Well? What do ya' say kid?" She questioned. I thought for a minute, still confused. Why is she so desperate for this? What does she get out of it? "Tick tock kid." She said. "Will that hurt if I shake your hand?" I questioned, eyeing the (F/C) fire that danced on her skin without burning her. "Nope." She answered simply. I grabbed her hand as the flames consumed my hand along with hers. "Deal!" I stated firmly. Her smirk grew and for once I saw a flash of excitement in her typically emotionless (E/C) eyes.
I took the time to actually feel her flames. They weren't hot, not burning. They were warm. Warm, and oddly comforting. "So kid. What's your wish?" She questioned. I hummed a little as many thoughts clouded my mind. "I'll...decide later." I said. She titled her head to the side a little, smirk reverting back into her lazy smile. "Whatever. I can tell you have lots of ideas to sort through." She said. A glowing (F/C) circle appeared underneath us and my world began to spin. "Wh-What's going on!?" I shouted. "Don't worry. It'll all be over by the time you wake up." She said in a calm voice. "Until then, try not to think to darkly of me." She said, winking at me. I slowly began to lose consciousness. But I never hit the ground. Something warm caught me before I faded into blackness.
~Time Skip~
My eyes slowly opened, and my body ached. I sat up and yawned. I looked around. Nothing. I was in my room. "Ugh. What on Earth? Heh. What a weird dream." I mumbled. I threw my covers off and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. My feet hit the cold ground and I finally pulled myself out of bed. I got dressed before walking out of my room into the main apartment. That's when I saw her. That d*mn reaper was standing in the main room seeming to be looking for something. What was weirder was the she didn't even have on her reaper robe. She was wearing human clothing. She was wearing a pair of blue genes and a dark purple v-neck underneath a furred coat. The coat was black with purple fur on the hood, the end of the sleeves, and the ends of the coat itself. The coat looked a little large, it hung all the way down to her knees, yet the sleeves didn't hang over her hands. She was still barefoot though. No socks on either. "So it wasn't a dream." I mumbled. She finally noticed me, smiling lazily like always. "Good morning Kokichi. Took you long enough to wake up." She said. "Morning?" I questioned. "You were out for two days. For a second I thought you had entered a death like sleep." She said. "Two days!?" I shouted. Her eyes flickered with amusement. "Yep." She said simply. I quickly rushed back inside my room with her following me and picked up my phone. The guys had been blowing up my phone with calls and messages. "Ah, s*it." I cursed. She peered over my shoulder. "Ah. Looks like someone has been missed." She commented. "NO S*IT SHERLOCK!" I shouted. She snickered. I rolled my eyes. Now I know what it's like for other people to deal with me. I thought. "Is this typically how you act around other people?" She questioned. "Riiiiiight, you can read my thoughts." I said. "You might want to give them a call. They probably think you died or got kidnapped." She said. "I BASICALLY WAS KIDNAPPED! YOU KNOCKED ME OUT!" I shouted shooting her a glare over my shoulder. She floated on her back, shrugged with a closed eye lazy smile. "It wasn't me that knocked you out. It was the force of a contract being formed. It drained your body's energy. Don't feel left out though. After I had caught you from falling and teleporting us back here I collapsed as well. Not out of laziness for once though." She said. She cracked open an eye. "This is pretty exciting though. When I woke up I was in pain, a lot of pain. And I looked like this. I still had all my powers and was able to summon my scythe and whatnot. But my powers have been limited somewhat. I can't transform into my skeleton form. I'm stuck looking human. And when I went out yesterday I found out I was visible to all humans now." She explained. I raised an eyebrow. "Can you still turn yourself invisible?" I questioned. She shrugged, finally standing on the ground again. "I don't know. I can't tell because even when I'm invisible I can still see myself. In a mirror or otherwise." She said. Lazy smile ever present. I sweat-dropped. "Do you ever...Not smile?" I questioned. She chuckled. "What's the point in a world with no joy? So many humans are so morbid and depressed these days. I think it helps brighten things up a little." She said. "That's weird coming from a Grim Reaper of all things." I said with a sigh. Sitting down on my bed. What am I going to do? I thought. "Well maybe you can start with helping me get used to this whole human thing. It's been years since I've last been human." She said floating in front of me. "What do you mean 'since I've last been human'? Does that imply you've been human before?" I questioned. A shadow covered her eyes as she continued smiling. "Let's....let's not talk about that." She said. "YOU WERE, WEREN'T YOU!" I shouted, eyes sparkling at the realization. She sighed a little before floating over my head and laying down behind me. "Yeah. I was human once. And I barely remember anything from back then. I can only remember....a few things, here and there. Memories come back randomly. The last memory I have of being human...was dying." She said. My excited expression fell. "Dying? You mean..." I trailed off. "Yeah. I became a reaper after I was killed." She said. "K-killed!? You were murdered!?" I questioned in shock. A look of shock crossed her face as her smile fell for a split second. "I guess I was. I just now remembered. Yeah. I was murdered. Stabbed in the back, literally. Something about spite. Stabbed in the back by someone I thought I could trust. I don't remember who. And that was like 500 years ago." She said dismissively.
I was silent. Yet another murder I've learned about in the past two years. That makes around 17 now. I thought. She raised an eyebrow at me, turning her head to look at me. "17 murders?" She questioned. "I really need to stop forgetting that you can read my mind." I growled. "I won't pry." She said, closing her eyes. "You...You won't?" I questioned. "If you don't feel like talking about it then you don't feel like talking about it. Besides not like I actually care." She said, lazy smile still in place. I blinked a few times as she closed her eyes. "Well Imma get some shut eye." She said. "One more thing...If you were human does that mean you have a name?" I questioned. Her eyes opened again as a monotone expression crossed her face, lazy smile gone. "My...name?" She said in a questioning tone. "My...name." She said, a little more confidently. "Its...one of the few things I do remember. The one thing I can remember clearly and with certainty." She said. "My name. The only thing I still posses from my time as a human besides my appearance." She said. Her smile returned as her eyes drifted shut again. "My name, is (Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N)." She said, confidence in her tone. "(Y/N) huh? That's a good name. Well then. I'm Kokichi Oma. You may already know my name, but I feel it appropriate I officially introduce myself." I said, smiling at her.
Kokichi: That's how I came to be the contractor to the lazy reaper known as (Y/N). But being contracted to a reaper was no walk in the park. Especially with one as difficult as (Y/N).
(Y/N): HEY!
Kokichi: Oh quiet you know it's true.
(Y/N): Whatever. Doesn't mean you need to point it out. *pouts*
Kokichi: Wait...I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT D*MN CONTRACT DID! AND HOW AM I GOING TO EXPLAIN THIS TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF D.I.C.E!?
(Y/N): Hey what's that mark on your shoulder?
Kokichi: WHAT'S THIS MARK ON MY SHOULDER!?
Both: Find out next time in Chapter 3: Death And Her Contractor!
Kokichi (panicking): SERIOUSLY HOW DO I EXPLAIN THIS TO THE OTHERS!?
(Y/N): *chuckles*
Kokichi: SHUT UP!!!!
